UPDATED: Still good! Doesn't require much sweetener, honestly. I normally drink my teas without milk, but I did add a hefty pour of milk this time. Yeah... there's a reason they tell you to drink chai with milk in it. Better than a Starbucks chai latte for sure!
Original review:
Lovely spice notes - strong, but not too overpowering. I don't add sweetener to my teas, but this one could benefit from a touch.

A nice and pleasant introductory chai tea that is very well balanced. Ginger and clove stick out, but so easy to drink.

As far as chai teas go, this is a nice one. Chais are not generally to my taste however. I had it without milk or sweetener.

This is a very well-balanced cup of tea. The clove doesn't numb your mouth and you can't feel the ginger in the back of your throat but it is nice and spicy. I definitely preferred the longer 10 min steep to bring out the tea leaves along with the spice.
Chai is not my favorite as I don't love teas that need sweetener and milk which is the only reason this is a 4-star.

In the bag: Plenty of flavoring ingredients here. Several clove buds. Many pieces and strands of ginger. I see some cardamom seeds and a few bits of cinnamon bark. All atop a healthy layer of brittle black ceylon leaves.
On the nose (pre-steep): Yep, that's a chai! Classic blend of dark, warming spices. I detect cinnamon, ginger, and clove. The barest sweet undertone.
On the nose (post-steep): The blend of aromas from before the steep made it here but has relaxed a bit. Now, the scent of unsweetened cocoa is coming in from the ceylon. The two forces balance each other.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): A stronger pepper zing than expected. The spices have replaced the sweet tone from pre-steep with a savory one. Still an even balance between spice and ceylon.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): The cinnamon and ginger are livelier. No other changes.
Opinion: A tasty, zingy tea. The taste is just a tad too peppery for me. Beyond that, however, I enjoyed the balanced flavors that make this blend an easy but interesting sipper.
Preparation: First steep 7 min, second steep 14 min. Both 212 ? ℉, 1⁄2 tsp monk fruit sweetener

This chai tea is perfectly balanced and flavorful. Another reviewer noticed that cardamom is one of the predominant spices and that is probably why I like it so much. It definitely needs to be brewed with 2 heaping teaspoons in just 8 ounces of water. I will add this to my list of favorites.
Update 2/24/22 Masala Chai is absolutely delicious. I am ordering some and think it would blend nicely with Samurai Mate. I steeped for the full 10 minutes and hope there’s still enough flavor for a second steep. I tasted more ginger, pepper flavor than last time I tried it.

Masala chai... sigh
It just warms my heart and soul
It's a warm cuddle
It helps me to dream
Cuddles and snuggles with pets
While I read and sip
The sky may be dark
The weather may be chilly
None of this is bad
I'm in a cocoon
All cozy, comfy and set
It's my happy place

Old Review: ,This is THE tea that I received as a sample with my first adagio order. I though it was black, made it, then as I sipped I realized it was so much more! I now adore masala chai, but avoid caffeine, so it is a sometimes treat!

UPDATE FOR CT 2-15-23
This tea remains a favorite for me. Nothing beats a good Masala chai.
****************************
Recommended Steep 7-10 minutes @ 212*F
This is exciting! Another chai! Yay! I love a good Masala chai and can’t wait to see how this one lives up to my expectations.
It smells very spicy, almost autumnal upon opening the packet. That’s a very good sign. A lot of my favorite teas are what I think of as autumnal teas. Visually, all the ingredients appear to be present. So far, so good.
I steeped the tea for 9 minutes at 200*F in 12 oz of water and sweetened with 2 tsp of tea sugar. This tea did not disappoint in any way. It smelled wonderful while steeping and tasted even better. I think I can even pull back on the sugar in the next cup. Once again, Masala chai does not disappoint. I am a fan and will definitely have to keep this blend in my stash.

UPDATED from 2/24/22: There is a strong ginger, cinnamon, and clove smell overwhelming my sinuses as the CommuniTEA packet opens. I have a larger bag of this spicy tea, so I am able to put the correct amount (2 heaping teaspoons) in my infuser. After brewing, the liquid is a cloudy amber. The ginger, cinnamon, clove, and cardamom are a powerful combination, and a true delight to taste. They combine well with the ceylon to create a warm, zinging tea that is not only delicious plain, but also holds up well to additions. Adding ¼ teaspoon of sweetener (to 10 oz) and some heavy whipping cream makes the entire taste creamier. This is a wonderful tea that warms the body as well as the heart and steeps well twice. (10 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener and cream).

Perfect chai for making a latte! The spices shine through the milk well. If you like a strong chai you will like this tea. No bitterness in my cup and I had enough clove and ginger for a strong chai tea latte in my CT packet. 10 minutes @ 212.

Unfortunately one of the weakest chais I've tried. :( Just not a lot of substance there! Probably best mixed into other blends.

This is a very strong Masala Chai that will no doubt shine with its strong and spicy aroma. It's not as subdued as Chai tea you can get elsewhere

A good solid chai- all the spices blend evenly. I don't feel it's too heavy on any of the spices, it's well-rounded. Lovely blended with other teas too!

Ok, kind of weak flavor, I like a more spicy chai, not peppery, more cinnamon and ginger in the flavor. Wouldn't buy it again

terrible quality control. an initial 4 oz pkg was fine but the full pound was a nasty overly gingered melange.

A strong Masala flavor but not the best one I have ever had. This is one of my favorite flavor profiles in the world though so I have an expectation that it will really knock my socks off.

This tea is a very solid classic chai, great with some almond milk and a little bit of sweetener. One star knocked because it's not so great to drink plain (which is how I prefer my teas).

Not quite as strong as I would have liked. No matter how long or how hot I steeped it, I couldn't get quite as much flavor as I wanted. But it wasn't bad, just kind of okay.

This was the first chai tea I've ever had and it was a nice introduction to chai teas as it wasn't an overwhemingly spice tea. There was enough spice to taste and made a pleasant tea and one of my favorites when I want just a touch of spice.

UPDATE: I was MASSIVELY disappointed in the larger bag of tea--it looks like sawdust and steeps a SUPER DUSTY tea after the tea is lifted. SUPER disappointed in the quality decline and a refusal to allow a return bc I didnt have the original packaging (I pour tea into air tight containers and didnt realize how massively the quality of the taste and texture of the tea would be until after I stored it). Buyer beware. But the smaller packaging or check the bag ASAP and return if it looks like the inside of a Lipton tea bag. The first, smaller, order had whole cloves and large, beautiful pieces...really wish it was consistent and really wish they would stand behind their product. I really love this chai. I add in some cinnamon, cardamon, ginger, and sometimes clove or star anise to amp up the spice. serve it hot with a little raw sugar and oat creamer and you have a wonderful cup of caffeine--for a coffee lover this is a yummy treat alternative to coffee every morning that doesnt upset the tummy

Masala Chai is my new favorite tea. It is nice to actually taste the tea with many teas being weak.

This sample package was in teabag form, and as I investigated through the high quality fabric bag, I was delighted to see all the bits and pieces that make up a good cuppa chai. Besides the black tea, there were cardamom seeds, little dried chunks of ginger and cinnamon and whole cloves. The aroma of the dried spices were delicious.
I prepared the tea as per the package. 5 minutes steeping for 212*F.
The nose was mild and inviting, and initially on the tongue, cloves stuck out of the mix. A teaspoon of honey tamed the overpowering cloves. Upon adding a few drops of half and half cream, all spices fell into place and created a nice blend. Even as it cooled, the blend was balanced and easy drinking.
As a tea sipper who loves to cook up my own spices and black tea leaves to create chai, I have developed a love of super strong spices in my chai. The Masala Chai from Adagio Teas is a lovely mild version of the homemade chai. I plan to play around with steeping the tea in hot milk or oat milk, as well as try different sweeteners with it. I also plan to try over steeping it or doubling up on the tea mix. I am giving this a 5 out of 5 stars because I think it meets all the requirements for a delightful cuppa. Mmmmmmm. Enjoy.

I like this chai. It’s substantial without being in-your-face. A long steep time really seems to bring out the different spice flavors. I drink it black, but I’m sure it’s even better with a little sweetener and cream.
★★★★★
Warmer and with a little more life and zip than the gallons of chai I drank on long train rides across India, but no complaints and it still transports me back there. The flavors skew a little darker too, so when I have the time, for sweetener I like to caramelize some sugar in a saucepan and then brew the tea, with milk, in with it. Even without that step it's still a very good blend.
