I think this tea was okay, kind of earthy tasting but not overly complicated. I greatly prefer the Pu-Erh Dante, however.
A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor. Freshly damp forest aroma, warm hay inside a barn, mushrooms and savory vegetables. Wilted flower notes and faintly dark chocolate texture.

A wonderful earthy taste. Truly a new favorite that I will drink again and again!
Also has a very earthy flavor that I can't get over. I needed to add some sweetness to mask it for me.
I really enjoyed the earthy flavor. I did a quick rinse for the first pour and then steeped as directed. Perfect afternoon tea for me.
Earthy and slightly fishy on 1st steep. 2nd steep is much better overall enjoyed this puerh
I got a starring note of fresh straw here- pleasant and unique. There is also mushroom and other earthiness going on. This is a great break from your normal tea, but I couldn't make it a daily drinker.
The Batman of Pu-erh teas. Rather, the tea Bruce Wayne would drink after a long night of protecting Gotham. So strong and robust yet smooth and calming
Really got into this after a few tastings. I don't even wash it. It has warm, early, solid quality that makes for a very comforting cup.
Decent earthy flavor.I like the pu-erh Dante better though
Excellent, strong, full bodied, woodsy and complete tasting tea. In love with this !
To be this tea tasted much like its cousin, Pu-Erh Dante. Musty and a bit earthy.
A classic, funky, earthy pu erh; warm, rich, earthy, and kinda like mushrooms
I am a huge fan of Pu-Erh, but I do understand it is a very polarizing tea. It has a very distinct flavor and aroma, and I know it is not for everyone. However, if you have never tried it, or think the other Pu-Erh varieties are a bit strong, this is a good introductory one. The flavors and even the aromas are not as bold as Pu-Erh Dante, so it is a safe way to jump into such a unique tea niche. Still very good and will be my go-to when I want to enjoy Pu-Erh without something super strong.
This tea kind of smells like a clean barn, but is subdued (like a clean barn in winter). It has a distinct hay aroma, but a lot of people also think it smells like dirt. The taste is a very dark and almost mulchy taste, but in an appetizing way. Also, this tea does not get bitter, like other black teas. You can steep it for 30 minutes and it will still be very drinkable.
Very glad I heeded the advice on doing a thirty-second steep and then discarding the water; it indeed tasted strangely fishy.
The actual steep was something I enjoyed a lot. Very earthy, and a little funky (but in a good way, somehow). Probably not for everyone, but it is for me.
This pu-erh has a really interesting taste. It is unlike many other ripe pu-erhs that I have tried before. It has a lighter quality to it than most.
I really like this tea. It has the taste that I prefer in a pu-erh. It s a bit malty but also has quite an astringent taste with it. I just truly enjoy this.
excellent pu-erh. This unsophisticated palate could not discern from pu-erh dante.
This tea is really smooth. It has the pu-erh funk, but not too much of it. For me it is not worth the price. I have lots of other cheaper teas I like almost as well or better.
The best Pu-Erh out there. The cost is very high though so I'll stick to the less expensive Pu-Erh Dante which I find to be a very good Pu-Erh that is almost as good. If you don't like Poe, then you just don't like Pu-Erh.
This was just ok. Not worth the price, in my opinion.
So gross! I’m a pretty open person when it comes to tea. Though I prefer fruity teas, I can also do traditional too. This was AWEFUL! Per some of the reviews, I did a pre-steep for 40 seconds, disposed of the rinse water and tested per for 3 minutes per package directions. It tasted like I licked the floor of a barn. I plan on tossing the rest.
This is such an interesting tea. It smells awful when you open it up, don't let that fool you though. Once brewed it is really good. I like he smoothness of this tea I also love the chocolate after notes. I Really enjoy this one.
I love Pu- Erh teas. And this one was ok. Pu- Erh Dante, Which is my go to and a better value.
After reading all the reviews , I had to purchase this tea and taste those notes for myself. Sure enough, the smell and taste really do evoke a farm or tack room; very loamy. I personally love it, but it may be more of an acquired taste for some. Excellent even as it cools, especially with just a touch of honey.
Nope. Pur eh can be much better than this. A flat taste.
Just tried a sample of this and I am very pleased:)...very balanced pu er and as many have noted, it has a deep earthy flavor that will allow many steeps...very happy I tried this one!
Delicious, but I don't taste a significant enough difference between this and the Dante for it to be worth the price difference. Glad I sampled it, don't need more.
One of my all time favorites and go-to teas. I could drink this one every day. I have yet to find a better tasting pu erh trees than the ones sold by Adagio. Thank you for making this high quality tea available.
When I ordered this the first time, it was mostly out of curiosity. I never expected to actually like it and have since ordered it again. While it does have notes of hay and tomatoes and the only way I can really describe that it tastes like a farm, please don't let it scare you away. It really is delicious!
I am a huge fan of the Hazelberry and Chorange Pu'erhs, so wanted to sample the base tea. It's smooth, earthy, and brews to a beautiful deep brown. The fermentation and storage gives it a mushroom and woody flavor to me. This is a good replacement for black coffee for me. Best to enjoy and sip, the flavor is very complex.
(See pu erh dante comment) of the 2 I like this one just a little better
These dry leaves do not have a sweet scent, but neither are they unpleasant - they smell of subtle evergreen forest and faintly smoky, or more precisely, summer-warmed pine needles toasting in the afternoon sun. It brews up very dark, almost black, tastes exactly as the dry leaves smell, with the addition of a slight tang and a finish of elusive spearmint. It is very smooth, without astringency, offering a complex and delicious cup.
I wasn t expecting to like this tea as much as I do!
Smokey and leathery up front. Allow it to cool a bit and it mellows to a richer, sweeter tea with a bit of tobacco. Very complex, I think of it as the whiskey tea.
A unique tea for more experience just for it taste and the way you brew it temp. Is always a major fact , but is a good tea!!! Is a red darck copper color. With some cranberry sweet notes with a kick of some seaweed verry little to it.. You need to try it to see what I mean but verry relaxing!!
This is one of those teas that makes you go hmmm. At first it was a little musty, almost fishy, but it grew on me. I had no idea what a pu-erh was in the world of teas so there was no preconceived notions on my part when I opened the sample. I added a little cream and, OMG, it was great. I really liked the red tint as well. Overall a great tea—I’ve already ordered a 3 oz. bag.
A beautifully earthy tea with a nice scent and flavor. I forgot that I had it steeping and left it much longer than I should have, but even then the flavor wasn't overpowering or bitter. That's a win for me!
If you're into Pu-erh, this is definitely one to try!
I really appreciate the earthy flavor of this one. A+
I want to second the advice given by others to steep this tea twice. The first steeping should be with a small amount of boiling hot water for about 30 seconds. Discard that and then steep again for 3 - 4 minutes. I didn't to do this with Pu-Erh Dante but the Poe definitely requires it. Most Pu-Erh teas require this 2 step steeping. The first steeping awakens the tea and helps the full flavor come through in the 2nd. It also takes the edge off the naturally occurring fishy taste. I really like this Pu-Erh and prefer it to the Dante as its flavor is much more complex and satisfying.
We first got the hazelberry and chorange pu-erh, which we really love. So then we tried the pu-erh dante (which I believe is the base for the hazelberry & chorange) and really liked that. This was the next logical one to sample. It has a much stronger mushroom/fishy/smoky taste to it compared to pu-erh dante. I still like it, but probably prefer the dante, which seems brighter to us. Really nice for multiple brews. Now sure if I will order more or not yet. Hazelberry pu-erh is still my go-to.
Very high quality pu erh. Not as strong of a flavor as the pu erh pearls, but a very smooth flavor. I'd recommend this to anyone who really enjoys smooth pu erh teas.
Love this tea. I wasn't sure what to expect when I tried it but I was pleasantly surprised.
I don't rinse the leaves at all; I find it good for 3 good infusions, steeping 4, 5, and 6 minutes respectively. A better afternoon tea; I like my Irish Breakfast in the morning.
This Pu-Erh is my second one, the first one I tried was Pu erh Dante. This one in comparison to Dante, has a more woodsy taste invoking a feeling of relaxing in an old building.
My go to tea! The tea has a strong fermented smell in the can, but it is amazing brewed. It can stand on its own or is perfect to blend with others (such as Golden Monkey). The smooth flavor can be enjoyed sweetened or not. Even the second steep is as dark as the first. Just don't let non-tea drinkers smell it before trying it.
I really like the silky mouth feel if this tea. I make homemade bone stock, and love to brew this with a cup of that. It adds a savory mushroomy flavor.
Great taste Pu-erh Po tea is most delightful. The aroma is full and satisfying. We drink the tea in the late afternoon and find it relaxing. The major problem with the tea is the high cost.
This is my favorite. I mix it with age pearls of green tea make it more flavorable
It was smooth and dark, but I couldn t get past the fishy notes (which I assume were caused by the fermentation). I will probably try another pu-erh at some point, but I suspect this style of tea may just not be for me.
