Take this review with a grain of salt because I’m not a big green tea fan. I thought the most prominent flavor was green tea. Didn’t taste the puffed rice or popcorn much
Classic Japanese green tea, blended with toasted, popped rice. Warm, nutty with a lovely savory and hearty quality.

Love this tea! It has a nutty quality that really compliments the green tea.
I have always been a fan of genmai cha, and the Adagio offering is a good take on this classic
Just the right amount of toasted rice to tea ratio!
Too 'toasty' for me. It overwhelmed the tea. I did like the hint of popcorn flavor though.
This is one of my favorite green teas of all time, I'm so glad to have found it here.
this tea was absolutely delicious and I immediately ordered 4oz @adagioteas
I loved this tea. The toasted rice gives a nutty flavor with a light green tea flavor. It’s great as a night time, after dinner tea. I drink this to help aid digestion after a meal. I’ve also steeped it with a few black peppercorns to give another layer of flavor. Very reminiscent of a broth- adding a few herbs or spices will completely transform the cup.
When I don’t want much caffeine, this is one of my favorite go tos. It has a slightly sweet, toasty flavor.
I used to really like genmai cha, but I'm not in love with this one. I think I might be brewing it too hot though, if you are a green tea fan try this at a lower temperature.
This tea is hearty, savory, and full-bodied with round, toasty rice and smooth green tea flavors. Sipping this tea makes me feel full and nourished.
One of my favorite green teas, a really unique earthy taste
A fantastic green tea; before trying loose tea, I was a big fan of the various and bottled varieties of ito en japanese green teas including a genmai cha variety. This felt like the natural next step in my pursuit of these flavors. A very pleasant and savory tea that was very relaxing in the evening and around midday with my lunch.
This is a good genmaicha, though a little saltier than some I’ve tried. Adding a bit of honey softens the saltiness, though, making it a pleasant tea for sipping.
another one of my favorite teas! the green tea is nice, smooth, delicate, and the popped rice gives it a nice roasted, popcorn-y taste and smell. love it! @adagioteas
the toasted rice has a deep, rich taste. An afternoon favorite
I am not too big on green tea, so I wasn't expecting too much. But I did enjoy it.
This is the best tea I have ever tried on the site. Hands down new favorite. Nice smooth and rich flavor. Toasty and inviting. Reminds me of a very expensive tea house. @adagioteas
Toasty, nutty, vegetal, and all around what I expected from this style tea. @adagioteas
I tried this in a sampler and immediately had to buy my own bag. I would describe it as a burned popcorn flavor, which is normally something I would not like but was absolutely delicious in this tea. 10/10, a must-try. I was able to resteep 3 times. I used 175F because that's what my kettle setting includes. On trying the bag, I feel the sampler is the same quality.
Very happy with this brew. Toasty and loosely filling, great if you have small flavor cravings for between meals
Excellent toasted, buttery, and nutty aroma and flavor. Everything you would want out of a genmai cha.
Good quality Genmai Cha. It's exactly as you'd expect. Great at all times of day. It's a bit nutty, a touch savory, and just ever so slightly smokey. It's not bitter at all which I appreciate. The aroma is pleasant and buttery.
Toasty, popcorn-y goodness! A great option for people who typically find green teas to be too bitter, and a wonderful tea to drink with sushi.
This is one of my favorite green teas. The rice puffs give the tea a nice toasty flavor. This is a nice light tea
OK, but not outstanding. Adagio's 'popcorn green' is much nicer and livelier, the genmai cha was somewhat flat in comparison.
This has a light toasty taste. I enjoy a green tea with a little body and Genmai Cha is perfect.
very nutty but light...this is one of my new found favorites @adagioteas
Love the earthy smell and taste of genmai cha. I drank a lot of this growing up and am glad to revisit this old favorite. I'd recommend to anyone who likes green tea.
Adagio's genmaicha is great. Toasty, slightly savory.
This is one of my favorite teas. Similar taste to hojicha
This tea has a very pleasant grassy taste mixed with the slight popcorn flavor that comes with the toasted rice.
very moderate taste with bitter nuttiness. i enjoyed it though
Genmai Cha is an wonderful cup of fun. The rice looks like mini popcorn, providing a nice balance of roasty flavor. Delicious!
Toasty, well-balanced, and with just enough astringency to balance the toast. Delicious.
Prefect representative of Genmai Cha tea. Tates like a typical green with pooped rice notes. Loved this one!
I had never heard of this tea before but wish I had. It’s worth getting the sample as I don’t have a tea I can compare to, but it was a fun new tea to try.
Gemmai Cha is a really comforting, tasty tea. It’s one of my go-to choices.
Smells heavily of the rice with a hint of the green tea. Once brewed, I am getting a smell of seaweed, something I’ve never encountered with tea before. Savory flavor, clean, but still reminds me of those seaweed snack crisps, or even seaweed senbei crackers, and maybe even a hint of salt. It is still good green tea, mellowed out with the rice. The aftertaste really brings out the sweet, nutty rice flavor. As it cools, the seaweed taste turns to a more vegetal taste. It’s pretty tasty and has little astringency on the tongue. Probably a tea I will save for starving guests.
Delicious roasted rice flavor with a gentle earthiness. This is one of my staples.
great tea, its more full bodied than i'm used to, im in love with the jasmine silver needle and the gyokuro, so its definitely pretty full bodied. strong nutty flavor, hit of a popcorn flavor. some sencha flavor in the back, its great.
Logically, I know that this tea has to be better than what I used to get from my old Japanese grocery store, but it is not that much of a step up from most boxed genmai cha I have tried in the past. That said, the toasty flavors come out very nicely upon brewing regardless, so it is still worth the purchase.
One of my favorite green teas to drink. Quite an earthy flavor, with hints of toasted rice. I tend to drink it when I am feeling under the weather. I've had Genmai Cha from other tea shops, but the leaves from Adagio are certainly high quality.
Love the warm, toasty earthy flavor. Will definitely buy again.
I wanted to try something different with this tea with rice bits. It tastes very nutty and I did not finish my sample.
Our go-to green tea. Love the roasty flavor from the rice and popcorn!
Not sure if I would get again, but I like the toasted flavor of this tea. Nice for a rainy, cold day.
This is an absolute family favorite. I got this as a sample a friend sent me ages ago, and finally started using it up recently—only to get half my family hooked on it and drinking green tea by the pot! It’s the first time I’ve ever genuinely liked green tea, honestly. The nutty aftertaste is really, really good. I hadn’t tasted much green tea before this, but I’ve been told this tastes much more like one you would get in a restaurant versus what you would find in a store, so that’s really cool. I’m definitely going to be buying this again and again for my family; would you believe we only drank tea once in a blue moon before this?
If you've ever enjoyed tea in a traditional Japanese restaurant, and then the owners wouldn't tell you what the tea was (not like that's ever happened to me...ahem), this is the tea secret they were hiding. I haven't had this kind of tea since my local Japanese restaurant closed years ago and I missed it so much. It is so refreshing with sushi or just by itself. Note: Pay attention to Adagio's instructions - they know what they're doing! The instructions say 180 degrees at 2 minutes. I like my tea strong so the first time I brewed this, I let it steep for 4 minutes and it was way too strong and astringent. But the second cup...oh, the second cup was glorious. The nutty flavors and full bodied green tea. There is nothing like it in the world and I'm so glad I found it here. It's in my faves forever!
One of the better brown rice teas I've had. Nice full flavor
