Years ago, I tried a chocolate chai tea at a restaurant in Las Vegas. I've been on the lookout for something similar ever since then. This is the closest I have found. I added a little bit of milk, and it was delicious!
Exotic Masala Chai flavors from India paired with dark chocolate. Soothing cocoa, zesty warmth, seamless texture.

Mmmmm. Chocolate. Chai. Two of my favourite things. I tend to enjoy strong, full flavour teas, and with over steeping, adding a bit of honey and a few drops of half and half cream, it was a delightedly treat.
Chocolate and cinnamon weren't a combo I thought would work together, but I love this tea. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
LOVE this tea! I add a tiny bit of cream and sugar and it's perfect!
I usually love chocolate chai, but for some reason this one just tasted off to me personally. Not sure why, but I'm sure anyone else who loves chocolate chai could fall in love with this one.
Delicious dessert-like chai. Not too heavy but full of flavor. This will definitely stay in my chai tea rotation.
I’m a chocolate lover and the combo with chi is wonderful it has the distinct chi flavor and with a touch of chocolate you can’t go wrong
Rich chocolatey flavor with a nice undercurrent of spice, doesn't need much sugar to get the right amount of sweetness
Per partner: It was okay! Not overwhelmingly chocolately, just kind of gives it a deeper flavor.
A very nice blend if you are looking for something a little different. The chocolate flavor is not overwhelming but a nice addition.
I like chai flavor. But when I order at some cafe.. it’s too high calories.. so I am glad to have chai cent with low calories at home.
Bold, Fun and simply delicious! Added a bit of almond milk for a tasty brew. Certainly a new favorite for me.
Was not a biggest fan, but would still recommend! It’s hard for me to find a good chai that I really like but this one came close! The chocolate was a nice touch.
Love love love! Super yummy as a dirty chai with a bit of cream
When I opened the bag and smelled it… mmm, heaven… the taste is an undernote of chocolate with spices. It makes the chai a little smoother. Nice cup after dinner…
When plain I could detect subtle chai spices, but once cream and sweetener added, all that came through was chocolate. I wish there was more masala spice and/or less chocolate flavor. It’s an okay tea though if you’re looking for a hot chocolate type drink.
the chai spices and chocolate go very well together, would be super great as a latte
I enjoyed this tea immensely even though there are other blends I prefer to keep in my stash. I am happy that I have a sample of it from the Chai Teas Sampler I just bought. I steeped at 200 degrees for 4 minutes and added rock sugar and a teaspoon of cream. I got a good second steep as well!
This is a great tea, I enjoy this tea warm and spice and chocolate. Do you licious☕️🫖❤️
A cinnamon and ginger forward Chai with a hint of chocolate. It's a good afternoon tea.
This is a very nice tea. It is a little more chocolaty than chai-y, though—the flavor is quite mild. That’s a good thing to me—I don’t like a lot of spice—but I thought the second cup that had sat steeping on my counter for half an hour because I got distracted was better than the one I poured up after 5 minutes. I actually really liked the room temperature flavor, too, so that’s a bonus.
Chocolate and spice? What’s not to love? This is really delicious
The blend of spice and chocolate is super tasty and really well balanced. I like it hot or cold!
Warm, spicy, and cozy. Smells delicious and great with milk!
Enjoying this one quite a bit. Very chocolate-y and nice, warm spices
I love the strong cinnamon flavor. It's the main flavor. This tea mixes well with many others which is how I prefer to have it.
This tea was steeped IN 8 oz of water at 190°F for 3 minutes and was sweetened with 1 tsp of tea sugar and 1 tsp whipped chocolate honey. 3 oz of warmed vanilla almond milk was added to the tea after steeping. A 12 oz Adagio Advent mug was used. I don’t generally like chai tea and was concerned that l would not enjoy today’s tea because of my general dislike of such teas. I actually found the tea to have a lovely chocolatey and creamy flavor. The tea became sweeter and even more enjoyable as it cooled. The chai flavor is mitigated by both the vanilla almond milk and the whipped chocolate honey. This was a 5 star tea for me.
CommuniTea Review - some good spice and chocolate flavors. Would try again to see what I think.
This is a very nice and cozy drink. I liked the fact that the spices weren’t too strong for me. The only thing I would change is to add more chocolate to it. The next time I have it, I might try adding some chocolate tea and/or some cocoa nibs.
Chocolate and chai? Two of my favourite things together? Honestly. What's not to love? It was super-tasty, very smooth, and not overly spiced. I didn't feel the need to add milk/cream, though it undoubtedly would have been delicious that way as well.
A tasty chai with a chocolate twist! This is a well-balanced blend, with chocolate as a prominent, but not overwhelming, flavor amongst many. It does make me want to try adding Masala chai spices to a super-chocolatey Adagio tea, like Chocolate Truffle, to see what would happen!
drank with milk and sugar, which overpowered it too much. I don't think communitea comes with enough tea for adds. need to use less water maybe.
Is this a mellow chai or a spicy chocolate tea? Both the chai spices and chocolate flavors were present in my packet with the chocolate flavors being dominant. The aroma upon opening the packet was not very enjoyable but the liquor it produced certainly was. This one's going on my wishlist. Indulged with the CommuniTea on 12/08/2022.
I believe I finally found a chai tea that I am willing to drink again. I usually find chai spices to be aggressive on my palate. This diminishes my enjoyment of a tea blend. The chocolate flavor mellowed the chai spices and the blend was like eating a spiced piece of chocolate.
This was like a mild spicy hot chocolate. It wasn't as chocolatey as i would have liked or as spicy. But still good. I bet the chocolate or cinnamon honey would have amped this up a bit. Maybe next time that's how I will try it.
I have had this tea before but just getting around to review it. I love a good spicy Chai tea. Adding chocolate to it, makes it even better. The chocolate mellows out the spice. Very enjoyable blend !
CommuniTEA portion: 195 steep for 3 minutes. Wow, lovely chai spices with a deep chocolate note. This has chai latte next level written all over it. Fun!
This is a delicious chai with an earthy flavor. Really enjoyable on a cold winter morning!
UPDATED from 3/25/21: There are cinnamon and chocolate flavors wafting up from the CommuniTEA packet, and this steeps (at a slightly lower temp than recommended) into a cloudy rusty orange. The flavor is amazingly cinnamon/ginger and dark chocolate! Not one upstages the other, but they work in unison. I am amazed that they keep up with each other, even as the tea cools. I like spicy teas, and I love chocolate flavored teas, but this - well, this is truly a new delight! Bravo to the blender to find the perfect ratio to allow all these flavors to shine separately in the spotlight, first there is the taste of cinnamon/ginger, then the dark chocolate takes over and lingers into the finish. Close my eyes as I sip, and each distinct flavor fills me with joy. This steeps well a second time, so I add ¼ teaspoon of sweetener (to 12 oz) and what a divine cup of tea! I will have to purchase, so I can try adding cream next time. (3 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener).
Yummy! Not a chai fan, but this was pretty good. Taste = just a little spice and chocolate. Perfect combo/ratio.
This tastes like a Masala Chai with a slight cocoa flavor. I am not much of a Chai fan so this was not a big hit for me but it was a nice Chai. Mostly cinnamon with a bit of ginger.
Loads of chai spices, cinnamon, clove as well as a happy blend of chocolate. Very tasty and better than other companies' similar tea. Nice tea if in the mood for a chai.
In the packet, I smell a bit of chocolate, but mostly ginger and cinnamon - not too many cocoa nibs in mine. I wasn't going for a whole traditional chai brew (tea brewed in milk and water), so I just overbrewed the tea a bit at 205 for 5 minutes.
I first sipped it black and noted mostly cinnamon flavors with a hint of ginger, and once I added my milk with a bit of sugar, it was about the same. I don't taste much chocolate, and it seems more like a less spiced, 'toned-down' version of Adagio's regular masala chai. I would definitely stick with the classic rather than this, and simply add a little cocoa powder or chocolate syrup if I wanted a 'chocolate version.'
This was a decent chai. It was just a bit to sweet for my personal taste.
I’m not really getting a lot of chai with this blend. It is really mellow on the spice and the chocolate is also very muted. It’s an easy drinking brew, but I probably wouldn’t know it was a chai if you didn’t tell me. Maybe I would like this one more if the flavors were amped up. I added sweetener but that didn’t pull any more flavors forward. Overall, I would place this in my “meh” category. Happy Sipping!
In the bag: Plenty of ginger bits and cinnamon pieces bring yellow and burnt orange to Ceylon's black. A few good-sized cocoa nibs. The color palette looks like a chocolate chai should.
On the nose (pre-steep): Well balanced among all three flavors: chocolate, ginger, cinnamon. Medium intensity. Clean texture.
On the nose (post-steep): An even balance of cinnamon and chocolate is center stage. I don't get much ginger, if any. Weak overall.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Ceylon is the leading actor here. Almost no additive flavors. Cinnamon is very weak but present. I get some chocolate, but the Ceylon brings its own bitter chocolate note so it might just be that.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): Chocolate is making a comeback. Still very little cinnamon or ginger.
Opinion: A pleasant tea with interesting flavors once I added the monk fruit. It smells like chai, but on the tongue it's more chocolate than chai. I would have enjoyed it more had the additives survived the steep.
Preparation: 4 min @ 195 ℉, ½ tsp monk fruit sweetener
I have had chocolate chai in some other blends and really enjoyed it. This morning, I added a splash of egg nog, my new holiday tea time experiment, and it turns the tea into a decadent treat. The spices all blend together into something quite unique and the chocolate is not overly sweet or bitter.
This tea smelled of ginger and chocolate right out of the packet. Once brewed, the chocolate scent receded a bit, but the smooth, rich flavor is still there. The cinnamon, ginger, and chocolate complement each other very well for a very satisfying cup of tea.
HIghly suggest this one with a bit of milk or cream!
Chocolate Chai
Suggested steeping directions: 3 minutes at 212°F I steeped this tea for 3 minutes at 190°F to stave off potential bitterness, in approximately 11 oz of water with 1 tsp of rock/tea sugar and 1 tsp of Adagio whipped chocolate honey. I also added about 1 oz of warmed vanilla almond milk.
Upon opening there was a faint aroma that I could not quite identify.
At first I thought this tea was going to be a little weak, maybe given the small amount of leaves in the CommuniTEA packet and my tendency to use too much water, but it was still a very balanced blend, that I felt might benefit from a different tea to water ratio. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that as the tea cooled, the flavors really intensified. The last few sips were very chocolate-y, satisfying even my sweet tooth without being cloying or over-sweet. The re-steep tasted just as good, if not better. This is a 5 star tea in my book and I think I must always have some on hand.
