Cheetahs are well known for their lightning speed and elegant physique. What many might not know, though, is that cheetahs have a timid nature and often flee from their prey if chased back or a more aggressive predator is around. Cheetahs are also the only big cat unable to roar, but they are also the only one that can purr like their domestic counterpart. While typically a more solitary species, cheetahs are still known to stick close to their family. Mothers tend to be very playful with their cubs as well as cubs with their siblings. The greatest risks to cheetah populations are habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation, human-wildlife conflict, and illegal wildlife trade.
