The painted bunting (Passerina ciris) can be found during the breeding season along the southeastern coast and southern midwest in the United States. Its vibrant triage of colors makes the male a pleasure to spot amongst the undergrowth, or high up in the trees as he sings his sweet song. Unfortunately, this flashy coat makes painted buntings a popular target for the pet market, and this combined with environmental factors has led to a decline in the population in recent years.
