This was just okay for me. First of all I am not that big a fan of chocolate so the fragrance alone didn't impress me. It did remind me of hot chocolate without the creaminess though there was a sllghtly bitter after taste. Sorry I started my day with this as my first cup of tea.

A yummy chocolatey tea with no frills. This is great for blending. It’s more of a dark chocolate taste, but being dairy free, I’ve come to accept and embrace that flavor. A spoonful of sugar and a drop of almond milk really elevated this.

I was a big dummy and forgot to add milk to this.
Even at a lower brew temperature it was pretty bitter on its own. I'm sure it would taste a LOT better if I had remembered some milk to go with the chocolate.

I have had this tea in one of my sampler packs that I've bought, and it's definitely a tea for people with sweet tooths, and for people who enjoy treating their teas like coffee! I love this one with a flavored coffee creamer, in this case sugar cookie. A delicious delight!

The CommuniTEA packet today smelled like rich decadent chocolate! Excited to try this oneout, I popped it in the VelociTEA maker and pressed the 'black tea' button, to steep at 212°F. I forgot to babysit it to take the basket out for 2 minutes, so it steeped for the full 5 minutes instead!
Expecting this to make it too tannic and bitter, I carefully took the first sip. It was still great, not too bitter at all! The chocolate flavor was front & center, backed up by the brisk Ceylon black tea. Cacao nibs join in to give a slight bittersweet hint of raw cacao pod flavor. Although I decided to sip this without cream, it seems like it would pair wonderfully.
Overall, this one was surprisingly balanced even when steeped for 5 minutes. Great blend!

I think the purpose of this tea is less to drink on its own; there are other chocolatey blends around. But this is probably a great tea to have if you like to make blends at home, and you'd like to add chocolate into it.

I am a huge fan of dark chocolate so I was very excited to try today's communitea offering! I brewed it up a touch under 200 degrees to try to stave off any bitterness.
The brew was ok, definitely a chocolatey vibe but somehow, the water just made it seem like watery hot cocoa, with too little cocoa added. I wanted more taste... maybe this would have been better doctored up with sweetener and cream, but I always try to do a review based on the unadulterated tea itself. This one was ok, but lacked personality. I think it could have been improved on a different base, one that is more malty, and could imbue it with that extra creamy taste you want from chocolate. So , if you want to have a desert like tea, you would have to doctor up your tea quite a bit for you to get that sense of chocolate. In my opinion, Adagio had some other better options that have a better chocolate flavour!

Just your basic chocolate tea. I added some vanilla cream to make it more decadent.

This one is really nice. I don't really like chocolate teas as they seem lacking, but this one is really nice, and I would consider having it on hand.

I don’t know if this was a tea that wanted to be a chocolate or a chocolate that wanted to be a tea and got stuck in a good limbo and balanced both 🤷🏻♀️ In any case, I definitely liked my cup of communitea today. I should have tried adding cream though, would have tasted even better.

The smell out of the packet is very lovely, but once brewed, it lacked a strong chocolate flavor - I got more of the bitter cacao taste. But I've always had issues with chocolate flavored teas, they were never quite what I wanted.

I still think chocolate truffle is slightly better, but this is also a delicious chocolate tea. I added some sugar and a splash of milk to really make it perfect!

This tea has a strong chocolate smell when you open the package. They were pretty generous with the amount of tea that was in packet today. I steeped it in my travel mug and there was plenty of flavor despite the large cup.
I steeped this tea at 212F for 5 minutes to account for the larger amount of water. I also prefer stronger tea than I get after 3 minutes of steeping. I added a spoonful of sugar and some milk and it was a creamy chocolate treat.
★★★★☆
Dry and brewed the aroma is a bit fake - like a chocolate scratch 'n sniff sticker. Luckily the flavor is less fake. The tea is smooth, and gives a strong chocolate impression. The ceylon provides a nice black tea base, with a slight bitter bite, that blends well with the chocolate flavor. I like this plain and find it needs no additions to be tasty. This said it was supposed to taste like chocolate. I beg to differ. It tastes like the 90% dark chocolate. Mostly bitter earth with the memory smell of chocolate.
★★★☆☆
I'm not a fan of chocolate tea and I feel there are other Adagio teas with chocolate that are better. The packet smelled like a Tootsie Roll but the brewed tea had a better taste than that. This was a meh for me personally but I can see where this would be good in a blend.

Warm, dark chocolate, and slightly malty flavors! Somehow, the chocolate reminds me of assam tea, but milder in terms of maltiness. But still, this flavor profile makes it ideal for a milk tea. A little splash of milk and maple syrup made this really delightful! Goes great in other blends as well.

I simply love this chocolate tea! A beautiful rich chocolate taste without being overly sweet. I enjoy mine with a splash of coconut milk to bring out a creaminess.

Not for me. I have been able to enjoy the chocolate taste in certain blends, but this is not a tea I would buy.

Opening the packet provided a waft of comforting cocoa goodness which just made me smile. There were quite a few cocoa nibs in my sample, making their presence known. Once steeped, this is a straightforward cup of chocolate tea. The Ceylon played a supporting role without being bitter, and the chocolate felt creamy, lending toward milk chocolate over dark, even more so as it cooled. I added a touch of stevia to add a little sweetness.
I enjoyed this as I drank it, although I drink caffeinated teas in the morning and prefer sweet, chocolately confections later in the day or at night. Even though in theory I don't prefer chocolate in the morning, there was something addicting about this tea and I found myself going back to steep several cups and was sad when it reached its end. I might surprise myself by adding some to my next order.

The smell of this tea is very chocolatey, but the taste is black tea dominant, complimented by chocolate. If you really want chocolate, this won't be it, but it's perfect if you want a dessert tea! Add milk and sugar for more richness.

I was really pleased with this for a mild chocolate tea. The scent is of a super sweet, kind of cheap chocolate liqueur, but the tea itself ends up having more body from the black tea. I prefer this to the chocolate truffle tea, which had too much of that liqueur flavor from the chocolate chips.

200 degrees for 4 minutes. I tried to eke out a bit more chocolate essence by steeping this tea an extra minute but at a lower temp to avoid astringency from the Ceylon, and I think it was a success. I agree with another reviewer that said this tea smelled like fudge. It's not a straight up chocolate smell or taste, more like the idea of chocolate blended with the bright notes of the Ceylon tea. It showed its best colors at a cooler drinking temperature and sweetened. The cocoa lends this tea an almost coffee-like drinking experience with its mild bitterness. Overall, I enjoyed it, but those darn Leprechauns still have it beat in depth of flavor and richness.

The aroma has a slightly fake chocolate smell both in the packet and brewed. Surprisingly the taste does not. It is a mild milk chocolate flavor with a nice forward black tea flavor. I would drink this when I wanted a sweet but not the calories.

If you're in the mood for chocolate, I would highly recommend this tea. I added about 1/4 tsp of Stevia to help add some sweetness. I'm sure it would also be excellent with some cream.

Dessert without all the calories! I steeped this at a lower temperature than suggested in order to avoid any bitterness from the Ceylon tea and added a bit of vanilla creamer. Perfect, cup after cup!

black tea: This tea has a strong chocolately smell like a a chocolate cookie, but it tastes more like a chocolate liqueur. It's quite a simple tea that has a mild astringency, a moderate dose of chocolate, and a little booziness. With a small addition of sugar the flavor didn't change a lot, but when I added cream the booziness disappeared. On my second steep I added only cream, no sugar, which surprisingly brought out more sweetness from the chocolate and resulted in a mild hot cocoa flavor. It's quite pleasant to drink with or without cream, and because of it's simplicity I think it would make a great base to blend with other flavors (I meant to try it with some cinnamon but forgot to add it...next time!) I did not enjoy drinking this tea cold, but when hot I found it an easy to drink tea that will make a good base for other flavors.

Chocolate flavors in tea have never tasted quite right to me. I would love a tea that actually tasted like a cup of hot dark chocolate, but this isn't it. This was a decent cup of tea with a mild chocolate-like flavor. It tastes similar to chocolate, but just sort of 'off' - and not like real chocolate. Which makes sense since, as answered by Adagio CS below, it is 'made from essential oils that mimic the aroma and taste of chocolate'. It's not bad; but it's just not as good as real chocolate.

saw the cocoa nibs in my communiTea packet, and it smelled chocolatey, but not too sweet.
As I've come to learn with Adagio's chocolate teas, they aren't sweet - the tea itself is smooth and tastes of bitter chocolate. I'm sure a bit of sugar would have changed things, but I drink my tea straight, and prefer a more bitter chocolate taste anyway. The flavor is well-rounded, and the chocolate came forward a little more as it cooled.

CommuniTea review- I found this to be kinda meh...no big deal. The chocolate was mild. This maybe good as part of a blend. I feel that there are other chocolate teas Adagio offers that are better. When I think about it...I enjoy chocolate chai teas better.

The aroma of chocolate escapes the CommuniTEA packet as I open it. I steep at 195 F x 3 min to avoid bitterness. I want this to be a decadent dessert tea so I add rock sugar and then Italian flavored cream (amount unknown -I just pour each in until it 'looks right') ! Mm-mmm! Chef's kiss. Next I am going to re-steep with wild strawberry.

I've learned one thing about chocolate teas: don't oversteep. This was just a one minute steeping for me to really enjoy it. Although good, I can't say that I'm fully into enjoying it. If you like chocolate, just don't oversteep.

There’s a nice light touch of chocolate in this chocolate flavored tea. It's simple and tasty. The sweet chocolate flavor is nicely balanced with sharper tasting cocoa nibs and a Ceylon tea base that provides a bright and tangy lift to the finish for a satisfying chocolate experience. This tea can be sipped as is or mixed with another tea to add a causal chocolate flourish to the blend.
In my CommuniTEA packet today, there were 3 g./ 2 tsp. of dark tea leaves polka dotted with cocoa nibs. It smelled like a little chocolate factory when I sniffed the just opened packet. I brewed 10 oz. at 208F for 3 min. and a dark brown liquor developed with a gentler scent of chocolate than that of the dry tea. The chocolate flavor, I thought, was at its best when the tea had cooled to a comfortable sipping temp. and then sweetened with Tupelo honey. Tupelo honey is mild honey that doesn’t add any additional flavor notes so I could savor the pure chocolate taste more. The tea had some pleasant astringency which I felt grounded the chocolate flavor well and I didn’t detect any bitterness with careful brewing. A resteep had a much weaker chocolate taste and a stronger Ceylon tea one even when less water was used.
I tried another popular chocolate tea, Chocolate Truffle, side by side with Chocolate tea. Chocolate Truffle had a darker chocolate taste aided by chicory and probably a darker tea base too, maybe an Assam tea. It was full-bodied and heftier in flavor as compared to more buoyantly flavored Chocolate tea. I chilled and tasted a sweetened mini cup of each. I preferred the flavor of Chocolate Truffle cold over cooled Chocolate tea but I enjoy both of them hot and as flavor blends in other teas as well. Both chocolate flavored teas have a special place in my tea stash.

This is one of my favorite Adagio teas! While I don't usually sip it on it's own, I love to add a bit to other teas - mint, fruit, AND floral! I've also learned through the communiTEA that this pairs very well with Assam. Today I drank it on it's own with a small bit of stevia. If you prefer dark chocolate over milk, you can achieve the more bitter flavor by letting the leaves sit a little longer. A shorter brew and a bit of sweetener will get you closer to the milk chocolate flavor. A great tea to have on hand when you're craving a bit of chocolate but either don't have any in the house, or don't want the heavy feeling in your stomach (or calories!) after.

I found this tea to be smoky and very astringent, without much chocolate flavor.

Enjoying along with the CommuniTEA: Lots of chocolate liqueur scent wafting from dry ingredients and packet. Once steeped for 3 mins at 190°F to minimized black tea tannins, I notice a honey-vanilla, chocolate essence on the nose. When I take a sip, I enjoy astringent, rich black tea tannins that morph pleasantly into bitter chocolate notes, followed by more chocolate liqueur finish.

If it were possible to rate teas with half stars, this one would get 4.5 stars. But, since that's not possible, I rounded up. Certainly, this tea is an indulgent way to start the day. It begins with a wonderfully sweet, chocolatey aroma from the pouch. The tea, once brewed, may at first disappoint. The bitterness of the tea eclipses the chocolate flavor but seems appropriate for raw cacao. Adding some sugar (more than I might otherwise add to tea) coaxes out a sweeter chocolate flavor, one comparable to hot cocoa. How could this tea earn that extra half star to make it to the full five? Either a richer chocolate flavor or one that is more pronounced without adding an abundance of sugar would make this tea perfect.

This is a pretty nice chocolate tea, although I think I would prefer it blended with other flavors than just by itself. It has a rich dark chocolate taste that is just slightly bitter. The briskness of the Ceylon tea is an alright base, but I think I might enjoy the chocolate more paired with a malty Assam black tea. It does smell almost like a chocolate liquor, so I think the description is spot on. I turned it into more of a dessert tea with some milk and sugar and it was pretty nice, just not something I would want all the time.

I'm not a milk chocolate lover but love dark chocolate. Yah to my surprise that it was a rich tea and the taste was more a dark chocolate. I loved every sip!

This is a 'treat' tea, something I'd enjoy on a special occasion. A tea party perhaps?! My CommuniTea sample was an unexpected surprise as I didn't think chocolate tea could be this good.

I honestly didn't expect this to taste like chocolate at all. Usually, a flavored black tea tastes like black tea to me and the flavors aren't strong enough to cut through the astringency of the black tea itself. That's not to say I don't like them, I just never expect them to taste the way they're labeled to taste.
Enter chocolate from Adagio, shattering my expectations. The flavor is subtle enough that I don't forget for a second that I'm drinking a flavored black tea, but it's strong enough that it genuinely does taste like chocolate. More specifically, it genuinely tastes like chocolate in that way that something bitter can - a mocha doesn't taste like chocolate but it also totally kinda does. A chocolate-flavored coffee still tastes like coffee but it also kinda does taste like chocolate. This tea is like that - the chocolate is present, but the tea, too, is very present.
That's probably an unnecessarily verbose and roundabout way of saying I love this because it tastes like it's supposed to. Well, sorry. I haven't finished the cup yet, so I'm still waking up. Give this a try, if you like chocolate but don't mind the astringency and bitterness of a black tea. If you can't get past the bitterness part, I suggest Adagio's chocolate truffle instead, or a touch of cream and a little bit of your choice of sweetener to this one.

I wanted to love this tea, but the chocolate was more reminiscent of a tootsie roll than a chocolate bar. (I do not like tootsie rolls.) The black tea and cocoa nibs tasted nice and smooth. But the scent and hint of tootsie roll flavor made this tea come up a little short for me.

Today’s communiTea has a delicious rich chocolatey aroma. Hmmm. I found Each sip smooth, delicate, carrying a light astringency that appears in my cup at the end. As for sipping this chocolate tasting tea by itself, not my cuppa tea. However I personally keep a small sample in my tea stash, often adding-in with other blends, giving me that extra chocolatey boost when that dark chocolate craving is lacking in my cup.
My ⭐️stars are based on drinking alone. If I was reviewing as an add-in tea my stars ✨ would a 4.

The dry tea smells very chocolaty, although I only notice two cocoa nibs in my CommuniTEA packet. Once brewed, the tea is a deep chocolate brown, and still smells subtly of chocolate. The Ceylon adds an astringency that is bright and adds a cleaner finish. The tea only faintly tastes of chocolate without adding anything to the cup, with a bit of bitterness that I attribute to the chocolate. When sweetened with 1/8 tsp of sweetener, the chocolate notes intensify and some of the bitterness disappears. The tea is more on the dark chocolate end of the spectrum than milk chocolate, even with the sweetener added and the finish remains clean from the Ceylon. Brewed for 3 minutes at 200.

I have not been a big fan of chocolate teas in the past, but this one I really enjoyed. I followed the steeping directions perfectly and waited impatiently for my first sip.
I really enjoyed the overall smoothness of the tea. It does not have a cocoa powder essence to it. The chocolate flavor is very subtle at first but really shines as the tea cools.

This is not my favorite chocolate tea. (Chocolate chip is!) Overall, this is fine. Chocolate flavored comes through a bit, I agree with those that say it's a chocolate syrup flavor. I think that's my biggest issue, the flavor seems really artificial. Smells great, but the taste leaves something to be desired.

A healthy amount of tea and several cocoa nibs were noted in my communiTEA packet today. Pleasant chocolatey aromas were noted.
Ingredients weighed in at 3.38 grams, enough for a 14.5 ounce steep. I steeped at 190°F for three minutes to fend off bitterness from the notorious Ceylon Black tea.
When hot, mild chocolate flavors were overpowered by the moderately bitter tea and unsweetened cocoa nibs. I added ⅜ teaspoon of sugar to sweeten things up.
When warm, moderate sweetened dark chocolate flavors were noted. Tea bitterness was almost nonexistent. Mild milk chocolate flavors were noted from the chocolate flavoring. An lingering, but acceptable bitterness was noted from the cocoa nibs towards finish.
If you like dark chocolate, keep your steep temperature low, and you may really enjoy this one straight-up. This chocolate blend would probably work well in a chocolate chai blend requiring heap of sugar. (3 mins @ 190ºF, ⅜ tsp sugar)
