I have had severy Gyokuro teas from different vendors and I would rate this one at a good.
Steamed green tea from Japan. Gyokuro is among the finest of Japanese teas. Deeply sweet, aroma of freshly buttered greens - no grassiness or harshness. Soft on the palate with a balanced, delicate finish. Soothing and centering cup of tea.

This is by far the absolute best green tea on earth. I think I prefer Japanese green tea to Chinese green tea. I love the fresh 'green' quality of the leaves and aroma. Those who don't like that just don't understand Japanese green tea. Full bodied flavor, yet delicate and complex. I could go on and on... This tea has become my new expensive must have! It's worth every penny!
I think I'm simply not a gyokuro fan. But I will give other teas in same category a try for comparison.
I just performed a blind taste test with my wife, a Japanese national, with 4 different varieties of green tea: sencha premier (Adagio), gyokuro (Adagio), a high quality but 'regular' sencha from a local grocery store, and sencha of unknown quality we received from a friend. For the test, we used 3g of each tea and 8oz of water.
Her response was 10/10 for the Gyokuro, which she absolutely loved, and 5/10 for the other 3 teas. So, based on this: If you want the best tea get the Gyokuro. If you want good tea at a reasonable price, skip the sencha premier, and get the regular sencha. I cannot recommend the sencha premier
Very nice tea. A little bit goes a long way. This tea handels over steeping like a champ. The flavor an aroma are wonderful. The only downfall is that the leaves are so small that unless you have a mesh infuser they can leak through.
This green tea has a very unique taste to it. It is the best green tea I've ever tasted only when at the right temperature with the right time.
Like many, I expected alot from such a premium tea. The quality is phenomenal and the taste is superb. The issue, although not unpleasant for me, is the odor; I would describe this as the smell of cooked spinach. Again, I can look beyond this, but it should be considered when considering to order this. Still an excellent green tea.
Brewed up a little stronger than I like, but otherwise, a decent flavor.
Reminds me of sencha premier but not as good. For the price, you might as well go for the premier... It tastes like the premier but a little grassier.
This was a good tea, but not too superior than the sencha (which is cheaper)
Not too much to comment about. This is a pretty decent Green tea.
It's now one of my favorite green teas. Definitely NOT a bitter tea - if you oversteep a little, it's still good. I also love how it colors the water a beautiful bright green! It's a pleasure to drink and to look at.
A high-quality Gyokuro. It brews a very nicely colored cup and has a slightly sweet finish.
Among the freshest, most regal flavors of all the green teas I've ever tried. You can just taste all the trouble that went into growing it.
This tea is a little more powerful than Sencha, and I found it a little more bitter. Although it is fresh and splendidly vegital. For a more delicate tea, try Sencha.
I love the teas (Gyokuro, Snow dragon and Anteadote)purchased from Adagio.
A nice way to to narrow down which teas you might like to order in more quantity. The secret is to informally 'grade' each tea (A's, B's, C's will do) so that actually remember which tea to reorder.
It was a good sample; however, it was a little to grassy for my taste. I will try it again a little weaker, seeing if I like it better.
This is an envigorating tea that really does make you feel like you are downing a heaping plate of green leafy vegetables...I don't mind the aroma, though, that some people have described as spinachy. It is especially good in the afternoons or with a light meal (and divine as an accompaniment to sushi--especially with avocado!).
Nice green tea; it has a strong green taste to it. If you like teas more delicate then you might not prefer this one.
I thought it was nice. Full body, nice first steeping (I am a multi-steeper). My only wish is there might be more options in the gyokuro.
It has a full bodied taste and the color is excellent. This is one of best green teas i've had so far, but the price keeps it a special occasion tea.
Beautiful green tea with a sweet and mild taste. Take care to have the temperature just right and you will be rewarded with a truly soothing drink.
I thought it would be a little better for the price, but it seemed to me just a bit too grassy.
Wow. I struggled with this tea for quite a while--and I concluded that it was far too grassy. I am not an expert in green teas, so I realize this might be naive on my part, but it was far from my first green, and unfortunately, it was the most disappointing. It had an overwhelming spinach flavor to it once brewed--a somewhat disturbing quality. After a pot, I was almost convinced I HAD spinach tea!
Not sure about this one. My first impression was that it tasted a bit sea-weedy?? I'll give it another try and post my second thoughts...
This tea is defiatly worth the money for the experienced tea drinker.
Found the smell and the taste replusive. Reminded me of spinach.
The gyokuro is a pleasant green tea. More for during a meal than anytime else.
This brewed a beautful light cup, that was flavourful without being overpowering.
I was slightly disappointed in the quality of the leaf - it was very broken and dusty. The scent of the dry leaf was good though.
The best green tea I have ever tasted. Just a nice, mellow flavour. Very restful. Absolutely worth the price.
This is one of few best green teas I ever tasted. I enjoy sipping it along with my minty ice cream on a hot day.
Also a great tasting green tea but not worth the price, dont notice a huge difference in taste.
Amazing! I love green tea and this is awesome. It can never be strong enough for me, and this tea was perfect.
this is the first time i try japanese green tea. i really love this tea. the color is so beautiful, smell good and taste like what i expected how green tea should taste like. you will love it, i got the sample this time, i am ready to oder the 5 oz.
A truly special tea. It's delicate, but maintains an assertive flavor. A good choice for those who appreciate the distinctive taste and character of a Japanese green tea.
Please bear with a newbie, this being my first tea experience beyond ordering iced from a restaurant. I chose this variety based upon all the favorable reviews from this community, so this is my benchmark to which I'll compare all others. That being said, my first experience was a pleasant one (hence the 'good' rating), and I look forward to expanding my horizons.
The sweet flowery smell of the leaves doesn't translate exactly into the cup but it's still a very smooth yet powerful (wake you up) green. The price keeps it a special occasion tea.
Absolutely fantastic. Very delicate and clean. Close your eyes and your in Japan sipping away ...
This is awesome tea! I love the bright green liquid which these dark green leaves produce.
It has a full bodied taste and is excellent. This is one of best green teas i've had so far.
Amazing green tea. Smells of freshly cut grass. taste and looks like it was plucked off the plant and put right into the Adagio tin.
I love this tea. Tastes great. Although the color of the infusion is yellow, instead of the signature jade color of gyokuro.
This is an incredible green to try- it is a rich, jade green and is packed with Japanese green flavor.
This tea cost more than the dragonwell, so I was expecting more from it, but the dragonwell still taste better and cost less
This tea tastes like the matcha we have in my Japanese tea ceremony class, but milder - and of course it isn't whipped like the matcha is. I like it a lot.
Top of the line green. Same subtile flavors as powdered Japanese ceramonial tea. Second infusion also very good. Worth the price. In a different league from average green teas.
Go with the green exotica sampler first. If you like some of those, you'll love this one. If you don't, this one will not impress.
One of the most delicious green teas I've ever tasted; no additions (honey/sugar) necessary.
Grassy, sweet & yummy. My favorite green.
