Sleeping Dragon Customer Reviews

Tightly rolled fuzzy buds give a soft, fruity sweetness enfolded by a rich, smoky note similar to gunpowder, but more complex and crisp.

Update: Perfect as always!

This is the perfect everyday cup of green tea, although I liked the gunpowder, I appreciated that it had deeper complexity but was still affordable.

Very interesting flavor, the smokiness gives it a slight pungent taste, and is quite nice cold brewed.

quite delicious tea. very similar to dragonwell, just a bit punchier. I rather enjoy it but ultimately I prefer dragonwell.

Love the smokiness in the green tea. It does not overwhelm. You don’t need much for the caffeine kick.

I was less impressed with this tea than I wanted to be. A true green tea and good for what it is. But there is something missing. Not bad but not great.

This is my favorite green tea to have on a cold night or whenver I just need a boost. Perfect to study with!

A clean and subtle taste that leaves a little smokiness in each sip. I always come back to this tea.

This is a lovely green, leaves unfurl beautifully, releasing a pleasant visual and aromatic experience with each steep. The taste is wonderfully deep, hints of subtle sweetness, a smoothness one could hope for in a cup of green. It's one I repeat when given the opportunity to.

Its not a green tea in the sense of you can taste rhe green but it has that kind of mouth feel to it that let's you know it's a green. Still its really nice and I did enjoy it.

Today's green on CT was fine I guess. I feel it was just a little better than ok. It was more vegetal than grassy with some mineral notes in the background. I only steeped it for 3 minutes and still think it turned out a little too far on the astringent or bitter side that some greens get to when steeped too long. I think if I run across this one again I will opt for lower temp as well. I do think there was some slight floral flavors in the finish that were not quite identical to jasmine, but very similar to me. 3.5 would be my rating I think. 180° 3 min.

I went into this green tea with an open mind, and to be honest, I had high hopes for it. Sadly, it did not live up to expectations. While it was probably a very nice green tea for someone who likes green tea, it was a tad too grassy for my palate. That was tempered some by both a subtle sweetness and an extremely subtle smokiness, but the underlying vegetal characteristic kept me from going back for a second steep. To be fair, I confess I was not careful about timing as I should have been so I may have to give this one another chance the next time it comes up in the CommuniTEA rotation. (~2 minutes @ 175F)

Tried the CommuniTea portion brewed 2 minutes at 175. I found this tea a bit too grassy for me. Some agave helped and I could drink a cup or two if served to me , but I really prefer to not put sweetener in my tea and would not buy it. There’s other greens that I enjoy a lot more.

I tend to not be a fan of green teas because I find them to be very vegetal. This one wasn't as vegetal as some and had a slightly sweet earthy note - which made it nice. And it was fun watching the leaves unfurl.

This is such a nice, mellow green tea. I usually like my green teas more metallic-y but this is a very good treat nonetheless!

I have had this tea before and enjoyed it more. Today my CT cup was bitter and a bit to astringent. I steeped at 180 for the appropriate amount of time. It is a pretty tea.

I am not a big green tea drinker but this one is interesting! I like how the flavors blend together. I am now rethinking about green tea.

Hmmmm, I'm not the biggest green tea lover, but with a name as intriguing as Sleeping Dragon, I wanted to try it and I'm glad I now have the opportunity. Full disclosure, at first I over boiled the water and had to let it cool for a little bit then pour. I'm sure that may have affected the taste because despite the tea description, this one does taste vegetal to me. Adding honey did not help the flavor profile, but the longer I let it sit and cool down the better I am tolerating it. So take this review with a grain of salt because I'm still not fully convinced whether I like this tea or not. I guess I'll just have to keep sipping.

CommuniTEA sample: 2 min @ 180 F, successive infusions for 3 min @ 180 F. This tea tastes very fresh and fruity. It's fragrant and smells like a sweet green tea, and the flavor reminds me of sour fruits that have been cooked down, making them a little bit more savory, a little bit more sweet, and a little bit like a vegetable broth, in a weird way. I think part of that is due to the smoky note, as well. Very strong flavor, very light body, and overall excellent green tea!

This Sleeping Dragon green tea is my go to for green tea! It is not too bitter or astringent. It seems to be the perfect balance, nice and calming.

My favorite of Adagio's green teas so far. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of green tea, but the smokey serenity of this one is lovely.

Wasn't my favorite but wasnt horrible. It's definitely different then what I'm use to but not horrible

I found this to be too vegetal for my tastes - more so than a gunpowder but definitely less than some others. Not my favorite, but could be good for those who want a hint of that.

I love this tea. It has a buttery consistency and just the right green tea flavor. I enjoy watching it open up in the cup.

Not my jam, I did not enjoy this at all. Maybe my pallet is not sophisticated enough, but no matter how I brewed it. I found it to be yucky. See previous note on sophistication.

Sleeping Dragon is a solid green tea. It has straight forward flavor and pleasant taste for anyone who loves green tea

★★★☆☆

Not my favorite tea that I've tried in numerous samples from Adagio. It was pretty bitter, even when attempting to steep for less time. There weren't many interesting flavors in my cups either, unfortunately.

UPDATE: I really have enjoyed this tea. I like mine to steep less than 1.5 to 2 mins @180

I like this one. I had 3 cups of it already this morning. I keep it light so no bitterness.

Sleeping Dragon is my favorite green tea so far. It has a pleasant, well-rounded but mild flavor that is free of the grassy notes I notice when I drink Gunpowder Green. My favorite way to use it is with fresh grated ginger.

I brewed like I always brew my green teas, and it smelled and tasted of boiled spinach. I love jasmine normally, but this was not it.

I sampled this in the Perfect Sips collection and liked it. I ordered the tea bags, but they are bitter, despite brewing as directed. I tried brewing at a lower temperature for less time, but it is still bitter. I won't be ordering this again.

Really nice, easy drinking green tea. I like to drink this at work in a giant mug each morning. Delicious!

The slight gunmetal taste they mentioned makes sense now, I really enjoy it. I don't add honey or anything at all. Do not oversteep or use over 180*. 3 mins is plenty.
Non-related to flavor: The fuzzy curls are very cute, I guess I usually have straight tea leaves but these clung to each other as they unfurled and it was super duper cute to imagine them as baby sleeping dragons all nestled together in the basket.

ok i have a bone to pick with this one... the description said 'soft, fruity sweetness enfolded by a rich smokey note'
no. just no.
there is no 'fruity sweetness' at all. this tea tastes like a dirty armpit. at smells disgusting, i cant even describe it cause ive never smelled anything like it before.
i had to throw my teapot out cause i couldnt get the stink out.
you owe me a new japanese clay teapot, adagio...
i wont forget this...

I bought this tea for its name only; but it surprised me. This tea has a mild taste, but is soothing on rainy days. I stand by everything I have said about this tea. This tea is perfect for those times you don't want something heavy and overly flavorful.

★★★★★

I sampled this before and I didn’t like it much. It was bitter. But that was most likely because I steeped it for 3 minutes. This time around I steeped it for only 2 minutes and it was much better. It is a pleasant cup that tasted hay like and slightly vegetal. I got 3 good steeps out of this with the 3rd being strong enough to suggest to me that I could have gotten more if I continued. This was enjoyable with or without honey and it is a worthwhile tea to get again.

I wanted to like this green tea. I am a fan of the green oolongs, but I was disappointed after several attempts of adjusting to lower brewing temperature and shorter brewing time (started at recommended 180/2-3 min) that this tea was still so bitter. I couldn't fix it. I threw the rest of the bag away. I would recommend trying a sample first. I will not buy this one again.

★★★★★

A very nice green tea. I usually like gunpowder but this I will also order again. It has a brighter flavor than gunpowder but still strong enough that you know what your drinking. Sometimes I brew for 3 min.,it does not get bitter.
