Holy guacamole this is a 10 out of 10 and packed with flavor! Earthy and awakening...I have never really been a fan of mate until recently. I am so glad I tried this, I will definitley be adding this to my rotation once the large bags are back in stock.

This is a hearty spiced tea with good body and a forward flavor. It's a little bit brighter than first anticipated and balances out the grassy flavor of yerba mate alone.

This one has a good smell and overall flavor, but I'm not excited about it. Perhaps I'm not a mate fan.

Honestly just very spicy and not sticking out to me all that much. Not bad by any means, just feeling a bit lackluster. May change my mind on a future sip.

Smelled of anise and cloves; tasted warm and lightly spiced. The toasty elements of the toasted mate were a good pairing.

I enjoyed this tea, as I tend to do with chais, but the mate base made it lighter than I'm used to - which threw me a bit. (I think I prefer a black tea base.)

Absolutely amazing! I cracked it open and was instantly like yeees this is going to be so good. I took the first sip and fell in love.

When I was making this tea this morning, my tea infuser ended up coming undone and spilled all of the tea directly into the cup, where they proceeded to sit for a few hours in my thermos while I was working...but this turned out to be quite the happy accident! The flavor was perfectly strong and spicy without being overwhelmingly so! I think this may be my new favorite chai.

The mate and the chai work perfectly together, a delicious cuppa on a cool almost fall day

Sep 9, 2025: Knowing what to anticipate, sure helped my experience and expectations. Mate aside, this is a nice, truly spicy Chai. Bringing a great tingle to my morning cup!
Oct 13, 2023: as far as a Chai goes, this is great... unfortunately that gaucho title leaves me wanting a decent yerba mate flavor, which is severely lacking here.
I was really looking forward to this cup, and it was an unfortunate disappointment.
I will need to regroup my expectations and enjoy it simply as a naturally sweet chai.

Andrea: I love the mate base to this chai. It survives the hot long brew chai needs to bloom so much better than black tea. That said, this particular mix is a bit too spicy for me. It's intense, but well balanced and rich with whole milk and brown sugar. It was mostly burny hot spices plain. Given this was a portion packet, our cup may have been overburdened with spice. Especially clove of which we had at least 4.
Lynn: Warm and comforting as a spiced tea should be. I'm not a fan of chai typically, but this wasn't bad. Too many cloves for me. I'm no cowboy and would like a less manly tea I guess. Way to spicy as brewed, still a little too spicy as a latte. Still, the lack of over brewed tea leaves really improved the taste of this chai for me. I'd be interested in another mate chai.

We are trying this as a part of Communitea - the scent of this tea is very strong, but the flavor is lighter than you would expect. We tried this tea without adding anything, it tastes a little like a cinnamon scented pinecone.

Such a good chai today in CT. This also confirmed my suspicion that toasted mate was going to be much more enjoyable in blends as I was not a fan of it by itself. This one hits most of the usual fall flavors pretty evenly with cinnamon maybe being slightly more dominant. I think my favorite part of this tea was the addition of anise seed to the mix. It really stood out against the fall spice backdrop and brought some refreshing individuality to this chai. Added nothing to cup today. 212° 5 min.

Mate is a difficult tea for me as I often have to avoid highly caffeinated beverages, but I am glad I was able to try this brew through CommuniTea. The aroma of the spices is very tempting and definitely evokes feelings of fall. The flavor is less intense but delightfully warming. I definitely get notes of clove and cinnamon. The flavor of the mate itself lends a very earthy, slightly 'green' note to the overall tea.

Gaucho Mate Chai is definitely different from regular chai. The roasted mate gives it a smoky, earthy flavor, which mixes with the spices in an interesting way. It’s bold and has a bit of a kick, both in taste and caffeine. It's a perfect pick me up when I need the energy. Definitely a great tea if your looking for something strong and a little different.

Spicy and rich with a subtle sweetness. I love this chai blend for a mid-day latte. Picks my day right up.

My spouse quite enjoyed this tea. We found that it should be a lower temperature for steeping to keep the chai spices from getting bitter, though.

Definitely not my favorite. Had a bit of a bite and made my toungue tingle which was interesting. The 2 heaping teaspoons recommended on the bag was too much though. It felt like being bombarded by Christmas. Way too strong. 1 teaspoon would probably be fine, but I might just give it to my mom.

This tea has a very strong scent from the packet. I can't quite pin down exactly what that scent is, but it's a strong one. The best I can describe it is a spicy herbal scent. After brewing the scent wasn't nearly as strong, and the flavor of the tea was unique. Earthy with a peppercorn flavor (though there are no peppercorns in this blend), with a cooling after effect. An interesting tea that if offered a cup of I'd gladly drink, but probably wouldn't choose myself.

CommuniTEA sample, 5 min @ 212 F:
Cinnamon is the main aroma on the nose, with some hints of anise and ginger as well I suppose. But then on the tongue it’s a different main note, cardamom comes out and maybe some pepper afloat! As it continues to dance in the mouth and the flavors grow deep, I can taste some anise from this tea I did steep. Each small little sip brings out notes of spice, overall I’d say it’s quite nice! When aerated I get the toasted mate notes more, as well as cardamom and spice returning to the floor – they tickle the tongue and I can taste much of it all, those toasted mate flavors perfect for the fall. I do get some notes of the mate itself towards the end, a little bitter but clean as I swallow it then.

This cuppa definitely has the caffeine kick I need for the cold fall mornings! Loved the warm chai spices included making the combo a perfect pairing. I can imagine sipping this blend while riding a high horse somewhere out in the middle of the plains with a poncho and my chai keeping me warm. This is why I love the CommuniTEA. I don't know if I would've tried this one randomly on my own, but it's definitely going in my cart for the next order.

This is a wonderful mate. Full of rich spices and a little bite of pepper, this mate gives you an energy boost as well as a feast of flavor! The communitea packet is mislabeled on the ingredients. It has the list of Bonfire ingredients.

I'm not normally a fan of chai, so I was maybe a bit reluctant for today's tea. However, surprisingly, I actually quite liked it. I enjoyed the warming spices. I was afraid it would have too much clove flavor but it wasn't too bad! I'm not sure what it was that I liked about it, but overall, it was a nice chai.

Wow! Opening the packet there was a strong whiff of almost astringent aroma which made me hesitant to brew. I am so glad I did, a battle began on the palate. Cinnamon, clove, and peppercorns tried to wash away the mate but lost the battle in this mug. This blend is busy with flavors but works well for me. I would drink this fireside on a cold morning while watching snow fall, it's so warming and tasty. Nice blend!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this tea, but I was delighted to find is a gentle little chai. I do find mate a bit bitter, so maybe that's why I enjoy that it wasn't as present.

Love this chai!! It’s nice and spicy, pretty clove forward. With some honey and a little oatmilk it tastes just like a chai latte. I ordered this in a sample but my husband and I both love it so much that this will be ordered in a bigger size and kept on hand!

A sweet and deep chai! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this style of chai! It’s similar to masala!

This 'chai' would be a lot better if there was no cinnamon. Really disappointed and really getting annoyed with all the chai options here that just end up being Christmas tea, loaded with cinnamon.

I got this tea originally as a free sample, and I loved it so much I plan to keep it in my tea stash going forward. It's a strong flavor for sure -- smoky, but not to the point of being acrid or too bitter. Definitely will wake you up if need a pick-me-up!

This mate is good but has the potential to become too strong if over-steeped. In terms of mates, I prefer the spiced mate and mocha nut mate.

A nice tea with a great kick of spices and boost of caffeine to get you through your day. The chai wasn't overwhelming and settled on the milder side, although they did generally cover up the taste of the mate. For those who don't enjoy mate, that'll be a plus. Also held up very well to becoming a tea latte.

OCTOBER 13, 2023: This is a very tasty and spicy tea. I guess I got more spices in my packet than did those of you who found it light. I brewed it at 195 and let it steep for 3 minutes. I forgot to make it earlier in the day, and since it’s almost time for lights out, I only had a few sips so I could evaluate it. It’s certainly a tea I would t mind having again.
