Great tea!
Steamed green tea from Japan. Gyokuro is among the finest of Japanese teas. Deeply sweet, aroma of freshly buttered greens - no grassiness or harshness. Soft on the palate with a balanced, delicate finish. Soothing and centering cup of tea.

Great tea!
The description of this tea sums it up well. I find it to be a satisfyingly grassy, seaweed-y, sipping green tea. No sweetener necessary. It took me half a dozen attempts to acquire a taste for this one and to figure out my perfect tea to water ratio. I usually get up to 3 steeps from it. Beyond that, I’ll leave what’s left in my infuser when adding the next batch of whatever tea I’m making. ~ ~ I’ve read that the spent Gyokuro leaves are good in savory recipes. If you haven’t tried them before, try eating your gyokuro leaves after steeping. A few ways I’ve had them: straight out of my infuser with no add-ins, mixed with rice or quinoa and a little soy sauce and sesame seeds or oil, and sprinkled on my breakfast eggs. They’re also great in your favorite ramen, or any soup really, as a seaweed or baby spinach substitute. Just a few ways to get the most out of such a special tea!
The smell of a grassy meadow after a soft rain comes from the CommuniTea packet. There is a slight nuttiness to the aroma, as well. The leaves steep into a beautiful golden/pale green. What a delicious flavor this tea has - pure and sweet - like young green sprouts (in fact tiny green pieces float in the tea as I drink). Ohh this is so good, and needs no additions. It also has a smooth mouthfeel, zero astringency, and a fresh, clean finish. I steep it several times so I can drink it cold. This is going on my wishlist. (1st steep: 3 mins @ 160ºF, subsequent steeps: 2 mins @ 160F).
I first tried this in the green tea sampler and loved it so much that I immediately purchased it on its own. This is worth the price tag!
tastes really nice with a bit of sugar, first time i drank i oversteeped it and it didnt taste too good, but the second time i made sure to time i properly :)
This is a tea everyone should try. You may or may not like it, but it's worth it to experience. Of course, it's also a finicky tea, so here's how I think you can best use those 14g of tea in a sample to experience all the ways you can enjoy gyokuro.
I recommend brewing 3g of tea in 90g of water, and this will give you four separate initial brews, and you can re-steep each of them up to three times. This tea really does change its entire character based on how you brew it, so don't be afraid if it's awful the first time! The temp/time combinations are:
100ºF for 3 minutes
120ºF for 2 minutes
140ºF for 1 minute
160ºF for 30 seconds
I enjoy the hot and fast method--it gives it a clean, fresh, slightly grassy taste. The lower temperature brewing gives it a really intense umami, with very little grassy taste--which makes it the more commonly preferred method, as far as I understand it. I hope this helps you enjoy this spectacular tea!
One of my favorite green teas out there. The body is light and the flavor is quite earthy (grassy?). Definitely a treat to drink this once in awhile for when the day calls for it.
Mild green with a bold flavor. Preferred warm not hot.
Delicious, just wish it wasn’t so expensive. Tastes perfect in my ninja coffee and tea maker on the green tea setting.
This is very high quality green tea, the leaves have an incredible aroma that is unlike other's I've tried. High recommend.
I love this tea! I had one I used to buy and could never find anything similar once they discontinued it. It's that perfect green tea flavor with a bit of earthyness to it. I'm so glad to find a replacement.
Update: found some other green teas on here that don't have as much bite to it or earthiness and are very smooth. I'll be exploring more green teas very near in the future.
Adagio is Good to Us~ this Tea is a Perfect Green Tea! I recommend VelociTea pot to steep it correctly.
Another good choice for a standard flavor that mixes well with fruits.
Pretty much the platonic ideal of green teas, for me. Wish it weren't so pricy, but I understand why it is. Well worth it!
My favorite green right now. Love the smell as I pour hot water over the leaves. Sets my day. Less intense on re steep, but hits just fine.
Gyokuro is known as one of the best green teas for a reason- and this is a great price for it. Full of flavor, so delightful.
Great tea, but a bit too pricey to buy regularly. Otherwise, it would be a great daily tea. Mellow and smooth, not as sweet as other brands of gyokuro. Easy to oversteep and gets bitter quickly. Can use the same leaves a few times with little to no diminished quality.
Just like I remember it! Gyokura, sweet, slightly vegetal, and just strong enough but not too much.
This is what I consider to be one of my favorite teas and have been drinking it for years. But, this last batch is awful. It is completely bitter and has a disgusting flavor. I even tried it by adding water with no steeping time and still undrinkable.
So much flavor. Still my favorite green tea from adagio.
I did some research on different types of Japanese Green Tea to find one similar to what they serve you at most Japanese restaurants I have been too. I was happy to find most of them available here on Adagio and they're amazing! Got to try them all if you love green tea.
We got three good steeps out of this tea. Very light and easy drinking.
This is a quality Gyokuro tea, and I drink it often. I adore the bright green color, and the buttery-green taste. It s not harsh and grassy like other similar teas. Be careful not to oversteep this one!
A good tasting tea, more subtle than the types of green teas. There's a nice natural sweetness to it. Note that it's not the full leaf rolls that I've seen other places, rather it's broken leaves that are a pretty green.
As a green tea geek, gyrokuro is one of the best. Silky, even sultry. The Marilyn Monroe of green teas. :) It's pricey but worth it. Like wine, after brewing let it sit for a few minutes for the flavors to blend and fully come to life.
This one was not one I appreciated. Tasted like hot leaf juice or lawn clippings, which is not my preference.
It's pretty good, but given its price and the need to wait for the water temp to get to 160, I don't think I'll buy more than the sample. I would compare it's flavor to sencha premier.
This is my #1 green tea. I can never get enough of it. It has a nice full flavor, buttery even. It's very soothing and I drink it near everyday.
(1:45 min @ 165F)
Tried it 2x once at recommended temp and once at 155°, both seemed a lot more astringent than I was expecting and liquor was more yellow-green like a Sencha. A lot more marine/seaweed flavors than I was expecting too. Other gyukoros I've tried much sweeter and much more umami with very dark green liquor, glad I only got sample size.
Gyokuro tastes like what I would expect expensive green tea to taste like. Better in a pot and poured into small cups than as your tall cup in the morning.
Hands down, the best tea I've had in my life, and I worked for Teavana. Needs to be steeped lower temp and less time than suggested. Rich umami flavor, like a broth, but with natural sweetness. Delightful hot or iced, sweet or unsweet. Pairs nicely with chicken, stir fry, and smoked meats.
The flavor of this tea is smooth and delicious. Smells great.
It’s ok, not as flavorful as sencha green tea that I much prefer to this. Not bad; I would drink it again but it wouldn’t be on my list to purchase.
I bought this tea for my mother when she visits, because she drinks mostly green tea and I didn't have any. But I was pleasantly surprised to like it so much myself! There is no grassiness or bitterness. The tea is mild, and the flavor profile changes with every infusion (I usually do at least three). I steep for 2 minutes at much lower temps than recommended (125-140F, usually first steep is the lowest temp, then higher with subsequent steeps).
My favorite green tea from adagio. I love this both hot and iced
First time ordering this tea. I really enjoy it and drink it regularly.
Very broth and umami but requires very particular brewing
I liked this a lot, very different than other greens I've had, so a nice change of pace. Very umami, almost more like a broth than a tea.
If the color 'Forest Green' had a flavor, this would be it. I don't know how else to describe it other than Deep. Dark. Green. No marine notes, it's more like being lost in the woods.
I did not enjoy this. It tastes almost exactly like spinach when you follow the brewing instructions.
The flavor is very good but also very light at 165 degrees for 2 minutes (per the instructions). I would like it to have a little more flavor. I may use more tea but stick to the time/temp.
One of the best green teas I've ever had. I this is my go-to green, which I've been searching for for years.
Only okay. It was fine, but it didn't 'wow' me—not sure why.
The first tea I ever had and I love it. Pretty much the only tea I drink!
Good green tea! Good flavor and not bitter. Definitely looks and feels fancy compared to some other green teas.
My first experience with gyokuro and it definitely won't be my last.
I really enjoy this tea's umami flavor, I haven't tried any other versions of this tea so I don't have a great point of comparison but will definitely be picking up a full size.
I love this tea! It’s very subtle but the grassiness reminds me of a good olive oil which may sound weird but it works. The only negative is its price.
This was a nice green tea bit didn’t have much If a wow factor for me.
This is one of my favorite green teas. With the high price I won’t be able to order Gyokuro too often.
