A cryptid I'm particularly fond of is the lake monster Hamlet. He gets his name from his home Lake Elsinore, a lake that is widely frequented, but also has a history of drying up completely in times of drought! Some people take this as a sign that he couldn't possibly exist, while others say he could swim back up the Jacinto river and come back when it's safe to swim in the lake again.
