Today's communiTea packet is pu-erh spice, with pu-erh tea, cinnamon, natural spice flavor, orange, ginger, aniseed and safflower. Pu-erh is still not my favorite tea, it's a little too earthy for me, I think, but given my predilection for chai, it makes sense that I'd prefer this to the others I've tried. I wish it was a bit more spice, and a bit less pu-erh, but not bad. 12 ounces of 200 degree water for a 15 second rinse to prime the tea and then a 3 minute steep.

I'm not a huge fan of pu' erh but the spices covers much of the fermented taste.

I really enjoyed this tea. It doesn’t get bitter, which is a huge plus for me, and has some nice spice flavor. I do feel that it could have been a bit spicier but it’s still quite good. I bet it would be great in blends. 🙂

The weather turned colder today so this was the perfect cup to warm me up. Rich and spicy in the warmest way.

My favorite tea type is pu-erh so I expected a good tasting tea. The orange and spices did not hurt it at all and gave me another great taste. I didn’t find even a hint of the anise mentioned and I really would have liked that but have to say it was great withoutot

A great spiced tea fitting for this season! The cinnamon and ginger pair together nicely, and a bit of milk helped add to the flavor!

Really enjoyed this tea! I steeped at 195°F x 4 minutes. The spice leans more toward the cinnamon, and doesn't overwhelm the tea. I didn't taste anise, and that was a minor disappointment. I liked the tea both unsweetened and slightly sweetened, hot and cool. A great fall tea that isn't too heavily spiced.

CommuniTEA Sample: A nice spiced, chai-ish Puerh that was really mind. Very little earthy flavor. I did put a splash of milk in it and it was even better.

I love the subtle earthiness of the pu-erh tea in this mix. The amount of spice is just enough to warm you up, without punching you in the face like a lot of chai blends tend to do. All around, a great tea for a lovely fall day!

A spicy orange tea that sips smoothly and I preferred warm. Great choice for the season and a lazy Saturday with a book. Brewed at 195 for 4 minutes.

This tea was better than I expected. I am not that well versed on pu-erh , so I am not sure if I am brewing it right. Rinse or don't rinse? I love fall spices and chai tea. This richness of the pu-erh really complimented the spices . The spices were light but flavorful. I brewed at 195 for 5 minutes and did not rinse.

delicious cup of spicy tea! Tastes like it smells in the bag. Slightly different from a chai, so worth getting a bag to change it up. definitely spicy through and through. Yum!

I cautiously did a small rinse of this tea, but found it was not really necessary. This tea did not actually taste very much like a pu ehr to me as i usually find them to be earthy, this one simply tasted like Christmas...The spices were so spot on for that Christmas aroma, it was uncanny! This was a nice tea, not strongly spiced enough to be called a chai, but very evocative of the winter season.

Even with a rinse, many pu-erh’s have too heavy a mineral taste for me. This one is a lovely exception! The spices balance better in this than many traditional chais and is a great fall choice!

Dry tea smells mostly of cinnamon and the earthy pu-erh. Once brewed, the resulting cup is a medium brown with a similar scent. When hot, the cinnamon is the strongest. When warm, the cinnamon mixes with the earthy pu-erh tea, with a hint of zest orange and a bit of ginger and anise zings in the finish. The spice notes are not as strong as a chai masala, but the cinnamon, ginger, and anise add a nice warm depth to the tea. I love the earthy tones of this tea, and the cinnamon plays nicely. I will be reordering more when I run out. Brewed for 3 minutes at 200

The fall spices work better with the pu-erh tea than most other pu-erh tea flavors I’ve tasted, but I’m not a huge fan of that earthy taste. I should mention I don’t like mushrooms either, so earthy tastes just aren’t my thing. Fall spices are though.

What a lovely blend. K drank the first cup as quick as I could and brewed a second immediately (longer steep). Drank both with sweetener and a splash of milk. Very similar to chai teas, which I adore, so I'm not surprised I enjoyed this tea.

I really did not like this. I dislike pu-erh and spice teas usually. This was a combination of those two dislikes. The maritime/mineral flavor of the pu-erh is rich and peaks out though the warm spice flavors.

This tea is just what I needed today. Just spicy enough to wake me up and the perfect partner for this rainy Saturday morning. The aroma was spicy, but not overwhelming and made me think of my favorite season of Autumn. I used a little less water than I have used in the past communi-teas and found that the flavor was more pronounced and less 'watery', which makes sense. This ranks near the top of this week's teas for me. I think it would taste really good with some vanilla almond milk. I followed the directions on the package for steeping which worked very well.

I can't drink this tea anymore, but I've had it before, so I'm excited that it showed up in the CommuniTEA so I can review it now.
There is something really lovely about this combination of flavors. The earthiness of the pu-erh lends itself really well to the traditional autumn spices, and the orange adds a zingy brightness to lift it up and prevent it from getting too heavy. It is a warm, comforting, perfect-for-the-season tea.

I rinsed this tea for 15 seconds and then steeped for 4 min. I really like the smooth, mineral, kind of light sweetness of the Pu-erh as the base for this blend. I also like the anise and cinnamon combination. Great blend!

To my surprise, I didn't really like this one. I love pu-erh, but I grew up drinking the aged stuff (those disks/spheres you can get in Chinatown) and I think I'm just used to drinking it without all the extra stuff added.

I enjoy the earthiness of puerh solo so I was interested to see what spice would bring to the party. It’s a pretty welcome guest! The earthy base of the puerh is a great platform for the bold spices in this brew. The cinnamon is most prominent but I could discern a bit of ginger on the back of the sip. I added some sweetener to bring all those flavors to the forefront. I didn’t note a “fishy” smell that can sometimes accompany puerh, so I don’t think this blend needs rinsing. Just let the spices shine! Happy Sipping!

I really enjoyed this blend of smooth, rich tea with cinnamon, anise and ginger. It's smoother than many chai or spice teas. The ginger adds some warmth and the cinnamon a nice aroma. Anise lends a little spark, but isn't overpowering.

My communiTEA packet contained all ingredients it was ‘spose to. Ginger, cinnamon and anise aromas were noted.
I had 3.38 grams of tea for a 15.25 ounce steep. No unpleasant aromas were noted, so no pu’erh hot rinse was needed, I steep at 200°F for all pu’erhs ‘cause that’s what I do. I pulled the steep at four minutes, when just about all the leaves had fallen and color depth was not changing.
When hot, pu’erh earthy flavors and aromas were mild. Mild cinnamon flavors were noted. I added ¼ teaspoon of sugar in hopes of bringing out orange flavors.
When warm, mild ginger tongue zings were noted. Mild sweet and tasty licorice flavors were noted from the aniseed. Mellow and smooth earthy ripe pu’erh flavors were noted.
Mild citrusy orange flavors popped through at the end. This one warmed my gizzard! An excellent shu cha pu’erh spicy sip indeed! (4 mins @ 200ºF, ¼ tsp sugar)

The packet opened to reveal dark colored pu-erh tea leaves and bits of spices. Plenty of cinnamon spice aromas gave it a nice autumnal vibe. A full black tea steep at 212°F for 5 minutes created a dark mahogany brew.
Spiced scents permeated the steam as it rose from the cooling cup. Pu-Erh tea provided a nice rich and earthy base. Smooth aged tea flavors nestled underneath layers of cinnamon, clove, and ginger spices. The body is very smooth, followed by a mild cinnamon spice with ginger zings on the finish.
The Pu-Ehr base gives this one quite an interesting combination of flavors for a spiced tea. Autumnal and earthy pu-ehr of course paired quite well with the fall spices! Great blend!

What can I say? This is perfection in a cup. One of my go to teas, especially when it’s cold outside. I never run out of this one. I love pu-erh tea. It’s such a smooth, wonderful black tea that’s super forgiving and never bitter. This is perfect for when I want a little spice but not a chai. The spice is very mild in this one along with the orange. I love it plain but it’s also good in blends. My preferred way to drink this one is steeped with some added cloves and orange peels. Served hot and black. It will also make a good latte. @adagioteas
