Earl Grey Moonlight was created by popular demand as a luxuriously creamy twist on a classic. We start with a bold Ceylon black tea base, add bright aromatic bergamot, then layer in vanilla and delicate crème - softening the citrus edge and creating a richer, smoother cup than any standard Earl Grey. The result is a beautifully balanced blend that tastes both familiar and indulgent: the bergamot you recognise, and the creaminess that turns it into something smooth and warming.
TEA TYPE
Black Tea
CAFFEINE
High
As a black tea, this has a fuller caffeine level, making it a good choice for morning or early afternoon. It is typically lower in caffeine than coffee.
STEEP
212° for 3-5 mins
Steep longer for a bolder cup, especially if adding milk.
Ingredients: black tea, orange, blue cornflowers, natural vanilla flavor, natural bergamot flavor & natural creme flavor

Questions And Answers

Ask a question about earl grey moonlight and have the Adagio Teas community offer feedback.

This might be a ridiculous question, but the 'natural creme flavor' makes this non-vegan, correct? This was my favorite black tea, but I've gone vegan so I think I'll have to find a different Earl Grey!

I just brewed the first cup from a new bag (received 4/2017), and... it's different. It's got a coconut flavor, I think? Something like that. This has been my daily tea for years now, and this batch is not the same as usual. Has anyone else noticed this?

Might you have accidentally gotten the Earl Grey Bella Luna instead of the Moonlight? You should be able to see the difference, in that the former has pieces of coconut in it, while the latter has the small bits of orange peel.
on
That happened to me too!! (thought I was crazy for a minute there). They replaced it for me; hope you had the same good customer service. I have always found Adagio c/s to be top notch!! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. (Considering the other response, I w

Seems to be a common mistake. I ordered the Bella Luna too!

I'm fairly new to tea, but every time I brew this is turns bitter. I like to steep mine 3 to 5 minutes, but am I steeping it too long? Is the temperature (212) too high? How can I keep it from becoming too bitter without adding sugar?

on

Adding a bit of milk will help with the bitterness. The tannins in tea are responsible for its astringency, but, if you add milk, the tannins will bind to the milk proteins, making the tea less bitter.
on
You may wish to try using slightly less tea, or shortening your steep time. Many black teas have the astringency you describe! Honey is the recommended sweetener should you wish!
on
The directions on the pouch actually say 2-3 minutes at 212. I steep mine for 3 and it's perfect.
on
Two minutes at 212 is perfect = )
on
You can steep black teas more than once and I find the second and third brews to be less astringent than the first, and much more palatable!
on
You can also perfume the tea a bit before hand. Let it sit in a small bit of brew water for ~20 seconds, pour that out then steep it. Helps wake up the leaves and I find it helps reduce the astringency.

How many steepings can you get with this for a 16-oz steeper. 2 teaspoons. We have just found this company and are trying to figure out the number of steepings compared to our old tea company.

I routinely use this tea twice. I have a 1.2 liter teapot, use 5 teaspoons of tea, steep 4 minutes the first time and 5 minutes the second. The two steeps taste the same to me.

Is there a way to find out how much caffeine is in one cup of this tea if brewed according to directions? I love strong black tea but have to watch my caffeine intake for health reasons.

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
Hi George - an 8oz serving of this tea will have about 60-75 mg of caffeine. For reference, the same serving size of black coffee contains 125-150mg.
on
Thank you for asking, George, and to Adagio Customer Support for answering! To add on to that, is there anywhere on the site where caffeine mg/8oz serving is listed for each blend? I'd love to be able to look this up for other teas as needed!

How much sugar and carbs would be in this tea?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hi Chris, thanks for your question. In a brewed cup of this tea, there would be no sugar at all, and net-zero carbs. Please <a href='mailto:info@adagio.com'>email us for more specifics!

What kind of black tea is used to make this Earl Grey, is it Ceylon?

on

Hello CC! Yes, it is Ceylon!

Will there ever be a decaf version of this? It's one of my favorites--it would be nice to be able to drink it any time of the day!

I don't understand how brewing a caffeinated tea as iced tea will do anything to the caffeine. Is it just me, or does this response not make sense to other people as well?
on
Pam, I agree--I have a pitcher, what I don't have is a decaf version of EG Moonlight...
on
Hello AK! While we don't have plans for it at this time, you can easily brew the loose version into a delicious iced tea in one of our pitchers!

Do we know if the farmers are using herbicides and pesticides on their farms which would seep into the tea leaves?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hello Lisa! Our teas comply not only with the US safety standards for pesticide use set by the FDA, but also the more stringent requirements set by the EU. We hope this may help resolve any reservations you might have about trying our teas.

Are the “natural flavors” completely natural or manmade?

Hello Britni! Our natural flavors are derived from nature. These are completely plant-derived and extracted from vanilla, cinnamon, or any of the other flavors present in our collection.

What is the ratio of water to tea? How many cups of tea can be made with a 16oz. container of tea? Thanks

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
According to the 16oz container, it's 12 cents a cup so divide 24 by 12 cents and I get 200. So ABout two hundred cups of tea. I think that the standard for a cup of tea is 8oz of water. I could be wrong on that.
on
Hello Dorothy! Becca's got it! All of our measurements are based on an 8 oz cup of tea.
on

Do you recommend milk or cream in this tea? I like to put cream in my tea to reduce tooth staining.

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hello Gwendolyn! We definitely enjoy some milk/cream in this tea over at Adagio. Feel free to add some!
on

Is there dairy in this? Im asking because of the natural cream flavor part.

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hello Emma! The cream flavor is made with completely plant-derived ingredients that mimic the aroma and taste without containing any actual milk ingredients.
on

How much does the sample contain?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hello Brandi! They contain enough tea to make about 10 cups of tea; 3g of tea per 8oz of water.
