This is a great tea both by itself and for blending. Rock sugar and cream added. 195 F x3 min
Bright Ceylon tea with pure vanilla. Soothing and cozy, like warm sugar cookies made with fresh vanilla beans.

This is a great tea both by itself and for blending. Rock sugar and cream added. 195 F x3 min
This can’t get five stars for a simple reason. The decaf vanilla exists! This version of the tea is good, but better suited to blends. The decaf vanilla has less astringency and holds up on its own. If I need to reach for a caffeinated tea, it would probably not be this one straight and plain. That said. It’s still a decent cup, and this tea makes a great supporting cast in a blend!
My two favorite flavors and scents are peppermint and vanilla so this is a lovely black tea. That is also great for blending with other teas! steep at 195° for 2 minutes
The vanilla tea had a nice mild vanilla flavor. I think it would make a good tea to blend with other teas.
This tea has a lovely vanilla flavor that also provides a cream-like mouthfeel. The Ceylon base is a bit tricky though.. Brewing at 194 for 2.5 minutes made for a delicious tea while warm but it became quite bitter as it cooled. Cream or sugar would probably smooth out the bitterness while highlighting the vanilla flavor.
As a non vanilla fan, i wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much! It was a warm fragrant cup. Actual vanilla tasting, not fake.
I very much liked this tea. It was smooth and the vanilla wasn't overpowering. I just have to be very careful with high caffeine teas. Hence the four-star instead of five-star rating.
This tea is delicious! A slightly sweet, creamy vanilla flavor is excellent on its own, but is also great in blends.
can’t complain with this one! nice and simple. the vanilla isn’t too strong and it’s really nice and pleasant. not much else to say. I drank it unsweetened, but i think it could do good with just a pinch of sugar!
A nice subtle brew. I can see why it makes such a great base for so many fandom teas
Exactly what it promises. Vanilla black tea. Good if you're looking for something simple or as a base for a blend.
A simple yet delicious tea. It's decadent with cream and sweetener.
This is a great tea for both drinking and mixing.
I love this Vanilla tea, as others have mentioned the vanilla is not overpowering like you sometimes get with other vanilla teas.
Todays communiTEA was soothing and comforting! I steeped at a lower temp to avoid bitterness...then added a smidge of sugar and creamer. Yum!
Tastes like it says on the tin: like vanilla black tea. Good with cream and sugar!
I really enjoy Adagio's vanilla teas - they always have such a warmth to their flavor, and this one is no exception. As long as you take care not to oversteep, this should reward you with a vanilla-forward cup with a hint of natural sweetness. I always steep flavored Ceylons at Jim's recommended 190° temp and 3 minutes, max, and I've found it's a reliable way to ensure your tea never tips over into being bitter!
UPDATE ; CommuniTEA Packet : Same: Nothing has Changed : Still Delicious!
Old Review : July 14, 2013 : The vanilla black tea is very nice and fun to blend with. I like the smooth, creamy, warm and sugar cookie taste, with the Ceylon base.
I always forget to sweeten the flavored black teas enough! The black does give it a pretty bitter taste, but the vanilla mellows it out in a nice way. After adding sugar, the tea really shines!
The Vanilla tea is smooth, silky and very creamy served with milk and sweetener. This tea is great to blend with other flavors.
The vanilla scent was great in the packet. The vanilla taste was underwhelming in the tea.
Today's packet was too sweet. The vanilla flavoring was overpowering for my 1st cup of tea. I read some people mixed other flavors and I think I would try that next time.
It's a great vanilla. I personally like to mix it with other black teas or drink it with a touch of honey and cream to make it a sweeter, milder flavor.
I really liked this vanilla tea. It would pair well with many other teas to create new blends. I added a little sugar and cream and that enhanced the flavor nicely.
Vanilla is one of my favorite scents and flavors. I would have loved a more powerful vanilla flavor in a tea calling itself Vanilla. I brewed at a lower temp to prevent any bitterness. It was ok, I ended up adding some frothed vanilla creamer to get that wonderful taste I was hoping for.
The vanilla scent when I first opened the bag was heavenly! However after steeped, it wasn't nearly as vanilla flavored ast I would have liked. Still enjoyable, would probably make a great base for a blend. Steeped at 195 for 3 minutes as most of my black teas lately have been too bitter at 212.
This tea certainly delivers on the vanilla. The scent of the vanilla is pungent enough both in the dry leaves and in the brew that one experiences the vanilla of this tea more in the aroma than in the actual taste of the tea. That said, the vanilla adds a smooth creamy feel to the tea, naturally cutting the astringent bite from the darker notes of the black tea without the addition of milk or cream. Of course, adding milk heightens that softening and the addition of sweetener (honey, in my case) brings out the natural sweetness associated with vanilla. The aroma holds up for a second steep, so the tea would make a great addition to blends as well as a good choice for true vanilla lovers. (3-4 minutes @ 200F)
Steeped 2 1/2 minutes at 195 and still noted a tiny hint of bitterness. I can see why this tea makes a perfect addition to make new blends. A little goes a long way. Sip, sip away!
Classic tea flavor; solid on its own, great for blending with other flavors. So versatile. I sampled this tea as part of the CommuniTEA January 2022 box
Ceylon and vanilla, need I say more? A perfect base tea to add anything too. Strong with a little flair.
I love Adagio’s vanilla flavoring, so this tea is a yes for me! It mimics high end Madagascar vanilla to perfection. I actually prefer the decaf version as it is less bitter. The creamy yum of the vanilla shines in a more unfettered way in my humble opinion, but I understand some NEED to get their caffeine on! This is a great classic cup for your morning sip and a perfect note to use in blends. Happy Sipping!
CommuniTEA Sample: Not sure what's going on with this one today. I do taste the vanilla, but even steeped shorter and cooler, it feels like there is just too much flavoring added. A bit artificial tasting today.
Vanilla ice cream
Vanilla sugar cookies
Vanilla candles
Vanilla fragrance
Rich, sweet, lovely, comforting
All in this tea blend
(Haiku review)
Temp: 195
Time: just two to three minutes
A great latte, too!
Wow, this one is great! Brewed at a little lower temp is best. Dash of heavy cream and it is perfect.
Sweet vanilla aroma comes from the brewed cup. The flavor is a rich vanilla with a crisp black tea. The tea is a little bitter and finishes very cleanly.
Vanilla aromas were noted from my communiTEA packet this morning.
I had 4.03 grams of ingredients, enough for a medium strength 16 ounce steep. I steeped at 190°F for the Ceylon black tea for three minutes.
When hot, mild vanilla flavors were noted. Chocolate flavors from the tea were mild. No bitterness was noted. I added ½ teaspoon of sugar to bring out flavors and sweeten tastes.
When warm, moderate vanilla flavors were noted. Pleasantly bitter dark chocolate and toasty flavors were noted from the tea. A smooth mouthfeel was really nice.
A moderate bitterness was noted towards finish. This one wa a very pleasant aromatic sip from start to finish. It would definitely make an excellent flavored tea for use in other blends. (3 mins @ 190ºF, ½ tsp sugar)
There is a simplicity to this tea that is really nice. The vanilla doesn’t overpower the black tea flavor. I made mine with cream and honey.
As a hot tea, the vanilla flavor is not really prominent, but as a chilled tea, more vanilla comes out. This is not really a tea I would enjoy drinking by itself. I like some other Adagio vanilla teas much better (190F, 3min).
This is exactly what it is supposed to be…vanilla flavored tea.
The tea has a lovely vanilla aroma. Brewed at a lower time and temperature to avoid bitterness that some of the reviews mentioned. The tea had a light vanilla flavor but it was too bitter to drink the whole cup.
A delicious vanilla flavored tea.. Uncomplicated with a warm scent and a familiar soft and comforting flavor that blends well with other teas and is very enjoyable on its own too. A sweetener add boosts the soothing taste for a more dessert-like sip..
My CT packet had 4 g/ 2 tsp. of dark tea leaves that were nicely infused with a pleasant vanilla aroma. I brewed 12 oz. at 195*F for 3 min. The medium brown liquor had a much gentler scent than that of the dry tea. No bitterness was detected and I could easily sip the tea plain. A sweetener add of agave, though, boosted the delicious flavor more. The first cup was gone in a flash and so was a resteep of 6 oz. Chilled, this makes for a tasty iced tea. What a wonderful classic flavor to have in the tea stash!
This tea is pleasant, with vanilla taste that is notable without being overwhelming. It has a strong but fleeting Ceylon astringency and a slightly bitter aftertaste, like vanilla extract. Its flavors intensify with cream and sugar, and it is a pleasant sip. Compared to Adagio's cream tea, however, this Vanilla lacks the complexity of flavor and smooth sweetness of the Cream. Where vanilla tea gives short, brisk intensity of taste, cream brings mellow lingering satisfaction with less astringency. So vanilla might be preferred for a lover of strong, harsher teas, but I definitely prefer cream, whether alone or as a latte.
Love Adagio’s Vanilla. It’s wonderful mixed with Wild Strawberry and Blood Orange
Taste is very good and the aftertaste is even better
My new go-to tea. Black tea with a hint of vanilla. Comforting on a cold night.
Nice strong vanilla flavor-great for blending with other teas. Be careful with the steep time and temp as this tea can get bitter pretty quickly.
This tea was very blah to me...just a hint of vanilla present.
This tea has an amazing aroma, both dry and steeped. The reason I'm giving it four stars instead of 5 is that I couldn't taste the vanilla much at all. It was still a great tea, but I was let down the flavor was so subtle when the aroma so heavenly and pronounced.
Love vanilla for blending with other teas--it adds sweetness and creaminess to fruity, floral, and spicy teas. No bitterness noted when steeped at lower temperatures.
don't feel any flavors, a regular black tea without flavor.
