Gunpowder Customer Reviews

A classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. Gunpowder, as the name implies, is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness.

The description is pretty accurate on this one. It is a good green tea, a little smoky flavor. I prefer a cleaner tasting green tea like dragonwell but well worth the price.

I use this mixed in equal parts with Irish Breakfast for Kombucha brewing. love it!

Gunpowder is a good classic green. Not overly strong but has a good flavor when you brew the right quantity

My go to tea; super robust flavor, beautiful golden color: an elixir. The flavor when you stick your face in the bag is INTOXICATING. I have probably 10 - 15 other teas and I still end up drinking this one at least every other day. DK+GP 4ever

As a fairly obtuse, new tea drinker, I enjoyed the fact that I perceived the smokiness of the tea as advertised. I even steeped the leaves twice and enjoyed the second cup.

Moderate 'grassy' taste. Smoky flavor especially when making a heavy cup.

★★★★★

Been my absolute favorite green tea for years, so glad to find it on Adagio and get a good quality bag of it to keep on hand!

★★★★☆

This is a nice cup of green tea. It's your simple no frills cup. I prefer the sleeping dragon, but if you are short on cash this is a fine alternative.

★★★★★

One of my go to teas. I drink it hot and also have success with iced tea

★★★★★

Nice green tea. Love it with honey. Little grassy tasting but it's good

This is a strong green tea! It tastes great but it's easy to over-steep. I never steep longer than 3 minutes and even then I can reuse the same tea leaves and get the same strong flavor!

★★★★☆

Great everyday green, I could drink it everyday! I really enjoy brewing a big batch and keeping it in the fridge.

★★★★★

Just what I was looking for! Classic gunpowder green tea, with bold flavor and a wonderful aroma. One of my every day teas!

A great green tea that I drink almost daily. I enjoy not only the pleasant flavor, but also watching the whole leaves unfurl as they soak up the water.

★★★★★

This is my favorite green tea. It’s earthy, deep, roasted and flavorful. I drink it everyday and it re-steeps up to three times with great flavor.

Very green tea tasting tea. Nice and smooth, with a good irony aftertaste, but that might just be the way I brewed it.

Hits the spot perfectly for an afternoon cup. I add a little lavender to mine and it mixes nicely!

★★★★★

Awesome tea. As good as coffee for getting you going in the morning. It has a great flavor on its own but is also a good base for other flavors like raspberry patch or mint teas.

this is how i learned i don t like smokey teas. surprise

Most tea-flavored tea I think I’ve ever had. It’s almost TOO much green flavor for my liking

This is the best gunpowder green tea that I have had. Far superior in taste and color than the mass produced bagged-tea from grocery markets.

A nice green with a pleasant smoky finish that I'm pleased to forgo my habitual sweetener in.

A favorite! Smokey and satisfying and I love a cup in the afternoon.

★★★★★

This is some good green tea, when I think green tea this is exactly what i'm picturing. Flavor is nice and smooth, and you are able to pull multiple batches from each serving.

Absolutely lovely Iced! It’s not very thirst clutching but that’s quite alright

One of the first teas I tried when starting out. Strong, bold flavor. Has a characteristic “copper” note that grows on you, becoming something you wish other teas had. A true classic.

Good overall, great for the price. Rich flavor, good for every day tea. No need to use extra tea with gunpowder.

This is my favorite tea to cold brew. It mixes well with other flavors such as lychee rose green tea! For my pitcher I aim to add about 9 scoops of tea and if im adding a flavor ill do 6-7 of gunpowder and the rest whatever flavor tea im adding!

I love this gunpowder green tea! Definitely one of my favorites.

★★★★★

my husband loved this tea. Gave him a nice caffeine boost without drinking a bunch of coffee

★★★★★

Strong green! Earthy and grassy with great everyday flavor.

One of my favorite green teas. I'm not a big fan of the very 'grassy' green tea varieties and the gunpowder is not 'grassy'. Has a slight smoky profile.

I'll be honest, I only bought this tea to make Moroccan Mint with. It was absolutely fantastic both in that regard and as a standalone cold brewed tea. Highly recommend!

★★★★☆

Reasonably good. High quality tea for the price, but not as good as some of the more expensive green teas.

Bright grassy notes. Best for afternoon or evening. Don’t make it too strong.

★★★★★

This is a great everyday green tea. I may have to add this to my daily rotation.

Smooth tasting green tea. One of my favorites so far.

★★★★★

Incredible! So smooth. It is the best lunch time pick me up.

★★★★★

I bought this tea for my parents who I have successfully converted into loose leaf tea drinkers as opposed to tea bags! This basic green tea is very rich and has a nicely velvety aroma that carries over to the tea. I would suggest not to over-steep this tea.

Green tea up front, but sort of had a pur-eh flavor to follow. That s not my favorite, but it might be for you.

I like the smokey flavor and it is inexpensive. I blend it with other teas I will buy again.

Bought this make kashmiri pink chai with, still working on getting it right, but the tea is good

★★★★★

One of my favorite green teas. Solid and great if you're blending tea. Gunpowder seems to do well at rounding out other teas. Another perk is multiple steepings turn out very well. I love how the leaves are rolled and unfurl as they steep.

I love this tea! It tastes like tea from a good Chinese restaurant.

★★★★★

This is my favorite. When I get the 16oz bag it is gone in two weeks. Try it, you will love it. This is my daily tea

The coffee of green teas. It was through Adagio’s temperature recommendation that I learned this tea doesn’t have to be bitter! Hotter water= more bitter flavor. I frequently steep for a longer time and sometimes a higher temperature for that extra kick. Good for a re-steep.
