Ali Shan Customer Reviews

Green oolong tea from Ali Shan, one of Taiwan's most famous tea growing areas. Beautiful high mountain oolongs come from its misty peaks. Warm sugar and deeply layered floral aromas, with a melting, creamy mouthfeel. Mellow and light-bodied.

These green oolong teas are an addiction. This one is so soft and floral with hints of lemon and sugary sweetness. The first infusion was light, but the second was complex and incredible.

Nearly perfect, lightly oxidized oolong. Fragrant and luscious.

What the heck did I just drink? This tea is a smirking trickster simultaneously revealing creamy, fruity, buttery, floral, spinach-y, vanilla-y flavors (and something else that my taste buds can't seem to decipher). There is so much depth in the flavor it's hard to believe it's coming from a single tea leaf and not a mixture. This is hands down the best oolong I have ever tried and I would highly recommend it.

The leaves in the tea are tightly wrapped, almost like a pearl or gunpowder tea, and unfold nicely in my tea press. I think this tea would work well in an infuser-mug that has large holes (it won't fall through).
This isn't my favorite oolong, but it's good, and it also seems to hold up to higher temperatures better than some other oolong teas (I've used boiling water on it more than once, and the flavor is still good).

My favorite oolong tea! Strong and complex, but not dark and bitter. Very clean and rich. Awesome taste!

My favorite tea so far. I could drink this all day long. I absolutely love the earthy flavors of oolongs, and this is without a doubt the best I've ever had. You can actually feel your blood being purified and your spirit rejuvenating. I just want to roll around in this tea. The aroma is magnificent, and I steep this one at least 3 times. Ali Shan definitely holds up to its reputation.

Ali Shan is a great example of a masterful formosa. its sweetly floral, but vegetable and hint of honey. It brews quite a warm and inviting cup.

This is an amazing Oolong. The taste is fantastic, especially with a subtle sweatner. Great for evenings. I reordered the larger bag to last awhile. I do find it better at the recommended 190 degree temp as appossed to a lower brewing temp.

This was my first oolong tea and I didn't really know what to expect. I really loved it and found that the 2nd and 3rd cups had the best flavor. The flavor is so buttery and smooth, perfect for when you are studying for exams and need something to relax with. I would recommend this to anyone looking to try oolong as an excellent introduction.

This oolong is hands down the best I have ever tasted - it is floral and sweet, and is good for many steeps. It is pricey, but not bad considering how well it resteeps. I will absolutely be repurchasing!

Oh my sweet merciful God of Tea, praise be to you for sending me this deliciousness! The second and third brewings are excellent, the first a bit ghost-like. The flavors here so so complex, yet light, it's hard to pick out specific ones. Definitely floral and creamy, perhaps with a hint of Meyer lemon somewhere in there. You'll keep being surprised by the aromas and tastes that come up, even if you can't pinpoint them (well, I couldn't). Great is not quite accurate. Stupendous is a better descriptor.

This is a great tea--a very light and pure tea. For the price, though, I prefer the white silver needle when I'm going to treat myself.

Absolutely amazing!! I had never tried oolong before, and this was my first. All of the reviews are spot on. buttery, smooth, creamy, a balanced sweetness, slightly floral and all without the bitterness or grassy aftertaste. It reminds me of my white peony tea but with a more of a pronounced flavor. I got 3 good infusions out of it (the second one was to die for!). I'm still in heaven thinking about it!

I have not yet had very many oolong teas, but I think this might turn out to be a favorite. Anything I can steep more than once and not have the tea turn bitter is great. It has a mild sort of flavor, and I love the fullness of the leaves. If you leave them in the cup, it turns out beautiful.

Very smooth, slightly sweet, but nothing too remarkable considering the price. Flavour comes out better after the first steeping.

This oolong has more than meets the eye, at first glance i thought the flavor would be too mild for me but, it has a depth of flavor that was unexpected, smooth buttery mouthfeel and the second infusion was excellent, slightly different, love this tea!

Love the creamy thickness to it. Earthy taste and smell. The taste wasn't what I was looking for but you cant beat the texture. Prefer a stronger tea.

I thought this was pretty great. Once brewed, it was pale, so I was surprised by the flavor. I was able to brew this 4 times with no bitterness.

A nice creamy tasting clean tea with an underlining complexity. Even though you can get up to 7 infusions, I find the best flavors come out on the 2nd and 3rd. After that it gets rather mellow tasting.

The most delicate unflavored, all-natural, pure green tea I've ever had. Re-steep this tea at least twice and enjoy the subtle flavor rollercoaster from light aromatics into deeper vegetals without any bitterness at the finish. Ali shan is a tea-sipper's tea, a delight to the taste buds.

I very much enjoyed the blending of an oolong with a green tea. It was surprisingly good. I would definitely try it again.

Sweet, honeysuckle aroma-- not too floral, just right. Brews clear, greenish, very light (white wine color) hue. Smooth, crisp clean aftertaste that lingers. This is an excellent tea.

This has the most amazing buttery mouthfeel. It was the first thing I noticed. Very smooth and comforting with a nice greener oolong taste that lingers a bit. Probably the best green oolong I've tried. Too bad it's so costly.

Taste: Slightly astringent, soft floral aroma, hint of floral taste but not perfumy. Not very grassy, considering it's a green oolong, but there is that slight vegetal note, and a very small hint of nuttiness that lingers at the finish now and then.

My preferred steeping: Yixing (clay) teapot is best, also good made in gaiwan where you can watch the leaves unfurl (large beautiful leaves on stem, I give this one lots of room). Rinse pot or gaiwan with hot water, dump in leaves to about 1/5 of pot, pour in just under-boiling water, dump rinsewater, then add more water to top of vessel and steep about 30 seconds. Strain into cups or a pitcher. Can be resteeped up to 8-10 times... add 15 seconds or so each subsequent time or adjust as desired.

If it gets bitter, the water is too hot, or you oversteeped. I find the suggested 2-3 minutes intolerable no matter how hot the water is.

I agree with my wife's opionion that this tea has subtle mothball notes in its flavor. The natural, floral sweetness is pleasing nonetheless.

I love lighter oolongs, and this one ranks as one of my top cups. You have to be in a certain mood for it--not necessarily an everyday kind of tea--but definitely great. Just get multiple infusions out of your leaves. Your wallet (and palette) will thank you.

Something of a mad scientist myself, I am especially appreciative of those willing to chance doing something beyond both the expected and the traditional. Whoever first thought to take a basketful of tea leaves and turn them into a concoction capable of making something as uniquely flavorful as, for instance, a cup of this particular Ali Shan Oolong has long ago been forgotten. Even so, praise be to both them and the present makers of this wonderful, golden green tea!

A postscript. I`ve found the 2nd immersion sweeter and more floral than the first. 3 minutes at around 195 degrees seems to especially highlight the almost Tupelo honey-like overtones.

Good tea, if you are looking for subtle flavors this is your cup, is not a GREAT tea, it is well balanced in sweetness, smoky and feel creamy (no astringency if brewed the right way).

I'm not sure if this is a green or white tea, but it is flavorful and smooth. It holds up well to three infusions, and I will probably order it again even though it was not what I expected when ordering an oolong.

This is a good oolong. It's hard to give it a full 5 stars when there are others so very deserving of a 5 like wuyi da hong pao- but this ali shan is very good. Milder than wuyi da hong pao, this is a smooth, floral, slighlty sweet green oolong. For me it was good for only 2 steeps at 2 mins each at 175 degrees. A nice oolong to try.
