Wuyi Ensemble Customer Reviews

Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. The honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley is satisfying and hearty.

★★★★★

This is by far my favorite tea. It has a subtle sweetness to it. Delicious.

★★★☆☆

Probably would not order again personally, but a unique tea. Interesting combo of green/oolong flavors. Starts with a green/sencha taste and finishes w/a roasted oolong/black tea flavor. May have to revisit this one a few years from now to see if taste buds change.

★★★★★

Tried this tea at a friend's house. I loved it!!!

★★★★☆

Has that roasted flavor of the oolong, not quite a mineral as the Fujian Rain. Very nice. However, I prefer the Fujian Rain, and it is less expensive, so I likely won't be buying more of the Wuyi ensemble. Also, the third steeping of this one is pretty weak, again unlike the FR.

Earthy and flavorful! Dry finish with a hint of peach? It's one of those teas that leaves a slightly different flavor profile with every sip. Reminds me of a less mineral version of Fujian Rain. A very good earthy and dark oolong.

★★★★★

This tea is amazing. It tastes like a high quality formosa mixed with hojicha.

★★★★☆

Being from China, this oolong has a darker brew due to its higher oxidation. Minerally and wonderful to drink, especially when enjoying some meat dishes. Seems to help with digestion of richer foods.

★★★★☆

Cleaner taste than some typical oolongs. distinct flavors are apparent instead of a muddy amalgamation of indistinguishable tastes. Enjoyable but nothing brilliant. Holds up well for 2 infusions at 3,4 minutes.

★★★☆☆

The weakest oolong I have ever drank. No amount of steeping or leaves would ever pep this one up. If subtly is what you are after, then this one will not disappoint.

★★★★★

I had to try this after enjoying it blended with Yunnan Jig in Adagio's Mambo offering. This has an incredible clover honey and chamomile scent to me, also to taste with some nice hints of nuttiness resembling macadamia nuts. I have yet to be disappointed by any of Adagio's oolong offerings. With multiple steeps, something different in every infusion.

Wuyi emsemble is unique and different. I have always liked it and especially enjoy mixing it with teas like Jade Snail. It's perfect for mixing and the taste is smooth and light.

★★★★☆

Complex, deep flavors. Like other have said you seem to move back an forth between the mineral/earthy flavor profile and the fruity profile. I like this tea but I'm still searching for a deeper oolong at lower price point. I'm a big fan of Fujian Rain which is milder both in flavor and price.

★★★☆☆

It's okay. I think it tastes about equal to or worse than other oolongs, like Fujian rain, which are about half the price. There was nothing particularly impressive about this.

I very much enjoy a good oolong, and this was a good oolong. Very malty, but also with a good balance of 'grassy' flavors. My favorite oolongs in the past have been ti kuan yin, and that still stands, but this was also quite good.

One of my favorites, particularly on cold winter days. The perfect tea when you have come in from shoveling this year's excessive snow.

★★★★★

This is my favorite Oolong right here I absolutely love it, enough said, haha.

★★★★☆

This is a fine oolong tea, but it's not for me. It's a lightly colored tea that leans more on the green side of oolong with a vegetable/mineral taste. There are some light floral notes in there as well. The leaves stand up well to multiple infusions.

★★★★★

This is one of my favorite teas. I highly recommend it.

★★★★☆

At first it has a bit of an earthy smell to it, but after brewing it takes on a nutty taste.

★★★☆☆

The first Oolong I've ever tried. Was nice with Honey and a bit of Sugar, but was just not a great fan of the lingering aftertaste of this one.

★★★★☆

Not as nuanced as the dancong aria, but more complex than the fujian rain.

★★★★★

A classic oolong tasting tea, but it's a little bit sweeter almost a little fruity-ish?? but it's good, I really dig it as an oolong and it tastes the best with some honey.

★★★☆☆

I'm not really a big fan of green tea, but this was alright.

★★★☆☆

Solid tea but forgettable. I'm struggling to fully describe anything about it after having finished the batch.

★★★★☆

Rock-taste is definitely the right way to describe this tea, certainly unlike anything else. Personally, I couldn't taste any difference in this and the Wuyi Da Hong Pao master's version, so I'd go for this instead if you really like this kind of tea.

★★★★☆

Definitely taste the sesame other people mention. Smells nutty when brewed.

This is my first foray into the oolong category, and I'm not disappointed! Other reviewers have mentioned an oaty, toasted sesame flavor-spot on. This is a hearty, warm tea that falls somewhere in between a subtle green and an intense black. This is a perfect fall tea, and will be joining Lapsang Suchong on my list of go-to cold weather favorites! Thank you Adagio for a great free sample!

Very much as described. Tried some before giving a sample to a friend.I put some stevia extract in it, and I really tasted the honey flavor. I actually was thinking honeysuckle.

A very nutty and musky flavor, perfect for the crisp mornings in fall.

★★★★☆

A great everyday oolong that I use when I want great tea on the go.

★★★★☆

My husband really likes this tea. It has become his morning staple tea.

★★★★★

I'd forgotten how provocative this is. I get just a few chances to get real cerebral with a cup of tea anymore - this one holds up well to such focused attention.

I adored the Masters Collection of this variety and had to see how it stacked up to it's cheaper counterpart. The Masters Collection is definitely worth it, but this is a great oolong to share with friends and family. A favorite.

This tea made me feel like I was in a Japanese tea house. I could taste the sesame and something else that was familiar and reminded me of Japanese cuisine. It was also sweet and pleasantly earthy.

My favorite oolong for sure, and I've tried quite a few! Highly recommend.

★★★★★

Wasn't sure what to expect. The scent in the bag was subtle. When brewed the tea was earthy and a little smoky.

This is a beautifully made, deeply complex tea. The aroma is very rich and savory. I just love the lovely flavor, and this is a must try for all oolong drinkers.

Earthy, rocky, yummy. This may be my favorite tea that Adagio makes.

★★★★☆

The woodsy smell of the dry tea is deceptive, as the golden liquor of this tea when brewed is nutty with a hint of sweetness. Roasted sesame is the main note initially, with multiple infusions bringing the more subtle flavors to the front.

★★★★☆

A nice Oolong tea, I drank it at work and it is good for four or so steepings.

★★★★☆

Delicious, nutty, and warm. I prefer it hot, as the flavors are a bit deeper than if it were iced.

I bought this as a stand-in for Fujian Rain until it gets back in stock and I'm loving it. All the things I adore about FR are present in this oolong. It's earthy and smooth and delicately sweet. Retains flavor over multiple steepings. A little roasty or nutty. Does not have a mineral flavor that most greener oolongs tend to. It gives a cleansing/clean feel when I drink it but also sits a little heavier in my stomach, kind of like a Gen Mai Cha would.

I think this may be a budding new favorite. It has the yan yun flavor that wuyi's are famous for, but has an under fruity flavor that is decidedly peach. whats amazing is its smoothness. there's virtually no astringency.

★★★★☆

Very nice ... especially with just a touch of honey.

★★★★★

this is a really great oolong, with a hint of vanilla sweetness

★★★★★

Fantastic. It has a intriguing taste of earthiness, yet with a hint of sweetness. And it seems to balance this out perfectly for me.

A wonderfully refreshing tea! And it should make an especially great Iced tea as well.

★★★★☆

I have loved the deep, smoky, complex flavor of this tea for years. I have tried many others, but not for long -- this was the best! Till now, I have always rated this tea as outstanding. Unfortunately, the tea in my February 2013 order was very different. No matter how much tea I used, or how long I steeped it, the deep color and, more importantly flavor, never developed. It's still good, but no longer great. WHAT HAPPENED??!!

Woody, almost nutty aroma, golden colour. Very robust flavor but still smooth. A little lighter than fujian rain, more aromatic. A great wulong.
