This is certainly a good take on an old classic! The chocolate adds sweetness and richness to the well known spices but at the expense of the zing we've all come to expect from a chai. If you like your chai bold and brash (+1 point if you get the reference) then this may not be the tea for you. However, if you prefer a smoother, silkier cup then this is one you need to try.

The CommuniTEA packet smelled of chocolate and spices today. Steeping for 3 minutes at 212ºF created a burnt amber colored tea.

The ginger and cinnamon spices are very present in the foreground. This is followed by a mild chocolate flavor from the cacao nibs and chocolate chips. The finish is slightly spicy like ceylon cinnamon, and zesty ginger. Adding some half & half cream brings out more of the chocolate flavors, and adds a natural sweetness from the lactose. The spices mingle and mix in the cream, giving a pleasantly complex flavor. The only thing missing for my tastes is the cardamom pods. I'd probably steep this one a bit longer when adding cream so it would be a bit stronger. Overall this is a great chocolatey chai blend!

A really tasty chai experience, I think the chocolate flavor could be a little more pronounced and/or maybe there could be more cocoa nibs, but they do still add a subtle richness and sweetness to the otherwise lovely chai blend.

This tea is exactly what it says it is! All the flavors (cinnamon, ginger, chocolate) come through and are nicely balanced. The flavors aren't super strong, so if you want a strong hit of chocolate or very spicy chai, this probably isn't the tea for you, but if you want a mellower chai with chocolate in a supporting role it would be a good choice. With sugar and milk this makes a nice dessert tea.

Loved today’s chocolate chai with a bit of whipping cream to being out the chocolately goodness. The cinnamon brought out a bit of spiciness to the cup.

This is a very good chocolate and spice tea. The chocolate tones down some of the stronger cinnamon, clove and ginger flavors, but does not overwhelm the whole tea. This was really good hot with sugar and a splash of almond milk!

Does it Latte? YES! This made a wonderful latte! Nice and spicy that was not too diluted by the milk. Really nice with foamed milk and cocoa powder!

Very enjoyable aroma from the CommuniTea packet this morning. It's chai, but not real strong. Maybe mine lacked a bunch o chai spices? I did note the chocolate. Very tasty.

My CommuniTEA sample of this tea had a bit of a weak serving. I steeped it for 5.5 minutes with boiling water and it was too weak. I could taste that there's a chocolate flavor and savory spices. I've tried Chocolate Chai Pu Erh and had a similar result. I wish I'd remembered to use less water for this one. It seems like it would be good if steeped stronger, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars.

Very very good! Goes great with milk to mull down the chai spice a little.

★★★★☆

Not as chocolate-y or spicy as I expected, but still a nice cup of tea! I can definitely feel the ginger in the back of my throat, and there are some mild cocoa aromas. I would drink this by itself, but I feel like making a latte might dilute the flavor since it’s not very strong!

I'm not sure that I've ever had this tea before, but YUM! Where has it been all my life? The smell of the packet was divine. And the taste... chocolately and gingery cinnamony and full of YUM.

212 degrees for 5 minutes. I found this tea very well balanced. All flavors were represented in my cup with no particular spice dominating. A drop of milk enhanced the chocolate flavor. Overall, I enjoyed it, although I could have appreciated a bolder black tea base to carry the stronger spicy tastes.

This is a nice chai, however there isn't much chocolate. It might have just been the packet I received, but I think this tea would go from good to fantastic if it had just a bit more chocolate flavor.

I revived this in my March CommuniTEA box. This one was ok. I didn’t taste much chocolate but the chia spice was there. Overall I tasted ginger. The tea for me was alittle weak. Needed more black tea in it. Maybe it was just my sample I got but it seemed alittle light. Overall this was a solid chia tea if you like chia but I didn’t taste much chocolate so I wish that flavor was alittle more pronounced. Give it a try and make your own opinion though.

Oh, how I wish I had some milk or cream to add to this tea, today! It was a very nice, smooth chai blend, but it wasn't as strong in flavor as I was expecting. I could've used more chocolate, I think.

LOVE chai and LOVE LOVE LOVE chocolate. I find that many of Adagio's chocolate teas are lacking in chocolate (their flavoring agent isn't super strong for me) and that was the case for this one, but it's still a tasty, slightly chocolaty, spicy cup.

A very tasty blend of spices and chocolate that is good by itself or as a tea latte. It reminds me of the gingerbread cookies sold at Christmastime.

Yum!! This tea has everything spiciness, sweetness! This tea is so goid I steeped at 212 for 5 mins and it was not bitter. Tasted great plain but I added a dot of honey and a tablespoon of vegan creamer. Tastes heavenly. Taste like i visited a fancy teahouse and got an expensive latte. Yum!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this tea. First steep I added a splash of cream and it was delicious. Second time around I added some milk and and chilled it. That was even better.

This was very good, but I want a bit more chocolate flavor. I feel like the cinnamon and chai spices were much stronger than the chocolate. It was still a very good cup.

An enjoyable chai, while I prefer spicier. I would definitely drink it again. To boost the chocolate flavor, consider adding a few chocolate chips to the brew.

This was a wonderful cup of chocolatey chai! The spices and chocolate flavor was just right, perfectly balanced. Not too spicy, and not too chocolate forward! I added cream and sugar for a heavenly cup of bliss. This may become my go to chai blend.

The black tea, cinnamon, and ginger made for a good cup of chai. The chocolate flavor was a bit too mild, at least in my CommuniTEA packet, to really distinguish this as a 'chocolate' chai.

What a fun blend! Ginger, cinnamon, and chocolate- just throw in a little cayenne and one could have a Mexican hot chocolate. Okay, not quite, but it's very reminiscent of that. The spices come through strongly, while the chocolate lingers in the background offering a subtle sweetness. The chocolate is not overwhelming, but it is present. A longer second steep (about 9 minutes) offers stronger flavor than a short (~4 minute) first steep, but the chocolate still remains subtle. Like any chai, this blend takes milk and sugar well.

I love chai, but I'm iffy on chocolate. This is perfect, and crucially, it has just the right amount of cinnamon - not too much to overwhelm.

I have had some bad luck with some chai mixes that are so very cinnamon forward that it masks all the other flavors. Not this chai. I took a chance brewing at 200 for 3 minutes so that the cocoa nibs did not turn bitter, and to try to stave off any excessive cinnamon, and was successful. This isn't the boldest chai I've had, but it is nicely balanced with some chocolate sweetness that lends to the authentic sweetness of a masala chai. Tasted great black, and a second steep was a very mellow but still somewhat flavorful cup. I will need to revisit this tea when the weather gets cooler again.

I found this to have a weak chocolate flavor...mostly spice and very mellow. My CommuniTea sample was small and I only steeped 6 oz, so maybe it wasn't a good representation. Might be worth another try with a sample.

I'm hard to impress with chocolate flavored things. Teas that claim to be 'chocolate' usually taste like they once saw a chocolate bar. While I'd like the chocolate flavor to be a little stronger in this tea, it's pretty good.

The chocolate and chai balance nicely in this particular tea. I enjoyed the addition of milk to round out the flavors. This could quickly become a favorite. I’m getting more of the chocolate taste in Adagio’s blend than I do in other brands which is a particular treat.

I love chocolate, but the spices were too much for me. I might have oversteeped it, so that is why I'm being generous with the three star rating. I thought it was fine when it was hot, but an hour later while cooled off, I took a big sip and that was it. There are some chais I'm slowly starting to like as long as I don't overdo it. This is not one of them.

I not the biggest fan of black teas, but this one was a pleasant surprise! It wasn't bitter at all like a lot of black teas I've tried, and the other flavors came out equally and pefectly.

Enjoying with the ComuniTEA today: Lots of ginger and cinnamon detected from the dry ingredients and packet. At sight, there seems to be a lot of ginger pieces. When I steep the tea for 3 mins at 190° F (to minimize black tea tannins), I notice warm chocolate cinnamon/ginger notes from my cup. When I take a sip, lots of ginger without any bite, cinnamon and a hint of chocolate-cinnamon on the finish. As the cup cools the ginger becomes more pronounced and the finish and I start to get a little ginger bite on the back of my palate and throat. The chocolate seems to take a back seat a bit with this tea with very little black tea tannins (possibly due to steep duration and temperature). It is a good cup of tea.

I'm a fan of this tea. It smells amazing. The cinnamon, chocolate, and ginger all play together very well. I thought it was very weak and bland when I first brewed it but adding a sweetener allowed the flavors to really shine. The chocolate and base tea make a smooth brew and the ginger and cinnamon leave a nice bite of spice at the back of my throat.

I actually had today’s communiTea in my “small” 😉tea stash, and a review filed in my tea journal. As this tea steeped a beautiful, deep brown color fills my glass teapot, as a rich chai aroma floats around my kitchen. ((Inhale, hmmmm)) My original tasting found this tea - rich and chocolatey, hints of spicy and flavorful. I enjoyed it shaken with Oatly barista over ice. Today’s sample was good but I tasted more cinnamon and ginger, the chocolate lagged a bit behind in my cup, but still enjoyable. Funny a communiTea friend noted how interesting our reviews are when sampling communiTea packet vs actual tea blend. Hmmm, made me 🤔... I guess that’s why when I like a “blend”, yet see slightly different reviews I drop a sample bag in my cart. So please keep that in mind, and give “that tea” a another try if it peaked your interest (Lol, my tea stash has grown leaps and bounds, but in a delicious cuppa tea way. I now drink more than British breakfast, pu-erh blends and could never go back to store brought tea bags) Steeped 2tsp, 4mins @200F.

With nothing added this is a cinnamon and ginger predominat chai with a earthen roasted nut flavor from the coco. Not quite bitter but not what everyone would recognize as chocolate either. I found this good on it's own however if you are the sort of person that wants more of a chocolate experience and has a sweet tooth I would highly recommend adding a little cream and sugar.

Chai is my absolute favorite way to start the day. This was one of the first Adagio teas I tried when I became slightly obsessed last month. ;) It seems to be a weaker chai and not as spicy as I typically drink. I won't be straying from my favorite Masala Chai anytime soon but was a fun riff on a favorite to enjoy this morning.

This is a nice chai but the chocolate is subtle. I do get enough of a chocolate flavor to distinguish this tea from Masala chai. I’ve compared both with the help of the chai teas sampler. Today I made sure I brewed the tea strong enough since this recommends 2 heaping tsp per 8 oz, and I tend to make a 16 oz cup. I think I finally made it strong enough, and I added a bit of honey (about 3/4 tsp). Both of those things helped bring out the chocolate. I steeped 3 min @ 212F since that was recommended on the larger bag, even though the CommuniTea packet says 3-5 min (which makes me default to 4 min). I think that shorter time helped avoid bitterness. So far this was the best cup of this tea I’ve been able to prepare, using the above conditions. Least bitter, most chocolatey.

It was fine. Like all of Adagio chai's, it was very cinnamon forward, though not as heavy handed as most. I also didn't taste any chocolate, so it wasn't special in any way and tasted like a regular chai. Plain, it was kind of dull. Foamed milk gave it a bit of body, but it still seemed bland. Adding a 1/4 tsp of sugar finally brought things together enough to give it some life. Overall, I would drink it if someone handed it to me, but I wouldn't seek it out. When I opened the Communitea packet, as always didn't look up what the tea was before brewing, I was really excited because you could really smell the ginger and a little cinnamon mixed with something I couldn't identify- it didn't smell strongly enough of chai for me to pin that down but once I saw what the tea was, it made sense.

Steeped it at 212deg for 4 minutes as indicated, since usually I prefer lower steep times for black teas, but I was using a larger mug. I think next time I would steep it just slightly longer, but being careful to not oversteep.

I tend to prefer really spicy chais- and this is not one of those. But, this is still really delicious. I added some sugar (about 1/2-3/4 tsp) and a splash of coconut milk, my usual for drinking chai. The flavors are all muted to me, with the ginger being most prominent, but the subtlety of them allows even the flavors that come on less strong to be tasted. The warm gingery chai with the undertones of chocolate is really really nice.

The way this would have been 5 stars for me would be if the chocolate flavor were a little more prominent, as it's labeled as a chocolate chai.
