Golden Monkey - Jin Hou (金猴) - is one of China's most celebrated premium black teas, named for the golden-tipped leaves that are said to resemble monkey paws. Our full-leaf Golden Monkey originates from Fujian province and is hand-processed each spring with careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud - the labor-intensive harvest that produces the golden tips and exceptional quality that distinguish a true Jin Hou from lesser imitations sold under the same name.
This Golden Monkey is sweet and very "nosy": savory roasted apples, palm sugar, walnut, cocoa, rye, and spice notes that linger as you sip. Rich, coating texture and very smooth, soft mouthfeel - both hallmarks of quality Jin Hou. Virtually no astringency. Complex enough to reward multiple infusions - a real treat for any black tea lover ready to explore what Chinese black tea can be beyond the standard breakfast blend.

CAFFEINE
High
As a black tea, this has a fuller caffeine level, making it a good choice for morning or early afternoon. It is typically lower in caffeine than coffee.
STEEP
212° for 3-5 mins
Steep longer for a bolder cup, especially if adding milk.
Our teabags contain the same high-quality tea as our loose-tea offerings. Their pyramid shape gives the leaves plenty of room to unfurl and infuse, placing more flavor in each cup. Enjoy the superior flavor of gourmet tea with the convenience of a disposable bag.

Absolutely. The only way we drink it is to brew, cool, add ice and drink (we add alittle Splenda tho). You're not the only one. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
Yes it can. I use rhe Takeya 2 qt cold brew maker. 3 heaping tablespoons, then let it sit on the counter for about 4 hours shaking it up periodically. Then refrigerate with total brew time 24 hours.

Hello Mary! There is no actual rye in this tea. The flavor description gives the illusion of there being rye in the tea, but there isn't any physical rye. The only ingredient is black tea leaves.

Does this have flavoring added?

Hello Angela! If a tea does not have an ingredient section, the only ingredient is the tea leaves. This is the case for our delicious Golden Monkey!
