I liked this chai in general, but it was a bit heavy on the clove, making it difficult for me to really get any of the other flavors.
Decaf black tea with fresh, herby-sweet spices. Balanced and warming. Perfect for newcomers to spiced tea.

I liked this chai in general, but it was a bit heavy on the clove, making it difficult for me to really get any of the other flavors.
This was a very nice chai. I steeped it with less tea than usual (I am not a huge chai spice fan). With oat milk and maple syrup this was lovely and I really only want to doctor tea like that in the evenings when I'm using it as dessert so I really appreciate that this is decaf.
In the bag: Though Ceylon is the base, it's only half the packet. Several sizable clove buds and a substantial number of ginger bits and cardamom seeds. This blend doesn't skimp on the additives!
On the nose (pre-steep): A rich blend of spices. Cardamom and clove are out in front. Hints of cinnamon and ginger bring up the rear. Ceylon is sitting out in this first round. Reminds me of Indian food or a Moroccan market.
On the nose (post-steep): Still a rich scent, which is exceptional for post-steep. Clove and cardamom are still in charge of the expedition, though the former is ahead by an inch. Still getting hints from ginger and cinnamon and no Ceylon.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Exact flavor profile as on the nose, which is rare for a tea. It's also a rare flavored blend in which I don't get any flavor from the base tea. It must be a result of the decaffeination process.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): No change.
Opinion: An almost-pleasant tea. While I enjoy the warming spices, without a base flavor - such as Ceylon - to support them, the blend's flavor comes across as too simple and one-note. It lacks the depth and structure I had hoped for.
Preparation: 4 min @ 195 ℉, ½ tsp monk fruit sweetener
This decaf chai is a little mild on the spices. It is definitely better when you use more tea than what comes in one CommuniTEA packet to make your brew stronger.
Today's communiTEA sample is nice that it's decaf, but it's heavy on the clove. It's good as a latte.
solid chai tea. I sampled this tea as part of the CommuniTea December 2022 box.
Clobbered by clove. This was not balanced. I steeped for 9 minutes and it was weak as a kitten. No taste other than aforementioned clove. Much prefer the Rooibos chai.
I’m not sure why I’ve never reviewed this one, I’ve had it many times and like it. My CT packet today was a little clove heavy, but I love clove so no problem. I love having a good decaf chai option. Brewed nice and strong, with a splash of oat milk and a bit of rock sugar. Delicious cup, I just can’t afford the calories when made this way. (195° for 5 minutes)
So with sugar/honey and milk this would be amazing. I don't add milk to my tea (allergies) so I missed the fun everyone else will partake in. Prob one of the reasons I am not a chai fan. Plain taste = light spice.
This is delicious, I agree one of the best chais - ?! What can I get that has caffeine that's the closest to this? Masala?
I didn’t like chai until adagio’s and this decaf is somehow just as good! Usually decaf is watery & less flavorful, but this one is full flavor and delicious. I’ll definitely get more of this in the future.
I’ve discovered through this tea that I just don’t really like powerful chai unless it’s blended with other flavors. So, this one is not for me.
Chai can sometimes be overpowering, but this decaf version is just right!
This Decaf Chai was not as bold as I would have liked. The spice flavors were all there but it just wasn't very strong and as spicy as I would have preferred.
I'm a fan of Adagio's regular masala chai, and I noticed the ingredients for this one are in a slightly different order. Regular lists: black tea, cardamom, ginger root, cloves, cinnamon flavor, cinnamon bark. This decaf version lists decaf ceylon tea, cloves, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon flavor, cinnamon.
I chose to brew it in the more 'traditional' way, bringing 1:1 milk and water to a boil on the stove, then adding the tea and reducing to a simmer for 4-5 mins before pulling it back a forth a few times and then straining into my mug with 2tsp of cane sugar.
Overall, a nice decaf version of their regular chai - I didn't find the flavor profile to be too different even though the ingredients are in a seemingly different proportion. Mostly cinnamon, clove, and cardamom, with a zing of ginger spice.
I rather like clove
But I craved some peppercorn
Or spicy ginger
A soft, sweet chai tea
Perfect for blending a fave
Or young tea drinkers
(Haiku Review)
Lovely decaf chai with a pleasant balance of spices. Perfect to sip on a cool fall or snowy winter evening. Sip, sip away!
This tea was delicious as a latte! I love that it is a decaf so I was able to enjoy the whole cup. I steeped the 1-1/2 teaspoons CT packet in 8 oz water for a stronger tea. I added a small amount of cream at the bottom of the cup before pouring the tea into the cup. Then I added a pump of Adagio's tea honey for a sweetener. It was delicious hot, but this chai latte would've been wonderful over ice also. This is a chai tea I would like to keep in my tea pantry, especially for the evening tea times. Great chai Adagio! (10 min @200)
A really nice chai. Not my favorite of all time but considering this is decaf, it is very tasty. Smells like a holiday wreath with cinnamon and clove.
This is a nice chai, but very, very heavy on the cloves. They overpower the other spices a bit, which is disappointing.
Well this was excellent. I appreciate a decaf version of a chai, and it's a nice surprise that this tea is also smoother than the other chais I've tried from Adagio. Absolutely enjoyable and absolutely going in my cart.
To be fair, I’m not a huge flavored black or chai fan. This tea was alright but seemed a bit clove heavy on the spice mix. I didn’t really get any of the other flavors. I added sweetener as I usually do for flavored blacks. I’m sure this blend fulfills someone’s caffeine-free chai dreams but it left me unimpressed (and with a mouth full of clove…blech!). Happy Sipping!
Decaf Chai
Suggested steeping directions: 7-10 minutes at 212°F I steeped this tea for 5 minutes at 190°F to stave off potential bitterness, in approximately 11 oz of water with 1.5 tsp of rock/tea sugar.
There is a very spicy aroma upon opening the packet. This translated into a nice, very spicy chai flavor at the first sip. The chai flavors really blend well as the tea cools. Clove, ginger and cinnamon are the most noticeable, but play well together. They don’t fight each other.
It was a little on the weak side despite the flavor punch, but I think I may have used a little too much water for the tea leaves in the CommuniTEA packet. I think this would be great stronger, especially as a latte. Stronger I would give it 4.5 to 5 stars. As it now stands, 4 stars from me, at least until I can try it again.
Very nice black decaf tea base. There's a good blend of spices with a little more cloves than other chais. It's great to have a decaf chai to enjoy in the evenings.
Lovely chai! And love the fact it's decaf! Added to my wishlist after trying for CT because I could sip this whenever I wanted to! yay!
Lovely spice aroma and nice dark golden color. I was worried that the long steeping time would result in a much stronger black tea than I prefer, but it's not bad at all. I just wish the spices were stronger, but it's possible I tried to make more than the little packet allowed for. I'm glad it's decaf so I don't have to worry about timing when I drink it!
Decaf Chai smells great, with cloves standing out. Its spices remain prominent after brewing.
Not my favorite of the Adagio chais, but delicious nonetheless, it being decaf, is definitely the major alluring factor, chai at nite is alway awesome!!! Very enjoyable with creamer and honey!
Decaf Chai is great when you want some late night spice.
Wonderful spicy blend, brewed for a lot longer than most teas, this decaf chai with milk and sweetener makes for a lovely warming nightcap.
Another enjoyable decaf with more of a spice forward presentation than decaf spice. It makes a delicious latte without losing flavor with the addition of cream.
All the review were spot-on. If you love that zingy spice taste of chai, this tea will quickly become a winter favorite. Very spice-forward, even when adding creamer. Be patient and let it steep for at least 7 minutes; you will not be disappointed.
Similar to the masala chai, but decaf. If I want something warm and flavorful in the evening, but I don't want to be kept awake all night, this is the tea I reach for.
Very good afternoon tea with a tough of cream. Nice with one sweet cookie too for an afternoon chill.
Fantastic Chai! I find many Chais go overly-spiced, to the eyes watering, too much going on at once extreme. This blend is not that. This blend is smooth and steady, while still balancing the Chai spices you enjoy in mild amounts. Not enough to punch you in the face, but enough that you taste it on your tongue after a sip. Absolutely brilliant. This is one of my staples. On days when I want even more mildly spiced Chai, I blend with decaff Ceylon for an even more subtle tone on the spices. It is perfect at it is!
This is a wonderful, balanced chai. I love all the varieties of Adagio chai, particularly masala chai and pu-erh chocolate chai. I wanted a decaf for evening enjoyment and was a bit concerned a plain, unadorned chai would be too bland, but it's perfectly balanced and very enjoyable. But please Adagio, find a better way to produce teabags. These bags release microplastics into our tea, and are environmentally unsound. There is NOTHING WRONG with natural fiber teabags and your customers won't think less of them.
I am on an iced tea latte kick and this was a great addition to the rotation. I didn't like it with coconut milk, but cow milk was good
This tea doesn't seem to be simply a decaf version of Masala Chai. I say that because the order of the 1st and 3rd non-tea ingredients are switched-- the cloves and the cardamom. Whatever the case, I seem to prefer the Decaf. I don't know if that's simply my current bag of the tea and the way it was blended or if that will be a constant. I definitely don't steep my tea as long as suggested. Why? If a 3-minute steep is sufficient for flavored teas, I don't know why a 5-minute steep wouldn't work for a flavored/herbal chai. Of course, I steep my chai for the same length of time whether full caffeine or decaf.
This tea is great with good flavor and aroma as a hot tea but only good (a bit heavy on spices) as an iced tea.
One of the most balanced chai blends I have found, and love that I can purchase it in loose leaf! Absolutely love this throughout the day, especially since I'm sensitive to caffeine and can't have more than 1 cup of black tea a day.
Honestly perfect! Can’t have anything with high caffeine anymore due to acid reflux so this decaf Chai was perfect. Add some milk, sugar and cinnamon and it taste like a cozy hug on a cold winter day.
Great chai tea. Wouldn't know it was decaf by the flavor. It is our go to chai.
I love a cup of chai in the evening and this tea allows me to do that without the caffeine.
Mellow, not quite as spicy as regular masala chai. Yum!
I love this tea so much it's unreal. I can't have caffeine for medical reasons, so I'm a fan for obvious reasons. It's so spicy! Just how I like it. I make large batches of chai latte and keep it in my fridge, perfect for the summer heat.
Nothing inherently wrong with this chai, but I personally prefer a little more 'balanced' chai that has a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. This is more on the spicy/bolder side. Mixed with a sweeter chai and a little non-dairy creamer, I can still enjoy it.
Great flavor and taste! I enjoy this both hot and cold and enjoy adding to coffee too.
I love this tea so much and have been on the edge of my seat waiting for it to come off of backorder. It hits all the notes you want from a chai, but without the caffeine, making it a perfect end of the evening treat.
Can enjoy this any time. Has a nice spicy zip to it, even though it is decaf.
My favorite “traditional” decaf chai. Punch it up a notch by sweetening with homemade chai syrup.
