Yes, I have sent back four out of five jars because the lids are terrible and not airtight.

Mine kind of seems a bit loose on the jar if I'm fiddling with it, but it seems perfectly airtight and serves its purpose when it's on the counter doing its job.

Can anybody tell me more about the lid? Is it glass on top or metal? (or rubber?) Can you write on it with a sharpie?

I use a label maker. Or, in a pinch, I cut the title of the tea from top the bag it ships in and tape that to the lid (it's kind of a perfect, ready made label).

The lids of these jars are stainless steel. You can technically write on it with sharpie if you want to, but it will likely rub off over time.
