Formosa Oolong Customer Reviews

A darker oolong tea from Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa (which means 'Beautiful'). Deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma, autumn 'leafy' note. The lingering flavor and smooth, refreshingly fruity astringency and a lovely introduction to Taiwanese tea.

★★★★☆

This is a good, standard oolong. I ordered this one and fujian rain to try out, and although this one isn't bad, it's the other one I'll be reordering!

★★☆☆☆

Smells fantastic, tastes not so great. It has almost a musty taste to it. I was really disappointed because, like I said, it smells AMAZING. Good thing I got a free sample of it and didn't waste my money.

★★★★☆

A lovely, nutty nose on this oolong--a bit like peanut. A very subtle taste as well--even brewed for four minutes, this tastes like a very mild black tea. I get notes of nut, chocolate, and something like crisp leaves. Very rich and dusky but not at all overpowering! This is a tea for you if you find black teas too strong but like what their taste could be.

I can't say I like this tea. Im a big fan of any Jasmine scented teas, yerba mate, and pu-erh black teas but this had an unpleasant taste. In order to drink this I sip it three times to make it lighter. So far the worse tea I have purchased from Adagio. The best teas so far from adagio were the Jasmine Phoenix pearls and the dragonwell green tea. I have tried ten different kinds of Dragonwell and Adagio sells a very very nice dragonwell!

Such a great taste. Really enjoyed it. Planning on buying more!

★★★★☆

I definitely prefer green oolong, but this is surprisingly good, if not a big tannic. It's got a fruity, smooth aftertaste that makes it pleasant to drink.

★★★★☆

This is undeniably a good tea. It is more on the black than the green side, for an oolong. It brewed brown, with an earthy smell and flavor. Almost malty. Smooth mild bitterness in it. Although I enjoyed it greatly, I think that I enjoy other blacks and oolongs more. I am glad I tried it, and encourage others to do so, but I likely will stick with other flavors in the future.

Very good! I am satisfied. This was a freebie given to me by someone for my birthday.

★★★★★

I found this oolong to be exactly the sort I'd like for an autumn cup of tea. The leaves are very pleasing to the eye, and are reminiscent of fall foliage from the start. The flavor profile given by the introduction is very accurate, although as someone who isn't overly fond of raisins I found the appeal of the tea to be untarnished. The aroma is not as strong as other medium/highly oxidized oolongs, and I would summarize the drink with the words deep and smooth. Not a wild ride for the taste buds, this tea was happily devoid of any roasted nuttiness that is sometimes found in darker oolongs.

Oh oolong, you magnificent goddess, you. This one's got a nice full body for an oolong, and that wonderful sort of oaty, muesli flavor, with a finish reminiscent of sweet dried fruit. It basically tastes like a light, nutritious breakfast, and to that end, is an absolutely wonderful, gentle start to the day.

The first time I brewed this, I failed. It came out not as strong as I hoped. Anyways, after acquiring better tea hardware than a steeper from Walmart, it was wonderful! It came out very earthy and smooth.

★★★★☆

This is a wonderful tea. It has a nice nutty aroma and a full bodied taste.

It's pretty good...not as good as the number 40 but still a nice oolong.

★★★★★

This was my first step into the world of oolong, and I don't regret it at all. Rich flavor, very easy on the stomach, while still being incredibly filling. Be careful not to over-steep and you're sure to get a great flavor.

this has to be one of my favorite non-flavoured teas, nice and roasty toasty, without being ashy now, now after my 2nd order of this i can see the raisin notes they mention on the bag, if i had to sum it up in so many words, it's like roasted compost with 2 scoops of raisins.

★★★★☆

good iced or hot. very earthy kinda winey. not all that i expected though.

I've never been a huge fan of Oolong. That changed when I finally tried this Formosa. The flavors are wonderful and it was the perfect way to wake up this morning. I will be getting more of this wonderful tea very very soon.

Ok, I'll admit it - this tastes like mulch. But in a strangely addicting sort of way. This is a very earthy tea. Strong and heady with the overall impression of bark. But good bark. Yummy bark. Its pretty no-nonsense and but also pretty enjoyable. Or in Shakespeare terms, it is 'hot ice and wonderful strange snow'...

This was my first oolong tea ever, and it was a great start! The complex, earthy flavors were pretty close to what I expected and it has a great 'medium' caffeine content for me. It's all about personal taste, but for me it was well worth the two bucks and I greatly enjoyed this simple, cheap oolong.

★★★★★

Very much enjoyed the formosa oolong as my first real introduction to oolong. Nice light, fruity flavor with a darker hint that keeps the fruity taste from being overpowering. Delicious.

★★★★☆

A nice simple dark oolong. Doesn't have some of the deeper complex flavors in many other oolongs but still quite enjoyable

★★★★☆

good everyday type dark oolong tea. nice wood-like flavor.

★★★★★

A new favorite... Smokey undertones very full bodied. I added hazelnut honey to it one morning was amazing .

★★★★★

My introduction to looseleaf oolongs was a fantastic success. I've tried other, more expensive ones, and the sweet-fruity subtle undertones of formosa lure me back every time.

Not my favorite, but still a very nice oolong. Slightly smokey taste, has a flavor of stone-fruits.

★★★★★

As an oolong, this is not very strong in flavor. However, I like the lighter, fruity flavor. It is a great introduction to Taiwanese oolongs.

★★★★☆

A nice, bold, full bodied oolong tea. Good on its own or as a base for blending.

★★★☆☆

Interesting aroma. Smells like burning autumn leaves. Ultimately, I couldn't really find any engaging flavors to draw me in.

★★★★☆

This has recently been my go to tea for a pot in the morning. Good hot or cool. My favorite? Don't know yet. I have a lot of teas to work my way through. :}

★★★★★

This is one of my favorites and is a huge hit in my household. Definitely a great anytime tea

this is a good quality oolong. Nothing special but is good for the price.

When studying abroad, I had my first taste of Taiwanese tea - and then couldn't find it again anywhere. Thank goodness for Adagio! I get to enjoy a favorite once more.

★★★★★

Smooth nutty taste and slightly sweet. Great for mornings.

★★★★★

Lovely toasty flavor, and a light mouth feel. It took a few sips for the astringency and leafy notes to come in, and they added nice complexity.

★★★★☆

Warm flavor and a pleasant aroma. No need for sweetener, as it is pleasant on its own.

★★★★☆

I got this one as a sample. This was a fair everyday oolong. The color was pretty, and the taste was full and dark. Probably would be better mixed with another tea. Perhaps a flavored black? Overall, a good cup.

I love oolong teas and this is no expection! Delicious and flavorful. A great buy.

★★★★☆

First time trying an oolong, and it's not bad at all. Definitely will try out others.

★★★★★

I love the flavor on this tea, its a gentle yet rich flavor that is amazing on the palate. I could drink this stuff forever.

A dark oolong with full flavor. I admit, I have a soft spot for the 'greener' oolongs, so this won't be a regular. I'm glad I tried it.

This wasn't really my favorite oolong . . . it seemed a little bitey. It may have just been how I brewed it so I will try it again, though.

★★★★☆

I bought a pound of this despite the fact I had not purchased a sample. The price was spot on, and others seemed to like it. Based on smell, I wasn't too enthusiastic when the water first hit the leaves, but after brewing for 5 minutes I was left with a pleasant cup of tea. It's nothing spectacular, but it is ideal for an everyday brewing.

Very delicious tea. My first experience with oolong, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. Slightly smokey and woody, reminds me of a milder green tulsi.

Very mellow with light woody notes, and doesn't lose much on a resteep. i think oolongs are becoming my favorite style of tea.

Can't wait to try this tea. Based on the reviews it sounds good.

★★★★☆

Honestly, I believe it tasted like a strong generic black tea. Not bad, not unique. Will stick to others.

After steeping, let it sit another minute or two, the taste of autumn emerges. Very drinkable. I do prefer the bolder wuyi ensemble, but this is a very solid everyday wulong.

When I opened the bag, it smelled like wet dirt. However, when steeped, the smell mellows out- and it's still good after the 3rd steeping! In fact, I'd say it actually gets better. Great with some brown sugar.

This was my first time trying a loose leaf oolong... love it! Excellent aroma, perfect for relaxing with after a long day.

A tea that is good for any time any day. I like the ripe fruit notes.
