I was greeted with a delightfully decadent smell when I opened my CommuniTEA packet today and this tea was fantastic. I will definitely purchase more of this in the future.

UPDATED from 10/24/22: All ingredients were present in the CommuniTEA packet. The aroma is that of chicory and chocolate. This steeps at a slightly lower temp to avoid bitterness into a dark rusty amber. This is a delicious dark chocolate tea. The taste is full bodied with a slight smokiness, as the woody, nutty, and bitter dark chocolate flavors are predominant. WOW, this is good. Adding ¼ teaspoon of sweetener (to 12 oz) and heavy whipping cream sweetens this enough to make it a great replacement for hot cocoa in the winter - just keep in mind it has high caffeine. Beware: this is NOT a sweet, wimpy milk chocolate - so if you only like milk chocolate, this may not be for you. This is strong stuff - will grow hair on your chest chocolate - but ooh so good. So if you like dark chocolate - give this a try! I think this is Adagio’s best tasting chocolate tea. (3 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener and cream).
In the bag: The black tea and cocoa nibs form an off-black base for the pops of cornflower blue and cocoa nib tan.
On the nose (pre-steep): A rich blend of chocolate notes. Sweet, silky milk chocolate combines with rougher dark cocoa. No chicory, though.
On the nose (post-steep): Others have described this scent as hot cocoa - I completely agree. It blends perfectly with a mild black tea flavor. Slightly less intense than pre-steep.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): A similar flavor profile to on the nose (post-steep), though the chocolate seems more dark than milk. A bit of bitterness, even though I steeped at a lower temp.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): No change in overall flavors, though less bitter.
Opinion: An excellent tea for us choco-holics. Others have described this as hot cocoa without the calories - an apt description. Does well as a dessert tea. I recommend lowering the temp to 195 or less.
Preparation: 3 min @ 195 ℉, ½ tsp monk fruit sweetener
Loved, loved, loved the chicory coalescing with the cocoa nibs. This was a delightful slow sip to start of the day
Really good blend; not as sweet as I expected but the chocolate still really came through.
Had again for the communitea--Tasted more chocolate this time. Added some vanilla almond milk that rounded out the sweetness. still a nice blend
Just a really good cup of tea. I loved the blend of strong black tea flavor and cocoa. I sweetened with stevia. Wonderful aroma, nice blending of flavors. The cocoa flavor is not too heavy...it accents the tea nicely. Very enjoyable! Added to my wish list!
12/3/21 - Definitely one of my favorite dessert teas! Made this into a tea latte today -- so good! :) Love this tea! I can feel like I'm having a treat while still sticking to my medical diet restrictions. :) mmmm!
1/31/23 - Cinco De Mayo is my fav chocolate tea, but this is a very close second! Sweet, but not overpoweringly so...the chocolate balances well with the black tea. Love it!
How have I not previously reviewed this tea? This tea is so good, it is so creamy and chocolaty, i like to add honey and cream!!
9/10. The first time I followed the directions and it was too mild. 2nd time I added more tea and it was delicious. Would order again.
This is a fantastic tea, so rich and deep. I love brewing it a little strong - 1.5 tsp per 8 oz, but a bit cooler and shorter. It is rich and profound, definitely gives me a nice, satisfying curb to my chocolate cravings. Water is important for this one, and I recommend soft water to bring out a dark chocolate taste. Brewed at 5 mins, the black tea astringency starts to mask the flavors. Cooler tea and tea with sugar emphasize the sweetness, while milk makes this tea just explode with creaminess and chocolate. I enjoyed this tea with my husband and a friend who were greatly impressed, and it is my mother's favorite. This seems to be the most chocolatey of Adagio's chocolate teas, and it is quite good. It's not as soothing as the cream tea, or as complex as the tigereye, but if you want dark, rich chocolate, try brewing it a bit strong and you will be set.
OH My Gosh. I loved this tea.. I was craving something chocolate and this tea hit the spot.. will buy more!
i have just tried this for first time. i certainly will purchase this again. many good choclately and other flavors on demand.
Delicious! I like to steep at a lower temp For extra smooth flavor. Will be adding this to my next pound order!
This tea is a solid one but not one of my absolute favorite adagio teas.
This is a favorite of mine. I've ordered it several times so far. It's fun to blend with other flavors too
Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! Cant go wrong with a tea that tastes like chocolate but not overly sweet... definitely one of the tastiest chocolate teas I have had!
After drinking this (black with a 1/2 packet of Stevia) it leaves a nice creamy mouth feel - like I just had a nice piece of chocolate. Very satisfying.
Really blew me away when I first tried it. While I now prefer other flavors here, this will always be a classic for me, if only out of nostalgia.
Love it tastes delicious, will be ordering on a bigger size ,can’t wait
Danette
I was so hesitant to try chocolate tea at first, but I haven’t ordered one from Adagio that I haven’t absolutely loved. I use this to make my own knock-off version of the Scorpio blend from time to time.
The this chocolate dessert replacement. Really relaxing to drink
This is a nice black tea with a light chocolate flavor. I think I expect these to be naturally sweeter than they are but went I focus on the black tea flavor and not wanting them to taste like the name, I really enjoy these dessert teas.
Chocolate has always seemed an odd choice for tea (I always associate it as a coffee thing). However, if I am in the mood, I have come to enjoy a number of Adagio's chocolate blends. Chocolate Truffle is extra flavorful, I think, because of the chicory. Perhaps it adds a depth to the beverage that supports the chocolate really well. I would recommend this one.
Heavy on the truffle. A little less so on the chocolate. Not my cup of tea but it could be yours. I don't know that it compares to a cup of hot cocoa. Maybe with some whipped cream and a few chocolate chips added in
I really enjoyed this tea, I recommend drinking it without any sweetener. It smells truly amazing and its great for a cold or chilly afternoon
I love the rich aroma of chocolate to start my day!
Very chocolate very good needs less sugar than most tea Very chocolate very good needs less sugar than most tea Very chocolate very good needs less sugar than most tea
A fine tea flavor. Take this 10/10 to an 11/10 with hazelnut or french vanilla coffee creamer
Sweet full bodied. Smells like Christmas would buy again. Absolutely the best
I like this a lot. I drink it so much that I decided to use it on my tea pet. He seems to be pleased with it as well. :)
This tea was wonderful. The chocolate was smooth and rich. I really like dark chocolates (less sweet) so this was just perfect for me.
This black tea has so much flavor it's amazing as is! I will try it sweetened too, but I love a tea that is delicious as is and this one definitely is!
This is super chocolatey! I love it with a splash of oat milk.
Very strong chocolate flavor, and when hot it has that chocolate liquor flavor which isn't my favorite as it doesn't seem like a true chocolate. With sugar and some cooling time it becomes very rich. Good for two steeps. I think Adagio has better chocolate teas (such as Cinco de Mayo, Chocolate Chai, or just the Chocolate tea), but this one is okay. (3 min @ 190)
I was so excited to see this tea. I have been wanting to try it for ages. I had very high hopes going into this cup of tea this morning. I can say without a doubt that I was not disappointed. So rich and chocolatey. I only wish I could get this tea in decaf form so I could have it after dinner.
A mild, deeper, more darkly rounded chocolate blend. Added a touch of dark agave to help brighten and intensify the chocolate flavouring. It's a must try for those with a sweet tooth, or any enjoyer of the sweeter teas!
This was a lovely chocolate tea. I would not put this in my favorites category, but it was very drinkable.
Nice amount of chocolate and sweetness for an afternoon treat.
This is my favorite of Adagio's chocolate teas! Even just the scent of it is amazing, but steeped it's a decadent, indulgent cup without the need for cream or sugar.
CommuniTEA 10/24/22: Another tea with chocolate that I thought I would hate, but actually ended up enjoying. I used extra sweetener to make it more like a desert. Mild on the chocolate flavor in the beverage compared to the cloying Chocolate liquor scent of the dry leaves.
200F for 4 minutes
This is a delicious, smooth, black tea with just the right amount of chocolate to give it a decadent taste. It’s a perfect dessert tea, and I highly recommend it.
Aromas of chocolate were noted upon opening the CommuniTea packet. All ingredients were present in the packet as well. I steeped the tea at 190 degrees for 3 minutes to make sure it wasn't too bitter. The flavor was very balanced between the smooth black tea and the sweetness of the chocolate chips and cocoa nibs. This is a lovely dessert tea treat, especially if you like dark chocolate!
I brewed at 200 it has a chocolaty flavor it is a great for a treat but not something I would not something I would want to drink all the time.
I definitely tasted the chocolate in this tea. It is very close to the chocolate flavor of a cup of chocolate that was made for royalty and the nobility back over 200 years ago. I did a course on making that type of chocolate drink and this tea comes very close to the flavor. Definitely worth the purchase if you don’t always want the sweet taste of chocolate.
Delicious dessert tea. The perfect steep for me was 190° for 3 minutes. It allowed the chocolate to shine, without letting any bitterness come through. Very smooth and slightly sweet all on its own, so no additions were needed. I love the addition of the chicory, I think it added just the right touch to the blend and kept everything well balanced. Yum 😋
CommuniTEA portion: Steeped lower at 195 for 3 minutes. Let me start by saying I am a dark chocolate lover. So this tea is a deep, rich, yummy sip! I would love to try this as a latte sometime. Maybe with chocolate milk! 🍫
This is a nice smooth black tea with plenty of chocolate notes that hit you throughout drinking it! There's also a creaminess to the tea that helps give the same feeling as drinking hot chocolate. My only complaint is that chocolate tea has a tendency to be a bit artificial in flavor, and that artifical taste is very present since there isn't anything to help mask it.
Nice chocolate and cocoa taste. Kinda get some of the candy like sweetness but yeah it is chocolaty. Pleasant to drink but doesn't jump out and say I need to drink you on a weekly basis. Might get a small bag of this in the future but I really would not get any size bigger than that.
2022-10-24 Update:
Chocolate aromas rose out of today's packet as it cracked open. The recommended 3-min steep at 212°F produced a rich dark chestnut-brown colored tea.
Dark cocoa and brisk black tea were the first flavors in the sip. Cocoa nibs add a somewhat sharp and intense dark-chocolate bitterness, while the chocolate chips managed to sweeten things up and keep them in balance. Bold black tea adds a finish with moderate astringency.
Still an excellent extra-dark cocoa tea blend!
2021-12-04 CommuniTEA Review:
Today's packet smelled like a dark chocolate truffle! A quick 3 minute steep at 212°F produced a dark chestnut brown tea.
Dark cocoa notes were plentiful throughout the tea from start to finish. A hint of woodier and slightly bitter cocoa nibs was present towards the middle. Black tea holds its own amidst the strong chocolate. Moderate levels of astringency were boosted slightly by the dark chocolate flavors.
Quite the cocoa-forward black tea that any dark chocolate lover is sure to enjoy!
Of Adagio's chocolate tea offerings, this is the best I've had. It does have a rich chocolate taste which is enhanced by adding sweetener (rock sugar, in my case). A little milk helps give it a little more substance, but it's good without that as well. For me, though, it cannot replace a good a cup of hot cocoa; it lacks the weight. I realize many would appreciate that, but for me that textural sensation is just as important as the taste. (3-4 minutes @ 200F)
I’m normally pretty picky about chocolate in my tea, but this one hit the spot. Nicely blended.
