I'm finding I really like pu'ehr teas. The tea itself always has such an earthy softness to it. It's dark, but doesn't have a strong taste...mellow and smooth. I'm not sure if the fruit bits were missing from my packet today or if the chocolate and creme flavors just overpowered the strawberry...but my cup tasted more like chocolate creme than strawberry or even hazelnut. But, it was still a very good cup of tea. Quite relaxing and sweet. I'm putting this on my wishlist and will order to add to my tea collection. If the berry nuance doesn't come through at that point, I will add a slice of lemon and force it to be present! :)

Today's CommuniTea sampler. Chocolate and strawberry? Yes, please! Hazelnut? Nope. Nope. And a bag of nope. I think this would have been delicious otherwise. The hazelnut has a burnt smell and taste that overpowers anything else, IMO. On the bright side, if you really love hazelnut, then you might like this blend.

Remarkably smooth, there's a wonderful earthy taste thats heightened by strawberry goodness. Pu-erhs often remind me of working outside, and this is the taste of digging in the strawberry patch.

The hazelnut and strawberry are a nice addition to this pur-urh tea.

Reviewing along with the CommuniTEA today: A strong strawberry scent wafted from the dry tea leaves when I emptied the contents of today's packet. After steeping at 200° F for 5 minutes, I notice a pleasant strawberry and cream essence on the nose. When taking a sip, I first detect the earthy, pu-erh tea (mirroring the added ingredients) followed by hazelnut and hint of hot cocoa on the finish. This is a delightful, complex tea.

I was so surprised that I loved this tea. I haven't had much luck with past pu-erh twas.. Maybe it's the addiction of strawberry or hazelnut, but this one is delicious

05/28/20: This tea is more of an acquired taste for me. After trying it a few times I do enjoy it, but it's something I really have to be in the mood for and isn't an every day tea. It is very smooth and has notes of strawberry and hazelnut, with that earthy undertone to it that is strange at first but not bad. Adding cream made it actually taste similar to warm strawberry milk.

CommuniTEA update: After trying this again I bumped up my review to 5 stars. This one smells amazing in the packet, like fresh strawberries and chocolate hazelnut. All of those notes come through once steeped as well, and the pu-erh provides a creamy smooth base with a full body. Still has a sort of earthy and fresh hay flavor, but I enjoy it more now than the first time I tried it. I didn't add anything to the tea this time, it's great on its own.

30 Jan 2021 communiTEA review ... What a surprise! This is one of my all-time favs. My 30 Dec 2020 sample review below still holds true:

Pleasant nutty aromas were the first thing I noticed up opening the bag. Mild low tide aromas were also noted in the bag, so I did a 15 second hot rinse. I decided to keep the rinse water and carried on with a full steep as these flavors were acceptable.

When hot, mild earthy flavors and aromas were immediately noticed from the pu’erh. Cocoa or strawberry flavors had not presented themselves yet. Hazelnut flavors were mild. I added 1/4 tsp of sugar to intensify all flavors.

When warm, strawberry flavors were mild and pleasant. The creme made itself known by providing a very smooth mouthfeel. Pu’erh and cocoa flavors came forward and worked together to produce an earthy chocolatey taste. The hazelnut and strawberry flavors decided to move up right next to the others. At the end, all players came together nicely to provide a very pleasant sip indeed! The second steep was actually better.

Really love this tea! It has a delicious hazelnut aroma. The flavor is rich and earthy, but very, very smooth without even a hint of bitterness or astringency. The berry flavor brightens it up and the hazelnut adds a sweet richness. Being able to do more than one infusion is a big bonus!

Ii Generally prefer tea as hot as I can tolerate it without burning my tonsils. At its hottest, this would only have rated a 4, but as it cools slightly the strawberries and cream taste become dominant. Its a lovely drink.

Totally got a fishy taste and aroma on this one. I have never had to rinse pu'er teas before and totally regretted not doing so with this tea. I think I would have really liked it if I had. Maybe next time.

This is delicious! It has chocolate undertones and prominent berry, strawberry. It’s a mild tasting tea. I drink it plain and find it is sweet enough.

This tea is wonderful, though I do have to use a little more tea/increase steeping time to get it strong enough for me, as Pu-Erh tends to be a little too light for my taste. The hazelnut is very prominent, much more than the berry. I don t taste much berry at all, but I don t mind. If I wanted to get more berry flavor I might mix in some of my other berry teas to make a blend. It has that earthy/'dirty' Pu-Erh flavor that s so unique. I could drink this very often! I really love it.

If you enjoy Pu-Erh teas and like hazelnut and strawberries than this is a tea to try.

Have you ever been drinking a cup of tea and thought to yourself, 'I wish my tea tasted a bit more like coffee.' Then I recommend this tea. The first time I tasted it, I honestly thought I was drinking a light coffee and not a cup of tea. I think that it's just me because I associate hazelnut flavor with coffee and chocolate, not tea. It's got a great strength to it for a tea that is very commendable especially for those of us that like a robust cup of tea. The riches of the Pu-Erh is quite nice paired with the smoothness of the hazel berry. Now, I will admit that trying this, I find myself compelled to say I've not noticed a stronger caffeine buzz off this than I do when I drink my white teas. I will explain: I'm very sensitive to caffeine. Like extremely sensitive to caffeine: I each too much chocolate, and I've got a caffeine buzz. I don't consume large quantities of caffeine, especially non-tea-based caffeine. For example, I went to a well known, but to remain nameless, coffee chain to get a holiday flavored latte as soon as they came out, and I got it decaf, and I swear to god I thought my world was going to end. Yet, I find that with the Pu-Erh, my reaction is less severe. Yes, I'm perked up, filled with verve and vigor, and ready to do all the things, but I don't get a headache or feel dizzy, or like I'm walking chest-deep through water, or like I need to curl up in a dark hole and die and also run as fast as I can careening off a cliff. All reactions that I have honestly had from drinking a decaf latte. I am an unholy mess. Anyway, the Pu-Erh does give you that added oomph that you might need on a Monday morning, but I'm pretty sure my sleep schedule got screwed up recently, mostly because I was stupid and finished my morning tea in the evening.

I did not rinse the leaves. This has a wonderful creamy fullness flavor. I can t say that I really taste the strawberries but there is a sweetness which is very nice. I don t like chocolate so I was presently surprised to find this tea so enjoyable, I find that the cocoa nibs provide more of a nutty than a chocolaty flavor. I ve always been of the firm belief that nuts make everything better. Definitely a year round keeper for my tea cupboard.

Smooth, great taste Hazelberry gives it the perfect amount of sweetness

★★★★★

At first glance, you might think this would have a similar flavor profile to Valentines because of the cocoa and strawberry. Wrong. This is warm, earthy and smooth. The hazelnut is the star here and while I found it hard to detect much strawberry, this is still very comforting and easily a new favorite.

I really like this tea. It's nutty and sweet, and the pu-erh was smooth and subtle enough that it didn't need rinsing. This is definitely one of my favorite combinations with pu-erh tea, as well as one of my favorite dessert teas overall.

★★★★☆

A warm nutty tea that's a great wake-me-up. The berry flavor isn't as strong as the hazelnut, but it is there in the great after taste. My first time trying a pu erh tea, and I really liked it. This is my favorite pu-erh tea!

★★★☆☆

The berry notes didn't show their very much. A bit disappointing.

★★★★★

I was not expecting to like this tea, but given its popularity I got a sample. And holy wow, I am glad I did! I liked it so much I got a full-size bag.
It's complex and rich and roasty-tasting - the cocoa nibs add to the depth; the nuts add to the toasty-roasty quality, and the berry keeps it from going too deep. All the while it is just smooth-smooth-smooth.

It is complex enough to drink plain, and get a good flavor experience, though I am partial to adding some cream and sugar, to turn it into a decadent-feeling treat.
