As green teas go (and not being a fan of greens) this was not unpleasant. There was a nuttiness that was appealing, and the taste felt less earthy than a lot of greens.
Green tea from Japan that is rendered brown by roasting Bancha (a summer crop tea, harvested after Sencha) tea leaves. An Adagio customer favorite, with a toasty nutty flavor and slightly mesquite note. Earthy and warm quality, soothing finish.

Sweet, grassy, earthy, seaweed goodness. None of it was overwhelming. All of it worked together to make a smooth, not bitter, cup of tea.
This is a lovely green tea with toasty and nutty goodness. I like a little green tea honey in this and will sometimes make a latte depending on my mood.
As someone who does not care for most green teas I was skeptical about this tea. The aroma when I opened the packet did not alleviate my concerns. Imagine my surprise when I tasted it and decided I really liked it.
It does have a toasty flavor and a mild earthiness to it. It is a comforting flavor like a cup of soup on a chilly day perfect for sipping next to a campfire with a bunch of friends.
AMAZING! i absolutely love this tea.
Very interesting tea. It has a beautiful coral color on the pour and a brownish color in the cup, reminiscent of a rooibos. The flavor is like if a pu erh or oolong had a baby with a green tea. Nutty and sweet with a little grassy undertone. This is a good one.
One of my favourite meal teas, tastes fresh and a hint of smokey
I get a tongue-tickling sensation while drinking this tea. The flavor is slightly roasted and delicious.
I love this tea! If you're new to green tea and are a frequent black tea drinker, this is a fantastic tea to start with. The toasted flavor is really nice and helps to ease the fact that you're not drinking as much caffeine.
Nice green tea with a very nice flavor. I liked it.
This is one of my absolute favorite teas... I'm stretching out my sample bag as long as humanly possible but definitely going to order a larger bag with my next order. The scent is toasty and sweet, the flavor similar. It almost reminds me of the charred portion of a roasted marshmallow. Just thinking about it is making me salivate. You can't go wrong with a big bag of this tea, its so unique and delicious. You won't regret it.
Earthy, musty. This tea is more savory than a typical green tea; somewhere between a typical green and black tea.
love the umami flavor and the roasted flavor goes well together @adagioteas
this tea smells lovely and is overall a pretty average cup @adagioteas
Great roasted taste, light overall and enjoyable. Will buy again
I love using this to make my own tea blends. It is my most used @adagioteas
Really enjoyed this tea and especially its earthiness. Definitely recommend.
I had hojicha from another brand and was very pleased with Adagio’s. The roasted flavor comes through strong, allowing for two or three good steepings. I’ll be ordering more.
I really enjoyed this as a milk tea! It’s less grassy than if it were matcha!
I loved this tea. What an interesting green tea that is actually brown in color due to the roasting. The smell of the leaves reminded me of wood roasting, and the taste was wonderful with an earthy, nutty aftertaste. This has become a staple in my tea cabinet. @adagioteas
It's okay. Nothing too exciting. I wasn't so excited over it that I would purchase again.
I really enjoy the oolongs from Taiwan, both the Jade Oolong and the browner Formosa Oolong. I enjoy the Japanese greens. It might seem like this 'brown' green Japanese tea would be a good fit, then, but it's just okay. It's not as fresh as Japanese greens nor as malty and fruity as the darker oolongs, and I don't really enjoy its slightly smoky flavor.
I was a little nervous when the bag said it had an earthy flavor (I'm a fan of sweeter teas). Hojicha surprised me with a softer flavor. The flavor was more nutty and just a hint smokey.
great great GREAT tea! its got a nice woody, earthy flavor, with a nice toasty taste to it. the flavor is richer than other teas and holds up well on its own @adagioteas
Ive been testing green teas for a little bit i bought all the samples that are base tea with no add ins so i can figure out which one i liked the most and this was a clear winner strong smooth with a pinch of nutty i cannot recommend trying it enough
One of the easiest to drink teas. It is great to use as a mixture with other teas. Warm smokey flavor.
I really like pairing this tea with desserts, as the roasted flavor of this tea counterbalances and complements sweetness so well.
This might be a new favorite for me. I used this in a blend with a floral white tea, and it was a perfect, earthy counterbalance to the light floral flavors. I had to try some on its own and I was not disappointed. Warm, earthy, and rich, it s good on its own or with some honey. @adagioteas
moderate and perfect for boosting energy! definitely a taste that takes some getting used to
Loved this tea very much. It’s one thing to try tea but roasted tea just adds a whole other level of depth in flavor. It adds a much more present, robust roasted flavor to the tea that can’t be found in regular tea. Highly recommended even just trying a sample @adagioteas
I purchased this in the sample size. It was fine but didn't make the finalist list for me. Just not remarkable in any way.
Great earthy/nutty flavor and no need to add any sweetener as its naturally sweet.
I was blown away by how luscious a brew from these dry brown leaves. Earthy and nutty with a smooth finish. It wasn't too smokey. Delicious.
I friend bought this tea for me and i wasn t so sure at first as i m not the biggest green tea fan. But i love it, it has a wonderful warm toasty aroma and taste. As i daily black tea drinker, this one definitely blends right in. UPDATE: Gave some to my mom and she cant get enough! Best green tea ever.
This, along with the genmai cha are my two favorite green teas, I think because they have less of that grassy flavor and more of a malty sort earthiness.
A nice toastiness to the tea. I brewed it cold overnight. It's very distinct compared to other teas and you can definitely tell it's wheat-y. It reminds me of mugicha (barley tea) but is not as bitter.
Wonderful! From the scent of the tea to the taste, I was not disappointed! It was somewhat smoky, somewhat sweet. It goes great with dinners, or just after a long night. (1/2 tsp sugar or honey.)
It was pretty good! I like green teas of all sorts so I was very excited to try it! It was also the first tea that I tried in my teapot, it resulted in a well roasted and full bodied brew! Delicious!
Absolutely love the taste of this tea! It's so cozy and warm. If you're a fan of teas like genmaicha I think you'd like this one.
Very unique green tea. Much more earthy than I am accustomed to.
Has a nice, almost malty flavor. Fuller-bodied than most green teas.
This is so delicious and toasted. It reminds me very much of the kukicha roasted twig tea I have had. It is a very unique flavor, not like a green tea at all, but so good. I get 3 or 4 steeps out of it, it goes a long way. A favorite! Even though it's still summer, I could see this being a very good cold-weather tea.
I like this, I've been blending it with my decaf cinnamon hazelnut along with caramel rooibos (I made it into a blend-My cup of Joe) and it's fantastic! Normally, I'm not a fan of black tea at all, but this blend mellows it out and the green tea peeks though with a bit of 'toasted grassiness'. I sweeten it with a bit of honey, and yummy! It makes for a really nice flavorful blend. Its pretty good with a touch of almond milk too.
Looks more like a brown tea when brewed, but taste really good.
Love this tea. It has a warm toasty, borderline savoryness to it that I really enjoy. Very different from other green teas, but less astringent than black teas. Nice comforting midday or morning tea.
And earthy tasting tea that I would only drink every once in awhile. Not bad, but not one of my favorites.
This is really one of my favorite teas. I like that I can get a few steeps from one teaspoon.
Wanted a green tea with the maltiness of an Assam, found exactly what I was looking for. Very slight grassy flavor to give it it s uniqueness.
My favorite green tea. Nice, smokey taste. Reminds me of a good cigar. Sometimes I put a shot of bourbon in it before bed.
The leaves get a little beat up in the bag and cause some breakage and powder to form over each leaf and settle to the bottom of the cup if not using a steeping bag. Quality is pretty mid-tier compared to other vendors Hojicha we have ordered in the past. Flavor is great though.
