The eastern towhee (Pipilo erythrophthalmus) is a common, though sometimes secrative resident of the eastern United States. Often found rummaging about the underbrush and leaves in search of insects, they also supplement their diet with seeds and berries, and even the occasional small reptile. Their distinctive tri-colored markings and bright reddish-brown eyes make the towhee easily identifiable and a pleasure to spot.
