Rooibos Customer Reviews

Rooibos, sometimes known as "Red Tea" (although not from the actual tea bush), is an herb that grows only in South Africa. Our rooibos is slightly fruity and smooth with a mild, herbal texture. Very forgiving - won't over-steep.

This is a delightful herbal tea that I make when it is closer to bedtime. It has no caffeine but has enough interesting notes, though a blend might be better as its a tad on the bland side. but with the base I can add what i want like a drop of vanilla.

I love this Rooibos! I just ordered more today and I’m looking forward to trying other Adagio Rooibos blends.

Tasty but leaves my mouth feeling dry.
Better with honey. I personally like the honeybush tea better.

I am spoiled by the variety of flavors offered by Adagio. I love the mild taste of the Rooibos. It makes wonderful iced with the added benefit of it being decaf.

Just a plain Rooibus, witch is ok with me becouse Rooibos has been a favorit of mine for awhile. It mixes well with the Moringa (wellness). Both are caffeine free and steep at the same time and temp. I add honey to most of my tea and this one to.

I liked this but I like the flavored Rooibos teas better. The tea is also very small and get through the holes in the strainer.

Medicinal but delicious this tea is exactly what you need on a cold night before bed! So much flavor and no caffeine

★★★☆☆

It has an earthy smell coming from the packet. Once brewed, the flavor is woody and nutty, with some mineral aftertaste. It's not my favorite by itself, but I love rooibos mixed with other flavors.

I first tried roobios tea from Adagio and I love them. I like earthy teas and roobios are just fantastic.

My teenage daughter is the Rooibos drinker in the house, and she said this was excellent.

Rooibos isn't my favorite... but I have to admit this is quality, and has potential. As far as Rooibos this is the best I've ever had.

I over steeped, and then forgot about my cup, and had to reheat 😹, but the flavor is subtlely sweet, nice and smooth. A great baselime tea

I’ve enjoyed Rooibos in blends but I’ve never had it plain. With so many mixed reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect of this tea. It has a nutty taste to me and I really enjoyed it. I brewed it at 200° for15 minutes.

I have tried this so many ways over the past three years, and I still can’t stand it. Red Rooibos is so medicinal. It brings back childhood memories of being made to swallow nasty cough syrup, which makes me gag. If this is in the background of a really good blend and well hidden, I can tolerate it, otherwise it’s a definite pass for me.

This one took some doctoring up to get it to my liking. Not something I would usually choose to drink.

This was my first time trying rooibos without anything added to it. I tried several sips. It was okay but I just couldn't enjoy drinking an entire cup of it.

I felt that this was very earthy and bland. The tea leaves are crushed very finely. A lot of the leaves will escape your strainer.

I like rooibos as a base with other flavors, but not by itself.

Red rooibos seems to be a bit of a polarizing tea. I enjoy it. This is the first time I've tried red rooibos by itself. Before I have always sipped it as part of a blend or with fruits, other flavors added. I knew I was going to enjoy this the minute I opened my CT packet -- that woodsy/earthy rooibos aroma is unmistakable! For me, it has a background scent (and taste) of slight menthol and a sweetness like dates (at least that's the best comparison I can come up with). I find Rooibos soothing, comforting and relaxing. Yum! :)

I enjoyed this tea with a little honey.. . Beautiful color. I enjoy with honey

Just a boring, very 'meh' herb by itself, it's ok as a base or add in for its health benefits, just not that great by itself.

I love rooibos so this was such a treat! It has a natural sweet flavor, with a hint of nuttiness. It is smooth and refreshing and a great base for blending!

I was a bit leery of trying plain Rooibos based on the polarizing effect it seems to have. That being said, I love it. It has a nutty, slightly sweet granola taste to me, which happens to be my favorite snack. I took Michelle M's suggestion and brewed it at 212 for 20 minutes. I added nothing to it. I will never be leery of it again.

Sorry--still a no. I get a bunch of chewing tobacco and the smell of an old hunting lodge. Red rooibos and I are still not friends.

Well, with the reviews I read, I was not looking forward to trying this tea. But I wanted to say that I've at least tried it.

I was pleasantly surprised. While not my favorite, it's not bad. It's hard to describe the flavor. Others have described it as 'woody', and I suppose that's about the closest I can come up with.

Yes, I’m one of those weirdos that love rooibos. It tastes warm and woodsy to me, with just a hint of something sweet like vanilla or caramel on the back end of the sip. I don’t get the “medicine” vibe others complain about and for that I am thankful as I have to limit my caffeine. Because I’m a caffeine weenie, rooibos is always in my pantry! I like it plain and I like it flavored; any which way is favored! Rooibos, you’re a winner in my book! Happy Sipping!

Plain rooibos is just not palatable. I love some of the flavored varieties like caramel rooibos or almond rooibos. I LOVE honey bush and green rooibos but plain red is not for me. I couldn't make it past the first sip.

Looks like, smells like, tastes like sawdust in a cup. I just can't get on board with red rooibos. I adore its cousins, green and honeybush, but sorry Red, you just don't do it for me. However, because it makes a good filler in other blends, I have added a star!

Rooibos is not for me, especially plain. I've sampled it a few times and just can't get into it.

16 oz, 4 mins @ 195 - blended with Henry Albero, Tiger Eye, and Cream Black Tea, added sweetener and cream.

The first time I had red rooibos by itself I was really turned off of it. However, I've learned I enjoy it in some blends and this blend is really good. So while I'm still hesitant on drinking it solo, I may eventually develop a real taste for it. Just not there yet.

Today's CommuniTEA receives a '3 star' from moi...as...Red Rooibos that stands alone, I feel, needs some supporting starring roles, in the scene..and maybe be a little less on the Red Rooibos standing out..and a little more on the other characters, shining! Teehehe! (Green Rooibos, much preferred.)

I adore nearly every rooibos blend that I drink. I think I’m spoiled on the fantastic mix of different flavors. The plain rooibos isn’t quite my cup of tea. But it is quality tea and if plain rooibos is your sort of thing, I’d recommend it.

Opening the packet I smell dried wood, in a pleasant way. This brews a dark amber and is smooth. Steep it longer for more flavor. I like it better cold plain. I do prefer green rooibos to red, and honeybush over rooibos. The flavored rooibos blends are better than the plain.

Rooibos just doesn't work for me, unfortunately. I've tried, but the flavor is somehow both dry and bland. I'll leave it to others.

It's fine. I liked the honeybush tea more, but this one was also okay. I might buy more of the flavored versions.

I mean, it's plain rooibos. It has the natural hint of vanilla sweetness that you'd expect and brews a nice red cup of tea. More often than not, it's a base for blending.

I love just about all of Adagio’s blends that include Rooibos tea. They are some of my favorites - especially Pecan Turtle and Nutcracker. I decided to try it plain. I like it very much. I thought I would miss the additional tastes but I didn’t need to worry. For me it’s a delicious cup of warm cozy. I hope others will give it a try too.

Smooth, warm, and earthy. Bought to experiment with blending and very happy with this purchase. It’s affordable as well, which I appreciate.

One of my favorite teas. I let boil for ten minutes to get a deep rich flavor. Add a bit of honey and cream. This tea is amazing.

It's good! I think this is the one time I prefer bagged tea, as the loose-leaf really clings to the steeper and is hard to knock out into the compost when done. The flavor, to me, is the same as bagged rooibos you can get at the grocery.

I added this to my regular order of black tea. Perhaps my tastes are too enamored with black tea. This one is just not for me.

★★★☆☆

My first trying this tea and it just isn't something my palate prefers. It's a pleasant, smooth, sweet tea, but I lean more towards floral greens and whites.

★★★★★

Great earthy flavored tea which gives me a nice warm feeling when drinking it. Smooth and no after taste. Great for a cold winter day to cheer you up.

I've only recently started drinking rooibos tea, for its properties that aid in metabolizing fat. It's a pleasant little tea, and it seems like its primary notes are in the aromas rather than in the 'raw' taste of it. It's definitely easy to drink, I've been through an entire ToasTEA thermos of it in about an hour. Will have fun playing around with different flavors, seems like a good base to build off of.

A friend recommended I try rooibos and I was pleasantly surprised. This was a very good tea and was very nice plain or with a dash of milk and brown sugar

I was very pleased with this red rooibos. Nice, and not overpowering. My go to evening tea. Very relaxing.
