First off, despite what the package directions say, DO NOT steep this in boiling water. Mate should never be overheated like that. Now, with that out of the way...this tea was a very pleasant surprise to me. I love mate and I love chai, but I wasn t sure how well the two would go together. Surprise! They re a match made in heaven. In the bag, this doesn t smell like anything special, but once it s been steeped, it s a different story. This tea has a strong yet delicate fragrance

I was not sure What to expect from mate tea but I am glad I gave this a try. I like it a lot and would recommend it.

I was really hoping for more of a spice flavor with this tea, but it actually tasted more like a green with some spice. The aftertaste in it was somewhat 'peppery', but not like true chai flavor like I would have hoped for.

The description of this tea says it will quickly become a fireside favorite and I couldn t agree more. There s just a hint of something smoky.

This tea has a very rich flavor. It's great for a relaxing evening with friends

The earthiness of the mate in this blend really can't compete with the chai--it honestly barely registers on the palate. Instead, you get a mouthful of mostly cloves.

If you like cloves, maybe this tea is for you. If you're like me and you don't, well, I wouldn't recommend this one.

Its one redeeming quality is that it is quite good with milk. That goes for most any chai tea, though. I won't be ordering any more of this one.

This is a strong, nutty tea that is a favorite of my in-laws who had recently visited Brazil and enjoyed a variation of this tea there.

My boyfriend's favorite. Good blend of flavors, rock on (he says)

Definitely on the low-end of the spiciness spectrum as far as Adagio's mates go. That said, the lack of spice allows the earthy elements to shine through which makes for a nice subtle experience.

A nice and zingy way to start the day, very good with milk and sugar added.

DEFINITELY an eye-opener, full of caffeine and spice. I enjoyed this, but there wasn't much 'chai' about it. aggressively cinnamon, less clove than i'd hoped, and none of the roasty/earthy mate flavor comes through. i still enjoy it - it's not what i expected, but still good. i think it might be amazing if i added plenty of hot almond milk (i think the flavor would go better than dairy, soy, or coconut) and maybe a drizzle of honey. i also don't think it's suited to tea bags. i'll buy it again loose and try that method and report back.

I love this mate as my early morning wake-up. It’s a sit up, take notice, and get going Tea for busy lives. You can savor the deep delicious scent before taking your first wonderful sip.

I ve never tasted a Chai I didn t like! This is well-rounded without losing any spice intensity.

This is one of my favorite chais. Its got a slight kick to it but it s not overpowering. Definitely one I m going to repurchase!

Spicy yet subtle. The mate aspect of this tea makes it seem more mellow, but it still retains a wonderful spice blend and presence.

A really good chai that's light on cinnamon. Maybe a little bit too clove-y. Also a good hit of caffeine for the the morning.

I love chai in (almost) any form, but this just doesn t do it for me. Maybe it s the way the flavor of the mate blends with the spices, but this comes across as a bit scorched in flavor even though my water was less than 200 degrees. The flavor of the spices were muddied. All in all, not a win in my book. I ll stick to the Masala chai or the Thai chai.

A great spicy pick me up~ I prefer regular chai personally but when you need an extra boost this is good.

I really enjoyed this one, I used 2 teaspoons per cup because any less was too weak. If you re buying in bulk, you ll want to account for that.

I wasn't sure how the chai flavors would sit with the mate, but the effect is delightful. Spicy and with a nice kick.

I honestly couldn't tell a huge difference between this and Adagio's regular masala chai. It's cinnamon-y, clove-y, cardamom-y, and ginger-y, and I guess just a bit more highly caffeinated. It's not bad, but I'll stick with the mocha nut mate.

Love this tea. Just a bit of sweetener really brings out all the spices. It's a very flavorful. Great for breakfast.

I like to brew this Gaucho Mate Chai for guests and it always hits the spot. Muy bien.

The unique mate flavor pairs very well with the usual chai spices

Not as spicy as it smells. I was left a little disappointed on that front. It's a nice chai for people who love the smell and maybe don't want too much on the tongue.

Full flavor and very spicy. It has a bitter finish that has to be rounded with cream and honey.

Chai is my favorite and I enjoy most varieties but this is one of the few I cannot stomach and do not think I will finish.

This has to be one of my favorite tea I have sampled thus far. And has a wonderful spicy flavor it's warm and requires no sweetener or milk to leven in the flavor. Whether it is still excellent with milk or a little bit of sugar if that's your preference.

I prefer this over the Masala Chai. Got enough Chai spice but not too much caffeine.

I love the masala chai that Adagio offers so on a whim I decided to try this chai. Admittedly it took a few cups of it for it to grow on me.
Its a good late morning tea and is nice with a little milk and honey.

I am pretty disappointed with this tea. It tastes...sterile.. like a hospital.. I dont know how to explain it! I LOVE chai tea, and I usually like all versions, I haven't come across one i haven't liked.. until now ): I'm glad I only got a sample bag, I wont be re-ordering, it just wasn't for me.

Smells spicy and strong. I am very excited to try this.

It's a pretty standard chai. I liked it, and I can see the appeal of a chai mate. I'm not particular on if my tea is mate, white, etc unless I need to be mindful of my intake of caffeine. So, if you are looking for a chai mate, then you'll be pretty happy with this. As for me, I'll go for a stronger spice in my chai.

I'm not really a mate person, but this is the best mate I've tried. It's very warm and well spiced - the aniseed in it isn't too strong for my tastes - and the mate adds a little smokiness to the flavor, which makes it a very interesting tea - just different enough from a regular chai to set it apart, but normal enough that it's still distinctly a chai.

Great mixture of mate with chai flavors! Perfect for a burst of caffeine.

This tea surprised me. It has a very strong taste so it helps me to stay awake in the morning. I like the after taste, has a nice spicy taste.

I really enjoy this one! Spicy, with a lovely kick for my mornings.

I've been trying a few different mate teas, and of the three this was my least favorite. Didn't have enough chai flavor, but I still enjoyed it.

Super delicious chai and the mate makes it that much more special.

I combined this the white chai (brewed separately, at the appropriate temperatures). It was a delicious combination and perfect for winter.

I use this tea to motivate myself at work! The tastiness is amazing with the chai flavors. Grounded, smooth, and full bodied.

I can't make up my mind about this tea. I like it best when paired with other warm flavored teas, like chestnut or cinnamon. By itself it has a dusty quality that is not my favorite.
