Uji Matcha Customer Reviews

Only the finest, young, shade-grown gyokuro tea leaves are used to create matcha. The leaves are plucked and laid out flat to dry. Veins are removed and the leaves, now called tencha, are carefully ground in granite mills until they become the precious powder.

By the middle of the tin it was my favorite matcha. Nice and rich.

Very flavorful! High caffeine. Smooth. Happy I tried it. Will purchase again.

Delicious! There’s a reason this sells out. I have it every morning with some extra creamy oat milk and it is the perfect start to my day. Highly recommend!

Smooth and elegant texture and flavor. I sift a few scoops before whisking. Amazing as a latte and americano style

Very pleasantly surprised: I never had home made Matcha and wasn't too sure how to proceed, but I followed a recipe for Iced Matcha Latte and it was delicious!!

★★★★★

Wonderful; just getting into matcha. Purchased your other one and used it up, then ordered the Uji. Very smooth, no bitterness. Had my sifter out but forgot to use it, but had no problems. I added it to iced apricot green tea; will try it alone next.
This time tried it straight; very smooth with no bitterness. Wish I had some of your other matcha available to compare the two.

I was missing out on good matcha, I didn't think it would smell so good. It's fresh and slightly sweet. It also whisks like a dream and feels smooth. I wish there was an option to buy a bigger size

I've tried many different matcha and this high quality uji matcha was definitely my favorite so far, the price is worth the different level of flavor

This is an ok matcha. For the price, I was disappointed. I much prefer Adagio's 'standard' matcha. The Uji has a bitter note that I'm not fond of. The batch I received definitely needs to be sifted but it still results in a rather lumpy brew. I'll be going back to the cheaper and better (in my opinion) Adagio offering.

I haven't like Matcha much because of the bitter taste. Someone told me I needed to try Uji Matcha before I made a final judgment on this tea. The Uji had a surprisingly sweet earthy / grassy flavor. There was natural sweetness. This is a Matcha I could enjoy on a regular bases.

Worth every penny. What an amazing matcha!!! I have tried so many different varieties throughout the years, from the high-end organic ones to ceremonial ones, and this is by far the best!! Give a try and you will not regret it.

Really great matcha! I added quite a bit probably more than a teaspoon and the taste was very stable and not overwhelming.

High quality matcha with a fresh flavor and bright green color. This makes a delicious matcha latte. It gives a vibrant burst of energy and delicious matcha flavor. Cheers!

Wowza. $50 for a 2oz tin is no joke, and I am trying to stretch this as far as I can. That said, though, this matcha is the best I've ever had. Pro tip: sieve the matcha into your mug to prevent clumps!

This tea is brighter than any other matcha I've tried. It's stronger too, almost overwhelming when I make it using the same scoops per amount of water I use for other matcha - I actually use 2 or 3 times as much water as other ceremonial grade matcha, and then I can appreciate the depth of flavor without being overwhelmed. I made the mistake of brewing this for a guest who hadn't tried matcha - he was completely overwhelmed at 1/2 tsp per 4 oz. So plan to brew this weaker than you usually would, especially if serving to people who aren't used to strong matcha. It's not only a strong but exquisitely flavorful tea - very vegetal, smooth and deep, with a slight hint of floral flavor remaining after the sip. It's not necessarily creamy but it is very full and satisfying, It froths well and looks beautiful. I prefer cooler water for this one - 70C compared to other matcha teas which do well at 80C. The tea gets increasingly astringent as it cools, but yields an almost nutty aftertaste at that point. As far as a matcha tea, it's perfect, everything I would expect from the best of the best, and pairs deliciously with traditional Japanese sweets, especially wafers, mochi, and jellies. When I first tried Adagio's Ceremonial Matcha last year I grieved that I would never enjoy lower grade matcha again. Now I'm really in trouble - Like how flying first class ruins you for enjoying coach (or so I've heard), I think it would be hard to ever go back to enjoying 'regular' ceremonial grade matcha after this. I might enjoy switching up couple other brands of ceremonial grade tea for their different flavor profiles, some are sweeter/more floral and some are more savory/nutty, but I don't think I'm going to find another so quintessentially matching my expectations for the essence of everything matcha should be. The price tag is high, but the tea goes so far that I actually worry I can't get through this tin while it's fresh, even drinking multiple cups a week. Please, please Adagio, can you consider sample sizes of this? Or a 1 oz option? I live in a humid climate, and the tins don't have desiccators. For the tea purist, the taste is definitely worth the splurge. For those wanting to stay innocently happy with regular ceremonial grade matcha, be careful, because this could change everything...

Easy to prepare (I sift it into a cup, pour a little hot water over it, and then use my milk frother to mix it!), and I sweeten it with the whipped matcha honey. So comforting and relaxing!

It’s an okay quality matcha. It’s fine on it’s own, but given the mediocre quality it’s better as a latte.

As much as I enjoyed the subtle sweetness of this matcha, I'm not sure if my palate is developed enough to really note a huge difference between this and Adagio's ceremonial grade matcha tin. A fun splurge, but if you're like me and can't really detect the difference between two (wonderfully grassy, delicious, bright green, and high quality) matchas, I'd stick with the regular ceremonial grade.

★★★★★

This tea definitely has that sweet creamy grassy flavor we look for in a good matcha. However, I also like the lower priced regular matcha as well and will probably only buy Uji when it’s on sale. Update! Sorry folks! I never went back to a lower priced matcha. Adiago matcha is definitely worth a few more pennies per cup considering the great taste. Bottom line! If the powder is not fine, bright green and make tiny bubbles when whisked , which this tea does, then its not quality matcha. 2-6-19

Compared to other premium ceremonial grades that i ve tried like encha from amazon which is $35 this is not as thick, which some would say means less quality however this stirs up better, the storage tins are much better and and less chunks on the bottom of your cup which is wasted matcha in my opinion. Adagio s Uji had less astrigency than Encha and I enjoyed the complex and slightly sweeter palate of Adagio s Uji over the competion. There was still a little bit microscopic chunks but you can drink them and not even notice, that s how tiny they were. The thickness and microscopic can irritate your throat if you have more than 2 cups in day so don t have more than 2 cups is my recommendation. Since this will only last you about a month if you drink 1 cup a day I can t recommend for $50. Even $35 for Adagio s standard Matcha is pure agony to get every month. I do appreciate the storage tins I think that helps with the way the matcha is stored so it stirs better and the quality is superior over other brands that i ve tried so far. Best at 160 degrees but 170 if you add oat milk and let it cool down for a minute or two. Good without sweetener but i prefer to add a tiny bit. @adagioteas

Uji matcha tea is so mild and tasty. All I do is use it as an iced tea to drink during the day. Great product!

★★★★☆

This is an incredibly smooth matcha! It has a great flavor while not giving too overwhelming of a 'grass' or 'seaweed' note. Overall I'd say give this one a try if you can afford it.

This is a lovely matcha. It blends well so there's nothing left in the bowl.

This is a wonderful Matcha. Great flavor. It is pricier than the other Matcha but worth a try.

By far my FAVORITE tea, I JUST can't get enough!! Need more already.

★★★★☆

This is a good matcha. The taste is smooth and pleasant, but be aware to not brew with water higher than 160F. Then it starts to smell and taste like fish and sea, which it technically shouldn't.

great matcha! mixes well, goes down smoothly without being gritty, lovely 'green' flavor, some umami, earthiness and more floral than some of my other favorite matcha. I mostly drink matcha in lattes though so I'm struggling with whether or not to repurchase since some of nuance gets lost in a latte (I do taste the difference, just not sure if it's worth the price in a latte, however I would def. use for drinking the traditional way).

★★★★★

Probably my favorite matcha, I make hot lattes, iced lattes, add it to protein shakes and smoothies. It s not an overwhelming flavor when blended, but also stands on its own and doesn t get taken over, either. I love it with just a little coconut milk creamer added, and it s so good!

★★★★★

A light, not too potent matcha. This is my favorite morning froth.

Excellent quality, great flavor. Love to add to my lemonade abs make a matcha lemonade. A little goes a long way!

I. LOVE. THIS. MATCHA. I got it 10 days ago and have been drinking it almost daily. I make a matcha turmeric latte and it is so soothing and delicious. This matcha froths/foams beautifully and mixes so smoothly. I can't say enough good things about it. Also, Adagio, thank you so much for the box of sample teas and for the lovely way this was packaged. That stuff matters. Great job!

Tasty, but a bit 'shibui'.. don't know the English translation for that word. Kind of like when you eat fried spinach and there's that feeling in your teeth? But beautiful color and def a wonderful gift!

When I initially tasted this, I wasn't impressed over the regular matcha. The next time I tried it, I added a touch of maple syrup and a splash of vanilla extract. For some reason, it was fantastic that time. We've made it like that since.
