I was originally going to make separate teas for the boys, but I had trouble coming up with multiple teas for each of them, so I decided to make a blend that symbolizes their relationship that allows me to do half of Edwin's tea and half of Charles's tea.
For Edwin, I had to choose Earl Grey, because what else would embody his old-fashioned British elegance? It’s also described as having “citrus notes”, which I think of as symbolizing his snarkiness. I wasn’t immediately sure what variety of Earl Grey to use, but when I saw the lavender option, I thought that was a good choice. I like emphasizing Edwin’s gentle side, and I think that does the trick.
For Charles, I immediately thought of Masala Chai, partially because he’s half Indian, but also because of his warm and fiery personality. The tea blend was described as warm and inviting, which correlates with his sweet, outgoing, friendly personality. But it also packs a punch, making it “the brawn” of teas, emphasizing his physicality. I think of him as strong and passionate, so hot and spicy suits him well.
Oh, as for the fonts on the tea tin, I chose Edwardian script for Edwin, of course. Charles was a little more difficult. I used his typewriter font from the comics as a reference point, but I chose one that was a little more rough around the edges, to give it a punky vibe.
