I first tried this by brewing at the recommended temperature/time and it was terrible… super bitter. When I brewed at 140 for 90s (5g to 170ml water) this tea became awesome! Sweet and savory in a single sip! Was able to get three good steepings out of it.

A lovely vegetal green tea. Was able to get a second steep which was almost as good as the first.

Ordering this tea was a mistake. Because it ain't cheap... but BOY is it good. It very well might be the best green tea I have ever had.

Probably my favorite green tea from this site. Seems to have some extra caffeine too.

Green vegetable, floral and slightly nutty. A phenomenal tea I'd drink everyday if I could afford it!

The umami flavors are out of this world!
A very rich cup of tea

Extremely similar flavor to that of ceremonial matcha, albeit the intensity is obviously not comparable. You're paying for the number of steeps that can be performed (easily 3-4 times), not the amount of tea you get. Easily the best green tea I've had so far.

Very vegetal and grassy. A palate cleanser for sure, but wonderful

Such a rich and delicious tea. Great for anyone who loves an earthy green tea. I taste the grassy and seaweed-y notes the most. It has a really velvety mouth feel and I really enjoy how it can be re-washed a couple times.

Great quality for the price. I’m a gyokuro fan on a budget and the 16 oz price point allows this daily indulgence without skimping on quality or taste. Flavorful and balanced. Consistent richness on a re-steep.

This is a very smooth tea. There is a notable sweetness to it, which surprised me. I don't usually taste the sweetness others describe very teas having. Would also agree with the butter notes. It's very pleasant. New favorite for sure!

Really great tea. It was the first time I ordered. Will reorder again and again and again and again.

I bought this as a gift for a family member who really loves green tea, and she’s said it tastes very soothing! I got to try a cup with her and can agree that the taste is very cozy. I would indulge and buy this again for her.

This tea is best made with cooler temperature water about 170 degrees (right at the beginning of the green section if using variable kettle), and unlike my first cup which tasted to me a little too much like evergreen leaves, this cooler temp. and steeping for about 2 minutes, with a full teaspoon of loose leaves per 7-8 oz water, yields a full-bodied, pleasurably naturally sweet green cup.

This is usually my morning go to cup. I got a new batch since my last one seemed a little bitter. I decided to try it again. Today The tea is back to its usual standard. It’s buttery and light. 😊

I can now see why this one is more expensive than the other Japanese greens because my goodness it is fine! A warm, rich flavor - and so vividly green!

Everyone in my household loves this green tea. We have tried so many types and Gyokuro is always the winner.

I got this for my husband to try along with the sencha premier. While both a beautiful bright green and offer distinct flavors, I specifically wanted the gyokuro for the higher amount of L-theanine. My husband says that he notices the effects of consuming L-theanine with less cups when drinking the gyokuro. I still supplement with herbal teas and capsules, but perhaps with the addition of this tea into my day I wouldn't have to take the Isolated L-theanine anymore. It's much better to eat or drink from a whole food source!

Excellent quality. A little more dusty than I would like, but I know that is part of it. Overall I am very satisfied with the tea as it is my Number 1 favorite type of tea. The umami is very noticeable along with steamed greens. This give way to a touch of astringency associated with the leaf particles. I consistently purchase this tea. Good for at least 2 infusions.

As soon as I opened my bag of Gyokuro, I could smell it, which was interesting because I normally can't smell. It had, like, a forest-y incense smell. I brewed it hot with burdock and green tea honey. It was a strange color by time I took the steeper out, what I would describe as a dark yellow. I let it cool, took a sip, and... it tasted like... freshly mowed grass??? I am so confused by this taste that I don't even know what to do with it. It's not bitter, it's not bad, but it is such a strong taste of grass that I have to knock it down a couple pegs. I will have to try to brew this one differently at least one more time. At this point in time, I'm on the fence about recommending this tea purely because of the smell and grassy taste.

A delicious green tea. It has less of a grassy/alfalfa flavor than a gunpowder green tea. It’s more mild and almost buttery.

The best green tea I’ve ever had, so good and smooth by itself, paired with something sweet on the side rather than sweetener on the inside, taste very much like matcha as well, I’m pretty sure they’re made from the same plant and matcha is grounded up.

The green tea of green teas. I enjoy some Chinese greens but definitely prefer the lighter touch of the Japanese teas, and the gyokuro is the best Adagio offers. It requires nothing but the leaves and the water it is steeped in, and if not for the price tag it would be my go-to daily brew.

★★★★☆

Really good solid green tea! Lively green color too!

★★★☆☆

I'm sure this is a good tea, just not for me. It has a nice, grassy/umami flavor that I like from my green teas, but the flavor is very faint and delicate. I feel like if I poured myself a glass of hot water and thought about green tea I could get mostly the same experience. If you like a delicate green tea, this is for you, but if you're looking for something bolder I'd try something else.

It's the earthy, buttery Gyokuro I remember. The Adagio instructions don't really do it for me, but the old Teavana instructions work great - 30 seconds at 175F. I was surprised that the first brew was not bitter like it's supposed to be, but that's just an added bonus.

This beautiful dark green tea is one of my favorite green teas to enjoy. I double up the amount of leaves I normally use to brew this particular tea. When steeped the liquor is medium shade of green. It has a bit of a sweetness on the finish. A complex cup of tea with the umami flavor I enjoy in green tea without the grassiness. A mellow green tea without bitterness and a smooth mouth feel. Good for several steeps and the leaves are delicious with soy sauce after being finished making tea with them. Excellent tea and value.

I love this one. It is so, so delicious. It looks like freshly dried grass clippings out of the bag. Brewed at 2 minutes/162, the liquid was a lovely pale chartreuse with a small amount of sediment. The smell and taste, to me, is indescribable. I know people compare it to spinach water and call it grassy and vegetal...I'm too much of a noob to really know the difference but to me it tastes buttery and green. More like freshly steamed vegetables or seaweed, with almost no astringency. I've seen people say they eat it when they are done brewing it, and I think I'm going to try that, with some rice, a little sesame oil, and some soy sauce! Yum.

An excellent full-bodied green tea without any harshness found in other green teas. Does not lose much strength with multiple infusions.

Dry tea smells quite vegetal. Once brewed, the resulting cup has a pale yellow-green liquor.
When hot, the tea is very vegetal. I can taste the seaweed notes that also remind me of spinach, which are more pronounced when warm. Subsequent steeps seem more buttery and less leafy.
Brewed for 2 minutes at 165, 3 infusions. Also tried eating the spent leaves, which were very reminiscent of spinach.
