Ah, Marzipan ! A wonderful confection of ground almonds and sugar. Here, I have created a version in tea to pair with milk or cream to stand up to heavy weather. Sweeten to taste and you have a snootful of flavors mixing joyfully with each other.
The main body is almond tea with coconut added and 20% decaf spice to add a touch of flavor lift to the finish.
Do you enjoy iced coffee in warm weather ? Frisian Marzipan is also a great hot weather treat when made with cooler water, a long steep and cold milk.
This tea contains a high level of caffeine | Steep at 212° for 3 minutes.
My German grandparents always gifted me with little Marzipan fruits or a lucky pig or two when my January birthday rolled around. Well, they don't make a 'sugar free' marzipan and, now that I've aged a bit, I've searched for a way to treat myself to the flavor of marzipan I love minus the sugar. Almonds alone can be bitter and so it needs to be tempered with the cocoanut just a bit. I added the decaf spice to lower the overall caffeine content while adding a pinch of cinnamon which dances so well with milk. Most sweetners make this tea pefect (honey or stevia not recommended) but you may well find, as I do, that this tea is fine on it's own, standing up well on a chilly day or refreshing the senses during the heat of summer. I also created this tea for folks like me who are sensitive to spices and don't want their faces to flare up or their tummies to flip out while enjoying a much deserved cup of comfort. Enjoy !
