unsure why, but this just wasn’t for me. i made it as i do all other chais, but i think my packet was just a bit spice heavy
Lots of beautiful flavors make for a powerful, and yet somehow subtle, cup. Caffeine content is an added bonus!
I enjoyed this chai better than the regular chocolate chai. If you want to relax and give your tastebuds a treat then, just stop right now and make some of this wonderful chai tea.
Nice earthy light spicy chocolate flavor. I tried warm milk and sweetener to make this a delicious treat.
This is an earthy and well balanced chocolatey chai. I like it with a splash of oat milk.
If you enjoy the taste of pu'erh tea, this adds a fantastic zing of chai and a light but noticable chocolate and cinnamon undercurrent.
The puerh base is smooth and earthy. Cinnamon and ginger are prominent. I was surprised at how much chocolate I could taste—I think this would be great for satisfying a chocolate craving!
While the chocolate and Pu-erh are both quite timid in this blend the spice forwardness is commanding. I was able to re-steep this communiTea portion x3 with good returns on the spice flavors; however the pu-erh never quite came to the forefront for me. I give this 4 stars just because the spice is so great compared to some other anemic 'chai' blends. If you're buying this because you love Pu-erh Chorange you're likely to be disappointed. If you love ginger and mystery however, this is your tea.
Well I didn’t think I was going to like this one. The initial smell was too earthy for me and the first sip sorta bitter. But after letting it cool some the cinnamon chocolate took over and I enjoyed the rest of my cup. I did sweeten it but I do almost all of my teas.
This tea had the earthiness of the pu-erh, mixed in with the chai spices. The chocolate flavor was faint, but present. I would have given this 5 stars if the chocolate flavor was more pronounced.
This is a delicious blend! I love the spice flavors that came through. I wouldn’t mind a little more of a chocolate flavor, whether that is the addition of some plain chocolate tea or the use of some of Adagio’s whipped chocolate honey ice heard so much about!
I love puerh tea, and I love chai spices, so I expected to love this blend. Upon opening it, the spices smelled a little mild to me. I added extra cinnamon, ginger, clove, cocoa nibs and a couple pieces of rock sugar. I liked it well enough, but it still seemed like there was something missing. It was good, but if I want chai, I’d pick from one of the handful in my cabinet that are outstanding. Same goes for the puerh, I have others in my cabinet that I like better. I definitely wouldn’t turn this down if offered though. I brewed this at 190° for 8 minutes.
This tea is perfect for a fall day. Added some sugar and honey and milk and it was perfect. Its literally fall in a cup
This is a wonderful pu-erh that has a strong spice flavor and more subtle chocolate flavors. Would recommend if you love chai and pu-erh and want a blend of that!
Spicy teas are hit-or-miss for me. This had a nice blend of spices with a hint or chocolate.
Chai spices are not really my cup of tea. I usually prefer spices to subtly enhance the flavor of a food or beverage. The cocoa nibs and chocolate toned down the most assertive nature of the chai spices in this blend, however I still felt like all I tasted were the spices and chocolate, I couldn’t find the tea taste. The chocolate flavor saved me from giving this blend a lower rating. If you like bold spice flavor, then this is definitely worth trying.
I am usually not a chai fan but this was a great blend with just a little spice and alot chocolate.
CommuniTEA portion: 195 steep for 5 minutes. Nice chai aroma upon opening the packet. I am a chai fan but this one was a bit heavy on some of the spices for me as they didn't round out the tea. I did get notes of chocolate but it just didn't gel with the pu-ehr for me. Maybe next time with a little honey? Fun adventure though!
A nice chocolate and chai tea with some earthy flavors from the pu-erh! I think the chocolate is a bit more subtle here than in other teas, but I think it works better since it can be cloying/has a tendency to overpower sometimes.
This tea is delicious and comforting. Mostly chocolate and cinnamon enveloped by the deep flavors of pu-erh. The other spices play a supporting role. I wouldn't call this a chai, as the spices are not pronounced. It was delicious black and took sugar well, but milk muted the flavors too much for me. No bitterness or astringency. A second steep lost the pu-erh richness and was heavy on the clove, so I'll stick with just a single steep next time. This tea is really satisfying and tasty, I look forward to having it again! 5 min @ 200
Absolutely delicious. My packet was earthy and spicy smelling - not heavy on the chocolate. When steeped, it smelled like a delicious chai but still light on chocolate. I adore chocolate but I didn’t need it to love this blend. Wishlist.
This tea was a bit lighter than I thought with the pu erh base. The spices and chocolate were light as well, but well balanced. If I were to try this again, I would steep it longer to see if I got more flavor.
Generally not a fan on Chai because I hate cloves. Gave the Chocolate Chai Pu-erh a chance this morning and LOVED it! The chocolate seemed to tone down the bitterness I always taste from the cloves. I'll probably be buying more of this one.
One reason dishes from warm areas nearer the equator tend to be spicy and/or heavily seasoned (Indian, Thai, Mexican, Caribbean) is because the heat would mask pungent or offensive flavors from food that was beginning to spoil. Prior to refrigeration, food didn't keep as long in these areas. To some extent, that seems to be what's happening in this pu-erh chai. The spices dominate the cup and help conceal any fishy/earthy/otherwise offensive odors and flavors from the fermented tea. Chocolate notes add a subtle sweetness and are enhanced by the addition of sweetener (or chocolate honey, in my case). As spiced tea goes, this blend is done well. None of the spices stand out from another, and the smooth pu-erh base and sweet cocoa notes keep the bite from the cloves at bay. In that respect, this makes a smoother chai than some of Adagio's other offerings. Adding milk also helps to smooth the flavors, making for a lovely warming, comforting cup on a cool morning. Though it holds up for a second steep, the chocolate flavor seems less pronounced and the clove seems to offer more of a kick, but that can still be tamed with milk. If one is looking for a good chai tea, this blend is a great option; if one is looking for something more reflective of traditional pu-erh, pass this one by. All the pu-erh seems to contribute is a smooth base since some of its distinctive flavors are overwhelmed by the spices. That said, I really enjoyed how smooth this take on chai was, especially compared to some of Adagio’s other chai offerings. (4-5 minutes @ 212F)
This is a good chai tea, but the chocolate and pu-erh gets a bit overwhelmed. It’s helped with a bit of chocolate honey, though.
2022-09-26 Update:
Delicious scents of Chai spices emanated out of the packet. A 5 minute steep at 212°F created a medium golden-brown tea. This time, I spied a few chocolate chips alongside the cocoa nibs and cloves.
The chocolate flavor was balanced alongside ginger, clove and cinnamon. Adding some cream tamed the spices and made for a delicious chocolatey chai.
Still a good chai blend chocolatey flavor. Some chocolate chips were found this time, enough to make the tea slightly cloudy and adding a bit more chocolate.
2021-02-21 CommuniTEA Review:
Today’s CommuniTEA packet smelled like spicy cinnamon, ginger, chocolate and other chai spices. There were many ginger inclusions, and pu’ehr tea, but no chocolate chips to be found.
Steeped as a black tea for 5 mins at 212°F made a spicy chai brew that still smelled like chocolate. The first sip was smooth with a bit of zing from the ginger and chai spices. The chocolate flavor blends well with the spices but doesn’t steal the show. This tea benefits greatly from cream, and it opens up more of the chocolate flavor, while smoothing out the spicy kick of the ginger a bit.
Overall a good chai blend with some chocolatey notes to it. It might be even better with the chocolate chips, but sadly my packet didn’t have any.
A good tea. I get both the chocolate and the chai as promised. Not anything I would pick up on a regular basis but I do like the chai taste.
Silky chocolate and smooth, grounded pu-ehr are a perfect pairing, but chai spice is barely there. This is a cup of chocolate pu-ehr with just a glimmer of ginger and cinnamon. If that's your thing, I highly recommend - but I think the chai flavor could be stronger!
Steeped for 8 minutes @ 180°. This is a well balanced smooth chocolate chai. The pu erh really made for a deep smooth blend. My new favorite Chai blend, Yum!
Update: Sept. 26. 2022 CommuniTEA
I lowered the steeping temperature to 190°F, as opposed to my original steeping temperature (the first time I had the blend) and it is still an amazing tea. I think I will settle on a temperature of 200°F in the future. Wonderful chocolate and chai flavors. Once again this did not disappoint. 5 stars.
I tasted this as a sample from my daughter, and I loved it so much I purchased my own. It's one of my favorites.
Communitea update: still a great blend!
Pu-Erh lends a really earthy depth to this blend that I absolutely adore.
UPDATED from 2/21/21: Chocolate aroma drifts up from the open CommuniTEA packet. Mmmm - no fishy smell here, so I continue straight to steeping without a rinse. It steeps (at a slightly lower temp than recommended) into a cloudy amber color. As I raise the cup up, the ginger boldly hits my nose, luckily as I taste, the other spices come forward together as an intro. I like pu-erh tea, the earthiness makes it full bodied and rich plus a perfect stage for this tea. I add ¼ teaspoon of sweetener (to 10 oz) and for the next scene the dark chocolate steps downstage center. The finish is hot with the cinnamon, ginger and cardamom taking a bow at the end. For Act Two I add heavy whipping cream as well, and everyone now joins in sweetly like a well rehearsed ensemble. Just delightful. ( 5 mins @ 200ºF + sweetener and cream).
The aroma wafting out of the packet was an olfactory sensation. For me, the spices make the tea. The pu-erh does it's best to bind them together into a cohesive cup of tea.
This tea has a nice chocolatey flavour, although I would have loved to have a bit more in the way of spice in this tea
I like this tea quite a bit. Chai flavors were mild and the chocolate flavor was well done with the dark chocolate chips.
I get this tea pretty regularly. I am a fan of their chocolate teas. This is warm and cozy with a good amount of chocolate flavorone
The best of the best! This blend takes chocolate chai to a whole ‘nother level!
I like this tea, a lot. But I don't love it. It's just not quite my style. If you like chocolate and chai together, it's worth a try.
This was rather underwhelming for me. The chocolate flavor didn’t come through enough for me to appreciate and it lacked the depth of flavor I usually associate with a rich dark cocoa.
tastes like chocolate. If I used sweetener/cream could be tasty chocolate milk treat.
literally the best tea ive ever had its my new favorite :)
This is one of my new favorites! It has a rich smoky flavor with the chocolate chai that I love. I add a little sugar and cream for that rich smoky sweet flavor. It smells so good when you open the bag, they should make a candle out of it!
I love the earthiness and heartiness puerh imparts to blends so I love what it creates here with chai spices and chocolate. To me a black base can be really bitter. The solution? Use puerh! The spices here are at the perfect level. The zings really sing! The chocolate creates a richness on the back of the sip. This is not an overtly 'chocolately' tea, so look elsewhere if that flavor profile is your goal. Add some sweetener and yum. Add some milk or cream and you have a traditional chai cup with a twist. Happy Sipping!
I love drinking this with my mom, while watching British detective shows
This is now one of my new favorite teas. I savor it on the weekends or special days.
Delicious. The chocolate flavor pairs well with the classic chai spices. One of my favorites!
A favorite in my house. A smooth blend of warming spices and flavors.
I’ve been wanting to find a pu-erh that I actually like (others I’ve tried in the past haven’t really done it for me) and I think I finally have! The chai spices and the chocolate smooth out the natural earthiness of the pu-erh. I added some honey for a bit more sweetness and have definitely enjoyed the result!
The spice in this Pu-Erh Chai is perfect! Notes of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves are sweetened by the addition of chocolate. The use of pu-erh gave this cup of tea a pleasant depth of flavor. If you love chai, give this one a try, it is delicious! Sip, sip away!
Delictable. Absolutely love this tea. Earthy Pu-Erh sweet chocolate and the lite spice of cardamom. One of my morning favorites sometimes add a splash of cream for richer cup. 5 stars
