a subtly vanilla-y green tea, very pleasant to have along side a sweet

I'm not really a fan of green tea and the combination of the grassiness with vanilla was a bit strange. It tasted a tad like licorice to me. However, if you enjoy green teas and vanilla you'll probably like this one.

I enjoyed this tea quite a bit. The vanilla is subtle but a real presence along with a delicious green tea flavor. I thought they complemented one another. I steeped at 175 degrees for 3 minutes and got a second steep as well. I used raw honey for a sweetener.

This tea is perfectly balanced! Earthy green still stands out with sweet, buttery vanilla smoothing over the palette. Perfect alone and in blends!

This one was a nice surprise. I wouldn't have thought to pair vanilla and green tea (black tea seems like the natural choice) but it kind of works

Update 12/13/22: This one actually lost a star for me this year. My packet had a very vegetal taste and very little vanilla. I could not take more than three sips this time. Definitely not a tea for me.

10/1/21: Not a fan of vanilla or green tea, if it’s vegetal, but this was ok. I liked the flavor more while it was hot, the vanilla was stronger. As the tea cooled the vanilla faded and it got more vegetal/savory. I drank most of my cup hot but the part I let cool I had to dump. I think this would be good in custom blends.

It smelled more of vanilla than it tasted. Largely it has the barest, entirely missable note of vanilla to the point it tasted more like a very lightly grassy green with a 'sip too fast and you'll miss it' touch of sweetness. I added a pinch of vanilla creamer and it helped to make it taste like its name.

I like green teas, I like vanilla - this one's kind of a no-brainer. It's a soothing sip any time of day, and another place where Adagio's vanilla flavoring really shines. The 'sugar cookie' description is spot on, like a good cookie dough that's been refrigerated overnight to let the sugars break down.

It's been a while since I had a good green tea - they are not typically my favorite although there are some that I have enjoyed. Sadly this was not one of them. The aroma straight out of the bad was grassy, which the flavor mimicked when brewed according to the instructions. Furthermore I did not notice any vanilla or 'warm sugar cookies' (see tea description) flavors, although I did get a bit of the 'bean' (not vanilla - just bean). Nevertheless I was able to drink my cup and think that it might be an enjoyable tea to drink - or blend with - for those who like green tea more than I do. Consumed with the CommuniTea on 12/13/2022.

I really couldn’t taste or smell anything that could be considered “vanilla.” The best I can say about this tea is it didn’t taste like drinking liquid grass

This tea is amazing. The vanilla is not overbearing and complements the green tea nicely. It kinda reminds me of a calorie free vanilla coke minus the carbonation.

I enjoyed this tea during my afternoon break. I brewed it at 180 for two minutes. It is gentle and relaxing, with a delicate balance between the the vanilla and green tea. I don't drink a lot of tea in the moderate caffeine zone...usually high caffeine in the morning and no caffeine later in the day. However, this would be a lovely tea for me to sip on between noon and two p.m. No grassiness or astringency. I did not add a thing.

I am not fond of grassy teas, and the sample in my CT packet was pretty grassy. I didn’t notice any vanilla flavors either. I brewed it at 195 for 3 minutes, tasted it, let it cool a bit, and tasted it again. If you like green teas, you will probably like this one.

I'll start by saying I'm not a great fan of green tea. However, there are some I enjoy and some flavors that I find enhance my enjoyment of duke green teas. I don't think this hits the mark. It's not bad, but... Vanilla cookies? Maybe Nilla Wafers, which are okay, but not homemade sugar cookies with real vanilla extract. This has a fake - vanilla, overly sweet scent and taste that clashes with and overpowers the tea rather than enhancing it... Although this improves somewhat as the tea cools. Even then it somehow tastes like vanilla and tea by turns rather than vanilla flavored tea.

UPDATE from 10/1/21: The aroma is vanilla sweet as the CommuniTEA packet opens. It steeps into a lovely golden/green color. This is a delicious green tea. It has just enough of the bite of regular green tea, but also the smooth creaminess of vanilla. I love both separately, and think they make a very good combination in this tea. It brews very well two times, and does not need anything added. For my second cup, however, I add 1/2 teaspoon of sweetener to 10 oz of tea, and it seems to bring out the vanilla more. Great cup of tea, especially if you like green tea and are looking for variety. (2 mins @ 180ªF+ optional sweetener).

In the packet, I get mostly the smell of vanilla flavoring. I steeped at 180 for 2 minutes.

I'm usually a green tea 'purist' so I wouldn't normally go for added flavorings. On the sip I get mostly vanilla, with just a slight seaweedy hint of the tea in the background. Would be a good 'starter tea' for someone just getting into drinking their tea without milk or sugar. I did get that slight chemically aftertaste of the added flavoring that lingers a bit.

It's interesting that Adagio doesn't mention what type of tea is used; in their 'answers' section they only say they don't sell this type on its own. It looks maybe like long jing (dragonwell), or maybe bancha because of that seaweed-like flavor?

This is a nice green tea with light flavors of vanilla. It's not the strongest vanilla flavoring in a tea, but I think it pairs really well with this green since the green tea itself is fairly light. I don't get an overly grassy component, so nothing ends up overpowering the other.

In the bag: Just the tea. It's interesting that a single component like this can take such a variety of forms. Some of it is flat and some of it is rolled. Part of it is sliced thin while yet another is chopped square. All of it that dark forest green.

On the nose (pre-steep): I know it sounds out of place, but my first impression is of root beer or perhaps Coke-flavored candy. On second sniff I can pick out the separate notes of vanilla and grassy green.

On the nose (post-steep): That root beer flavor has taken a leave of absence. I'm left with a primarily green tea scent. Even the vanilla is hard to pick out, but when I do it's like a light brown sugar.

On the tongue: The taste lines up with the post-steep smell. If I wasn't paying close attention, I would guess this is a naked green tea. I have to hunt for the faint vanilla in order to find it.

I didn't add sugar since I don't enjoy sweetening green teas.

Opinion: Those who like green teas will probably enjoy this one. Don't expect much vanilla, though, or you might be disappointed. For me, I'm not a huge fan of naked greens. A pleasant enough tea, but not to my tastes.

Maybe because this is just a CommuniTea sample pack, I just didn't really get vanilla. It is a fine green tea but for me there was nothing special.

Vanilla Green

Suggested steeping directions: 2-3 minutes at 180°F I steeped this tea for 3 minutes at 185°F, since I don’t have a180 setting on my teapot, in approximately 11 oz of water with 1.5 tsp of rock/tea sugar.

This smells like sweet vanilla, almost like a vanilla sugar cookie with a touch of fruitiness when opening. When steeping begins, the vanilla intensifies a little. Once the steep is completed, a more grassy aroma makes itself known.

At first I thought the grassiness and vanilla were going to fight each other, but as the tea cooled they blended very nicely. The more the tea cools the better the flavor merges and works together. There seems to be a ‘phantom’ lemon flavor lurking in the background, though there is no lemon in the blend. This sip ends on a strong vanilla finish. Very enjoyable. 4.5 stars from me.

Lovely vanilla aroma and flavor. The vanilla initially overshadows the green tea, but the vanilla tastes good.

I love vanilla in tea and was really excited to see it listed as an ingredient. Maybe it is just my poor sense of smell/taste, but I could barely taste the vanilla. The main taste I got was of the green tea. It is a good green tea, but I really wish that the vanilla taste was stronger.

UPDATE: This tea was steeped at 185°F for 3 minutes and was sweetened with 1.5 tsp of tea sugar. A 12 oz Adagio Advent mug was used. The tea leaves smelled like a sweet vanilla cookie. The tea initially reminded me of what I imagine honeysuckle would taste like. As the tea cooled, it developed what seemed to be a lemon flavor. The cooler it became, the sweeter its taste. This was a 4 star tea for me.

Lovely vanilla scented tea with a delicious vanilla flavor. Basic, simple and an easy sipper hot or cold. This green would be perfect for first time green tea drinkers who love vanilla. The gentle grassy taste pairs well with flavoring and is a good tea to blend with too.

My Ct packet has 3 g/ 2 ¾ tsp. of dark green tea leaves enough for a 16 oz. brew. I steep at 175*F for 2:40 min. The liquor is a nice golden yellow with a slight green hue. No bitterness is detected, just some pleasant astringency with a satisfying dry finish. The first taste has some grassy flavor but a green tea honey add boosts the vanilla flavor which smooths the grassiness and voila, its pleasant sipping ever after through the first cup and the 8 oz. resteep too. Chilled, this is very tasty as an iced tea. One of my favorite green teas for a bit of comfort and yummy vanilla flavor brewed solo or blended with other teas.

This tea has just a nuance of vanilla when it's hot, and has a bit more flavor when cool. It has a satisfying green tea taste throughout, and I find it most pleasant with a teaspoon if goldenrod honey. I would recommend this for the green tea lover who wants just a hint of cream flavor. For someone wanting more of a flavorful experience, go for the cocomint green instead.

This has a nice vanilla flavor without being overpowering. I drink it mostly mid day when I want some tea, but have had too many cups of black tea.

This is a nice creamy vanilla added in just the right amount to a soft but refreshing green tea. I love this and wish it came in a decaf version, though I understand that is harder to perfect than a decaf black.

When I'm in the mood for it, makes for an excellently balanced, sweet and fragrant green tea. When I'm not, the vanilla can be a touch overpowering. Try it if you love vanilla teas, but want it gentler than a black tea can supply.

I love green tea and I love vanilla. I thought these two flavors would be great complements to each other, but neither flavor was very noticeable in this tea. It was just boring. The fragrance was good, but the tea was not. Very disappointed.

Vanilla Green is a great tea iced! It's good with cocoa nibs and rock sugar, or even plain with some tupelo honey. It is easy to burn when brewed hot which is why I highly recommend this as an iced tea. Still, it's a great tea and would highly recommend!

I liked this flavor so much that I reordered it. It's got the health benefits of green tea and the delicious aroma of vanilla.
