Currant Customer Reviews

A classic combination. Smooth, deeply fruity currant flavor (similar to raisin) with bright Ceylon tea.

I purchased this tea with the intention of using it to make a custom blend of Prince of Wales tea. It's absolutely wonderful for this! However, I had a deja vu experience after trying it. It's been over 30 years since I've had a good currant black tea. One of my favorite teas in Germany was Johannesbeeren tea and I've never been able to find a comparable one until now. I'm very happy!

Strong currant flavor, really tasty!!! Loved the crispiness

We really like this tea, you can really taste the juicy currant flavor and the tea itself is great, would recommend this to anyone who like currants

Smooth and flavorful. I sometimes mix with unflavored black teas to give them some flavor. Long time favorite of mine.

★★★★☆

A very floral and fruity black tea that is delicious both warm or iced! Absolutely will be buying again!

How have I not reviewed CURRANT yet?! Currant tea is staple in my stash and in many others of the CommuniTEA Tribe! So smooth & Berryrific!

I'm afraid I'm just not a fan of this one. The currant flavor seemed to make the black tea even more astringent. I tried it with some half and half, hoping it would tone it down, but nope. Not my cup of tea.

★★★★☆

This has a slightly bitter flavor with a hint of raspberry. I should have read the reviews, I think it would be better brewed at a lower temperature.

★★★☆☆

Smelled fruity but mainly of raspberry. There was a bit of sourness from the raspberries and astringency from the tea which paired well. This is not my favorite fruit flavor in black teas, but it isnt bad. I can't necessarily pick out current from the raspberry.

★★★★☆

This has a great smell from the drop, hot it gave good berriness, and the bite/acidity of the black came forward as it cooled.

★★★★★

Lovely tea. We're in agreement on this one. Raspberry leaves are tasty and healthy in tea. The current flavor is accurate to the berries. The tea base (Ceylon?) is strong and balanced. Very nice cup, no additions used.

This is a very tangy and fruity tea. I am not personally an avid enjoyer of the fruity teas, but this one wasnt bad!

★★★☆☆

Hot or cold I unfortunately wasn't impressed. It was rather bland

★★★★★

This is definitely a new favorite for me. Love how the Ceylon base doesn't take over this one and it didn't take a ton of spices to keep it from happening. This one while still very hot was very juicy, jammy, and hit notes if a sort of tasty grape jelly with an added tartness. On the cool down it sort of reminded me more of a berry subtle fruitiness and some of the Ceylon astringency came forward increasingly so the more it cooled. Looking forward to trying this one with different additives and iced as well even though I think it really works straight up and hot. 212° 3 min

The currant tea had a nice berry aroma, perfect Ceylon taste. I did experience a slight bitterness, but I steeped it longer than I should have. Nice warm black tea flavor.

CommuniTEA sample: 3 min @ 195 F. I am not sure how I feel about this blend! The currant flavor reminds me a lot of some of my favorite black tea, having some notes that overlap with Darjeeling and Fujian unflavored black teas. I really like that, and for the most part, it smells and tastes relatively unflavored, in a really good way! There's a hint of the raspberry leaves in there, they add some fruity sweetness to the aroma, but they also add some bitterness to the blend. I did find that the Ceylon was still bitter and astringent, and the raspberry leaves did not help. It didn't really taste like a typical Ceylon, which was nice, but it still had that dry mouth feel afterwards.

I really liked this tea. The black tea was nicely balanced with the tart and tangy currant flavor (and also reminded me a bit of raspberries).

This is a good afternoon tea. The black tea isn’t too overwhelming and the currant flavor adds a slight tartness.

I usually love currant flavored things but this isn't quite doing it for me.

Good black tea. I had some trouble with the tea burning when following the packet instructions. Steeped for less time at a lower temp and it turns out well. A nice replacement to coffee in the mornings

Delightful. A little sweet. Doesn't need much sugar.

Wow, loving this more than anticipated. Enjoying both hot and iced. This is a true ode to summer: jammy gem-y berry, sitting in a meadow under the shade of the forest's edge.

I LOVE black currants and even add their leaves to my black tea blends. Finding this tea on Adagio was great – it has very smooth and pleasant flavor, and a nice sniff of black currant. When I want to diversify my usual afternoon tea, I use this one. It tastes good hot with milk and sugar or iced.

Love this iced but it's also really nice warm with a bit of cream. Very mellow current flavor with a rich mouth feel.

★★★★☆

I grew up drinking currant tea, so it s not at all a new flavor to me, but this one seemed a little overwhelming in fruit-to-black-tea ratio, and had a raisin note that just wasn t my favorite. It s still a good tea, I think I m just comparing it too much to other black currant teas I ve had and liked better.

I am buying this again. I add a tsp of sugar to a 10oz cup and its a nice flavor.

This is a tale of two teas. You smell the currant in the unbrewed tea but you mostly taste the raspberry once it is brewed. The currant flavor is subtle; it's not good or bad; it's just there. The raspberry flavor is subtle enough that it doesn't taste like one of the more fruity berry teas; it was pleasant. Honestly, I debated giving this four stars because I think it could be a go-to everyday tea for someone, but for me its more of an occasional alternative to my everyday tea.

LOVE this tea. One of my favorite teas before was tea Forté black currant and I love this one more. With or without milk it’s great and smells divine

This is a good one, and it would be better if it came in decaf. I like to drink tea in the evening and I don't want the caffeine.

★★★★★

This tea is absolutely delicious. I drink them all iced, and this is the perfect summery flavor combination between the currant and the raspberry. I brew my tea in the fridge overnight for 9 hours, and then add some sugar.

★★★★☆

I have always enjoyed currant flavored black tea, and this one is nice, but its flavor is a bit thin and not as fruity as I'd have preferred. This would not prevent me from ordering it again, however, if I had not made a conscious move toward green teas, which I seem to tolerate better than black.

This tea quickly became one of my favorites. It has a sweetness that isn’t overpowering but just right.

I’ve always wonder what currant taste like since I see it as a wine ingredient. This was mostly black tea with a hint of currant I think.

This tea is rich and sweet with some raspberry notes (from the raspberry leaf inclusion) and an undertone of raisins. It's excellent for blending with berry flavored black teas.

My husband is the one who drinks this tea. He absolutely loves it. He tried the tea that I buy only once and wasn't too crazy about but when I brewed the currant tea, he was hooked! Now I brew it by the pitcherful and I continue to buy it on a regular basis for him.

UPDATE 5/20/24: This is a nice berry tasting tea, it's not one of my favorites, but it's good in blends.

Not my cup of tea. It was bitter (probably from the raspberry leaves) and I couldn't taste any currant flavor. I brewed this at 180°F for 2 minutes.

I used to drink this all the time back in undergrad, but realized I hadn't had it in over a decade. The good news is that it tastes just as good as I remember! Mildly sweet, I do enjoy drinking this black, but I think it would work well with milk. This pairs well with a savory snack.

Not sure if I used too hot of water on this one or left it to steep for too long but it had a bit of a bitter note to it. Still better than other currant teas I have tried recently

★★☆☆☆

A strong black tea base. Flavor isn’t as magical as it smells.

★★★☆☆

The dry tea smells berry-ish. 2 min @ 165. A smooth black tea, but not much other flavor. I've never had currants, so I don't know how it compares. It was better cold, no bitterness or astringency.

I love the adagio currant tea for its rich and fruity taste. The tea has a deep red color and a sweet and tangy aroma that reminds me of fresh berries. The flavor is smooth and balanced, with a hint of jammy currants and a bright finish. The tea is delicious and it pairs well with freshly bake scones!
