It wasn’t the tea’s fault. It was mine. I just don’t like green tea.
Classic steamed tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Rich, brothy texture (when steeped as strongly as you might find in Japan), refreshing aroma. Rounded finish that coats the palate, sweet flavor reminiscent of tender steamed veggies and fresh seaweed.

It wasn’t the tea’s fault. It was mine. I just don’t like green tea.
Grassy and astringent, but in a good way. A nice variation from floral teas.
I may have let this steep too long or had too many leaves steeping, but this had a very strong vegetal taste. I think Uncle Iroh may call this hot leaf juice because that is what I thought at first. The sencha overture does grow on you as you steep and drink more. It was quite bitter when cooled down. Smelled a bit of hay before steeping.. @adagioteas
Fresh, light, non-acidic, an excellent green for everyday drinking. This tea makes a good base for blending your own flavors (I add lavender blossoms).
Good sencha, this was my first Japanese green from Adagio and it didn't disappoint! It's very easy to get a different profile/level of intensity depending on what you're in the mood for with this. I normally steep for 2 minutes at 170 for first steep and that's a good baseline - second steep is 175 for 30 seconds, third at 180 for 2 1/2 minutes.
Very fragrant, rich green tea flavor. Be careful though - this one had more caffeine than I expected, especially if you let it steep too long
My favorite 'daily drinker' green tea. For me, this green tea has the right amount of 'grassiness' without any of the bitterness that you'd get from some cheaper green teas (or by over-steeping).
A very good sencha. A bit grassy and bitter but I like that.
When I'm in a mood for really GREEN green tea, this hits the spot. It is rather grassy and can get bitter if steeped too long or with water that is too hot. But if I get the time and temp right when steeping, this is very refreshing - a good basic Japanese green.
this has the same problem as the other sencha tea i tasted--a little too vegetal for me. i do think it would work well in ochazuke! @adagioteas
Very smooth , pleasant tea, very unique tasting , very very fresh.
A very savory tea, with a nice softness. A very vegetal tea.
It certainly tastes green. Sencha isn't my favorite green tea but if you like the grassier ones I think it's a good buy! Definitely nice for a fancier everyday tea and I'm excited to be able to drink it in the mornings :)
I do think this would be very nice cold-brewed and I'm going to experiment with hot brewing too.
Always my favorite> Like to drink with cookies at times.
Should have sencha back after I tasted ya.
This is my favorite tea. I don't even get the water to the right temperature because I'm lazy and use a Krups coffee machine to heat the water, and it's still great. a second steeping of the leaves is only slightly less flavorful, 3rd steeping is asking too much though.
This used to be one of my favorite teas, and a sencha I would drink on a daily basis. I feel like the flavor has fallen off a bit from what I remember (which the sencha premiere now better matches). I need more of it in a cup to get the same flavor I used to.
A personal new favorite green tea. Absolutely perfect
If you enjoy vegetal, grassy green teas, this is for you. If steeps up to a beautiful Golden green color and excites the taste buds with every sip. Happy sipping!
This was not what I expected from a sencha tea, but is good for mixing with herbals
I love this tea! A perfect morning boost with grassy notes and a wonderful smell. :D
Clean, but even lightly steeped it has a bit too much umami for my taste. A bit too vegetal.
This was ALMOST 5 stars, it s a good introductory sencha, but it doesn t have the resteep value as Premier sadly. It lasts at most 2 resteepings, and even the second isn t that great.
One of my favorites, but too expensive. If you are not sure- buy the smallest amount and FOLLOW the water temperature!!! Boiled water kills the flavor!! If you don’t have tea kettle with temperature control - don’t use any green tea since you are loosing the essence of those teas- the flavor!
Smooth taste. This tea is great hot as well as cold.
There is something that I feel is missing with this green tea compared to the Sencha Premier, and I can t quite explain what it is. This tea is definitely a simpler green tea and doesn t have the same depth of flavor as I like from other teas, but it also doesn t get as bitter. A good intro green tea if you re just starting to try them.
I continue to use this more often than any other tea. The steamed green flavor is fresh, This remains my favorite tea. I make it stronger for early morning and bring out the buttery aroma and flavor. During the day it stays iced in the refrigerator. Evenings are usually milder with a touch of the tea honey.
Heartier green, sweet flavor than Sencha Premier. I tend to drink this mostly during the day when I'm on the run. It's flavor isn't lost when using in iced tea.
great classic green tea that's smooth but still preserves that grassy flavor, taste like freshly mowed grass! Just kidding... it is lively and has more character than most green teas that i've tried and I really appreciate it's distinct quality. It features a wonderful bright green color and although it does have some moderate astringency brewed 180 for 3 minutes it's still a lot smoother than say green tea bought from popular brands like stash.
I personally think it's over-rated, but its very popular.
very nice green tea, will probably order again sometime
When I opened the pouch, the smell of this tea was heavenly. However, once brewed it did not taste as good. It’s a lovely golden color, mild and not as fishy as other green teas I’ve reviewed.
Fantastic green tea! It also makes a great second cup
Just my type of tea. I watched my steeping time and it came out perfect. Very classy and perfect to serve company.
Very earthy taste, smooth if made right. This one will always be a favorite!
I did some research on different types of Japanese Green Tea to find one similar to what they serve you at most Japanese restaurants I have been too. I was happy to find most of them available here on Adagio and they're amazing! Got to try them all if you love green tea.
Smooth and fresh. A great way to start the day! I ordered a sample and I will be ordering more.
My favorite greet tea, slightly grassy and crisp and refreshing
I liked this quite a bit, it does pack a punch. I'd recommend 30 second for first steep. Nice flavor.
A smooth and creamy immaculate green tea that really helps kickstart your day in a heavenly way. I first tried Sencha as a pre-packaged bag from a Japanese grocery store in Manhattan and that is where I first found myself really gravitating towards the traditional Japanese green teas. The Adagio blend of Sencha has a fuller body than the manufactured bag and overall it s essential sipping for any green tea fan.
This tea is an interesting one, and one that should be tried at least once. It has a grassy smell when first opened. I found the flavor to be between grassy and herbal, but the scent was really the star of this tea. It was finicky to steep though: it gets really burnt and bitter tasting if the water is too hot!
This tea has a very fresh quality to it! I’d call it light and breezy!
Wonderfully delicate tea. Don’t oversteep, but if you don’t the second steeping is decent as well
I think angels started singing when I first drank this tea. Incredibly light, especially considering its strong aroma. Probably my favorite non-jasmine green.
Very nice earthy tea, holds up to multiple steepings quite well.
excellent regualr green tea for everyday drinking. enjoyable.
This tea makes me so happy. When I get loose Japanese tea from the Japanese grocery, a lot of them have a very badly aged fishy taste. If your experience of Japanese green tea has been marred by your local Japanese grocery like mine, try this. It ll fix everything.
This is a strong green tea full of flavor and color
Such a wonderful sencha! It brews up beautifully with some grassy notes that aren't too overpowering
Tasted this as part of a communiTEA sampler. I have never tasted a green tea that I like, and this one is no different. If you like green teas, you may like this one as it tastes very much like green teas. The mouthfeel is thick and brothy. Tastes like buttery grass.
This is really nice. It both smells and tastes like calm. Light and pleasant and enjoyable. It held up well to a second steep, too. (3 mins @ 165ºF)
