Pungent smell of cherries and chocolate when I first opened the package, and I was a little worried the cherry flavor would be too artificial. Not so! A warm mix with good cherry flavor and a solid layer of chocolate, better with milk or cream.
Black Forest Cake tea is our take on the classic dessert with rich chocolate and cherry liqueur and a touch of creme. A divine indulgence!

Let me start by saying that, being of German descent, every year for my birthday I make myself a schwarzwälder kirschtorte, or black forest cake. This tea is pretty good. In the real deal chocolate dominates and you only get a hint of cherry (unless you top the cake with cherries). This is pretty much this tea as well... Three thumbs up from me on this one...
I have had the opportunity to try this tea several times, and every time, it leaves me disappointed. The scent of the dry leaves is promising, with rich cocoa notes standing out. Once brewed, though, those aromas give way to more cherry on the tongue, and sadly, to my palate, Adagio's cherry flavoring tastes medicinal. The natural cocoa notes in the Ceylon base and the added chocolate flavor go a long way toward tempering the medicinal taste from the cherry flavoring, rendering the tea drinkable, but it's still not one I enjoy. Undoubtedly, it would benefit from sweetening, but since that would also highlight the cherry flavors, I never do. (3 minutes @ 200F)
Not a fan of most chocolate teas. This one was gross like chocolate rolled in dirt. I will stick to my fancy black teas if I want some natural chocolate flavoring.
Cherry seems to be a hard flavor to capture. This is a nice dessert tea, just not for me. Nice balance of flavors
I have had this tea before but haven't reviewed it until now. I love this chocolate tea with a hint if cherry. I took my tea on the road to meet my family for a Pancake fundraiser this morning. It paired beautifully with my chocolate chip pancakes!
I love black forest cake, so I was excited to try this tea. It smells amazing, like a rich chocolate cake with cherries. The taste is heavenly, with a smooth black tea base and a hint of creaminess. The cherry flavor is not overpowering, but adds a nice touch of sweetness and tartness. The chocolate chips and cocoa nibs melt in the hot water and create a decadent chocolate flavor that complements the tea. I like to add a splash of milk and a bit of sugar to make it even more indulgent. Sadly, I did not have a slice of black forest cake at hand, I had to suffer the hardship of eating a chocolate mug cake with cherry chips instead. It has hard! :) (3 min @ 205°F)
It tastes very much like cherries and chocolate cake. I'm just not a huge fan of this combination.
Taste like a watered down version of a black forest cake! They nailed the flavor on this one.
So interesting how almost every review is different! Not a big cherry/chocolate fan and the tea smelled strongly of cherry before brewing, milder after. Taste is mostly cherry with a cocoa finish, definitely sweeten it as it brings out/balances the flavors and gets more ‘cake’-y.
This chocolate tea is really good, I had no cherries in my mix but the flavor was still there, Mixed with the black tea and creme, this one is a perfect Sunday afternoon sip
Yummy chocolate cup. I didn't really pick up on cherry, but there was a sweetness that hinted it was there.
This is one of my favorites and I will eventually get a full bag once my chocolatety tea stash is lessened. I do 3 min 212F 6 oz of water and then add about a tsp of whole milk or heavy whipping cream or 1/2 and 1/2. It’s a good sub for hot cocoa since I really don’t need the sugar from it. Also the flavor really lingers for a while, which is so nice!
Such a delicious cup of tea. It has a nice chocolate flavor.
A rich chocolate tea with only the slightest hint of cherry.
Not my favorite tea. The cherry flavor comes forward and seems artificial. The chocolate follows the cherry flavor a second later. Adding oat milk took away the cherry flavor, but lessened the chocolate also. Not a tea I will be adding to my rotation.
A tasty blend of flavors. A good tea when you are looking for a dessert tea.
I got more of the cream than the chocolate and no cherry flavor at all, but it was still a nice cup of tea.
A wondrous dessert tea which I always have in my stash. A blissful taste journey of a smooth & delectable Black Forest Cake flavor profile. Wonderful with a lil creme and sweetener of your choice.
This is such a good tea. The cherry isn't as noticeable as I'd like, but it's so rich and delicious that I don't really mind. Steeped 3 min @ 195º.
Cherry holds the chair
Cheekily for chocolate
While the china chimes
Like chirping chipmunks
Chasing a cheerful child
Chittering, chatting
Cherry chocolate
Just Chilling and chillaxing,
Cheering and charming

If you asked me what my favorite cake was black forest cake would be right up there. This tea was so tasty. I love that the chocolate isn't overpowering, and the cherry doesn't taste like medicine. I will be getting this tea again.
I love a good chocolate tea, and this one qualifies. I taste dark chocolate, (72% dark chocolate if this was a candy bar), with a hint of cherry skimming the top of the brew. I did not taste any creme, not even on the cool down. I've never had Black Forest cake, and probably never will, but this tea is a good substitute.
This tea is ok, the wisp of cherry flavor I get seems very artificial. Now a brilliantly delicious cherry, chocolate tea is Jeff's Cherry Chip!!!
Wonderful blend of sweet chocolate and tart cherry tastes! So good! Makes a wonderful latte! Lovely sweet aroma and taste!
Tastes just like Black Forest Cake with sweetener and creamer added. A nice dessert tea.
In the bag: The blend is almost entirely Ceylon leaves. A few decent chunks of chocolate chip and cocoa nibs. No cherries.
On the nose (pre-steep): A medicinal cherry flavor arises from the bag. Hint of milk chocolate in the background. Sweet undertone.
On the nose (post-steep): Similar scent as pre-steep, but without the sugar. The chocolate is stronger and darker, but still slightly lags behind the cherry.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Cherry is the same as in the scent. Chocolate is subtle and has become the unsweetened cocoa of Ceylon. Bitter, especially in the aftertaste.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): Cherry is a little sweeter and thus more palatable. The sweetener also offsets the bitterness.
Opinion: Meh. The cherry flavor just doesn't work here, and the chocolate is too subtle to make up for it. If I were the blender, I would dial up the chocolate and dial down the cherry. It's best with sweetener.
Preparation: First steep 3 min, second steep 6 min. Both @ 195 °F. ½ teaspoon monk fruit sweetener.
A lovely desert tea, or afternoon treat. I may try it iced as well.
This tea really taste like a Black Forest Cake.. The chocolate and cherry favors stand out in this tea. A great tea for the holidays
Heavy on the cherry flavor but still a very good dessert tea, will likely want some milk in it.
Was more cherry than chocolate, which was not the flavor profile I was looking for. Overall a good tea in general.
This is a great dessert tea that I like to drink after a meal. It's sweet and delicious. It is very reminiscent of black forest cake!
This tea is exactly like black forest cake. I don't know how Adagio gets the flavors so perfect, but they do. We tried a sampler and immediately ordered a 3-ounce pouch and additional tea bags in this flavor for our children to try. So good!
Did not like at all. I just got a perfume, floral scent and taste. Did not taste any chocolate or cherry. Wouldn't recommend.
I love the black forest cake as a desert tea, great with creamer and a decent amount of sugar to really bring out the chocolate flavoring
This has always been one of my favorites. It feels as if you are treating yourself to a dessert because of the chocolate smell and taste without the calories. If you splurge and add honey, it is a real treat.
This is definitely the tea to drink if you're a chocolate lover because ohhhhh my goodness it is so good. I put in some almond milk and stirred it up and it really brought out the cherry flavor! Ordering a bulk purchase next time. Perfect for the cold weather coming up soon!!
Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate with a hint of cherry. This was just like a black forest cake - but without all the calories. A delicious tea - highly recommend!
Loved this tea - sweet cherry and chocolate all in one delicious sip. I tried a sampler and decided to buy a 3 oz bag, but ended up buying cherry by accident, I was so disappointed, but will be buying again.
Tastes like a dessert drink, very smooth and enjoyable.
This reminded me a bit of the Valentine's blend, except with cherry. Each flavor (chocolate and cherry) do not over power each other, great with milk!
I steeped a full teaspoon at 212, and there was a bit of a bitter tast. After seeing some reviews of using a little less, and not quite boiling water, I plan on trying that next to see if it helps with the bitterness.
You won't find a more delicious cup of tea. All the flavors of Black Forest Cake without being too sweet. Stands up to milk too.
Great 'sweet' black tea to curb the sweet tooth in the afternoon! Add a dash of milk or put over ice
I like Black Forest with cream and monk sugar when I’m looking for something sweet.
I definitely taste the liquor flavoring, but this makes a great dessert tea. When I crave something sweet, but don't have the energy to make anything.
Update 7/17/23:
I ended up having to give this to someone else, because the liqueur flavoring was way too overpowering.
Oh my goodness! I cannot say enough good things about this tea. It is a new favorite. It is full-bodied and flavorful. I will definitely continue to buy this tea.
It’s like having cake in a cup … I have bought this a couple times and probably will buy it many more times … nice combination of the tea, chocolate and cherry flavor …
This is a very rich tea and needs some sort of cream to balance it out. I also think this tea is best when paired with other flavors. :)
Cherry and chocolate! What a combination! Add sweetener to complete the brew. Tart and satisfying at the same time!
