I opened the packet to a strong spice smell. Yup, cloves. I removed all 7 cloves from the mix and steeped 5 min @ 212. There was less spice aroma, but I think I'm not a fan of chai spices, just cinnamon.
Named to honor the rugged cattlemen of the South American pampas, our Gaucho Mate Chai is sure to become a fireside favorite.

A delicous mate with kicking spices! It smooths into a tasty chai tea and is perfect for those mornings you need that extra zing!
Very mild spiced tea. Enjoyed hot with a little honey. Chais always appeal to mev
Actually a win for me! I typically don’t like mate. But I actually enjoyed this! You notice the spicy smell as soon as you open the package. It smelled great! Nice and warm! Not overly over powering on any one spice. If you like chia I suggest you give it a try.
I like the spices in this tea. It is definitely best to drink it hot.
i think my sense of taste is weird. all i taste is the orange LOL i saw apple and lapsang souchong in the ingredients list and was so excited. .still good tho - Lynn
8 oz, 3 mins @ 180* F, cream and sweetener
I enjoy the flavor very much, I just wish it had a fuller mouthfeel. It's a great little tea though, and I could likely adjust to the lightness in mouthfeel if I were to purchase some. However, there are so many other chais out there, that already have a fuller feel that I don't see myself purchasing this one.
Chais can be a bit touch and go for me, but I really like this one.
I open my communiTEA package to a wonderful strong smell of spices and a hint of orange. After some helpful advice of the communiTEA, I follow the instructions of Jim R. to brew my tea. I was expecting a strong flavor, due to the aroma of my package, but I got a very smooth cup. This a very clever combinations of spices that are well balanced; you can taste the notes of cinnamon, cloves ginger and cardamon, but they do not compete with each other. I really like it!
This was such a nice chai! I tend to like most mate teas, and I liked that at this chai blend was more mellow than some of the others Adagio has. Would definitely drink again!
ooh this was not for me. not sure if it was the mate or the anise but too medicinal.
This is a delightful spicy chai that I enjoyed greatly with just a little bit of agave nectar to enhance the spice flavor. I’m away with a travel kettle and my only options were 175 or 195 degrees. I went with the lower temperature and skipped a cool water rinse. When I get home I will try some more using a more exact method. I highly recommend this for chai lovers like me!
This is a good chai tea. The spices are mild at first but then intensify into a warming chai tea. I don't always want the extra kick from mate so will probably stick to black tea chais. However, this is quite good for those who prefer mate. I brewed it at 150 for ten minutes.
Wasn't sure what I was getting since the ingredient list on the packet was wrong. Thankfully, it actually was mate, and as a lover of Monsieur Mate, this cup did not disappoint.
The chai spices were a little tame, but blended well with the mate. It has just enough kick to get me going. xx's and oo's for this one!
A bit lighter than the usual chai but it hits all of the expected spicy notes. Not really the best judge of chai teas but I like it enough.
Not a fan of Mate, but this was ok with the other flavors, so says my tea taster...cocoa nibs XXXXX for me
Very nice with some cream, I could smell the nice aroma from a bit of a distance. Very soothing and I loved the caffeine.
UPDATED from 1/28/22: Ahh the familiar smell of chai spices fills me as the CommuniTEA packet opens. I am alarmed that there are not more ingredients, as I usually like to load up my infuser. It steeps into a cloudy amber hue, and the flavor is a spicy chai, just the way I like it. Luckily the anise (which my tongue does not like) is faint, only adding a depth to the flavor since the cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves whoop it up in grand style. Adding ¼ teaspoon of sweetener to the second cup brings out the natural sweetness more (yes the small amount of ingredients were able to steep a delicious 2nd cup!). I really enjoy this toasted mate. ( 5 mins @ 212ºF + sweetener).
This chai has a very spicy scent, which worked perfect with some pumpkin spice syrup (can find the recipe in Selefina).
Tastes great! I was afraid the spices would overwhelm the brew, but they are well balanced. Less of a caffeine kick than I was expecting.
I am a lover of basically all chai teas, and this was no exception. It was delightfully spicy, and perfect with a splash of milk and dash of turbinado sugar.
This is a great staple to have around. Smooth and nutty, good for any time but especially fall. Great with a splash of milk. A chai I will keep in stock!
This is a good medium chai. If you like a more bold chai, you may not like this one as much. I didn't taste the cinnamon and cloves as much as the toasty flavors.
The cinnamon flavor really comes through. This was a great tea to sample.
Spicy and eye opening! A perfect solution to any weary-eyed predicament.
I tried all the Chai teas. This one was very good! I loved it so much! I will be purchasing this again
This is a nice blend. I like that it's stronger than what I would think of as a chai. Some sugar and cream make it really good
Wow this is good! It's a bit more spicy than some of the other Chai's I've tried, maybe more clove? There is also a light sweetness to it. I have several caffeine free chai teas & am really enjoying this, so I'll be buying a bigger bag to keep around for when I want some pep.
I used a tsp in my double walled infuser mug I got as a gift during the holidays, which holds just a tad less than 8 oz, and added honey & a little cream after steeping 5 mins. It smells & tastes phenomenal!
I need to brew another cup, I don't think I put enough tea in for the size of my cup. If I did, then this is a forgettable tea for me, not spicy enough.
I enjoyed the smoothness and at the same time the spicy of it. I just think that it is missing a little something… not sure… but it was good.
If you like the spice, this one is very, very nice. An excellent mate that's filled with wonderful flavors and steeps twice without a problem.
Great Chai flavor without the caffeine buzz, I make it using Indian Chai method of boiling with milk and sugar.
One of my absolute favorites! Love spicy chai and this doesn’t disappoint. Hate coffee so this is perfect on a morning when I need a little extra ‘pick me up’.
Enjoyable, but not as spicy as I prefer my chai teas. I would certainly buy again.
If your a clove fan like my self this is a Chai for you! This spicy blend is the perfect pick me up when you need to beat that mid-day nap. I personally enjoy the tingling sensation it leaves on the tongue with it's woodsy aftertaste.
Spicy, and fragrant, and smoky, add your milk of choice and it is a wonderful perfumed bliss
Wonderful tea, made a pot of it for my mother, my grandma and I. It was wonderful.
After trying this and then another mate from adagio, I've concluded that the 1 kinda 'off' taste in this that I couldn't get past was the mate. But in this the mate is more of an aftertaste, so it's still an ok chai even if you don't like mate like me.
This is a great chai and the perfect amount of sweet and spice
This one was fun. It was mildly chai tea- esk but not. Definitely its own tea. Almost reminded me of a spice cookie. Good tea to keep you warm.
Great tea even better with vanilla creamer.

This will be another favorite added to my list
This could just as easily be called 'Mate Masala '. The warm spices balance the yerba mate, leaving you raring to go. I brew it extra strong and then ice it.
a ever so comfy toasted mate is present at the the forefront of the palate, followed by a cardamon clove spiked spice. Delicious and unique. The sweet cinnamon roll finishes the line with a hint of licorice trailing behind, making Gaucho the undisputed #1 Chai Tea Champion. You can get a nice caffeine buzz without the acidity of a black tea or a coffee. I recommend a little oat milk and agave to sweeten it up. One of the best chai s I ve ever had. @adagioteas
I like drinking this tea for a pick me up. It tastes really good with honey.
I do luv Chai tea blends! I am tasting my way thru the Adagio collection and Gaucho Mate Chai is ranking top of my list. Full bodied, balanced spices with a peppery kick! Just how I like my chai! I added sweetener and milk and I am convinced it would make a delicious big chai tea latte, I will try that next to prove myself right, lol.
Very good flavor if you’re a fan of mate. Rough around the edges with a smooth finish.
There is just something about Adagio s teas that contain cloves that always taste bitter to me on the first steeping when at 100 deg C. The subsequent steeping were nicer with a toasty spice flavor. @adagioteas
Tastes amazing! If you’re looking for a little bit of chai + Christmas roast + nuttiness this is it. It’s flavorful to the very last drop not just aromatic but oh when people walked into my work place they kept asking what smells so good. I put a little bit of oat milk for creaminess.
This is a very drinkable and friendly medium-bodied chai. Some are heavy like Masala chai and some are light like ones with a white tea base. This one would have been Goldilock's favorite of the three. She chose the middle bed that was neither too hard nor too soft. This chai with a toasted mate base gives the traditional chai spices a toasty lift sans the dark or malty notes of a black tea or delicate and mellow ones of a white tea. The almost coffee-like tea base lets the spices do the heavy lifting while letting them stand on its roasted shoulders.
My CommuniTEA packet had 4 g/ 2 tsp of all ingredients including lots of cloves. I prepared for brewing by awakening the mate per Jim R. who uses a bit of cool water as a wake-up call. A couple of tbsp of cool water was used to gently douse the mate for the time it took me to gather a mug, sweetener, and a spoon. Then came 12 oz. of 185F water (the closest my elec. kettle came to 190F) for the final deluge. 5 minutes later a medium brown liquor with a scent of clove was ready to sip. It tasted pleasantly spicy with an accent of clove (liking clove is a plus) and I felt a tingly sensation at the back of my throat. I didn’t detect any bitterness or astringency and I could sip plain. My sweet tooth, though, always demands that extra something so I used some Adagio black tea honey. The honey added a nice sweet taste, mellowed the clove flavor, and brightened the toasty mate and spicy flavors beautifully. A resteep of 6 oz. was an easy and smoother sip. I did not sweeten this time so I could enjoy the now mellowed spices and gentle tang of mate. This tea will become a welcome addition to my little chai town in the pantry.
This was so yummy. Loved the flavors. Just wish it had a bit less caffeine. But otherwise, a wonderful cup of chai tea.
