Pu-Erh Poe Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor. Freshly damp forest aroma, warm hay inside a barn, mushrooms and savory vegetables. Wilted flower notes and faintly dark chocolate texture.

Hmmm. What to say. The initial smell reminds me of smoked fish. Seriously. To say this is an acquired tasted would be an understatement. I'm thinking a tsp would be great for blending but I'm not sure with what. I believe in trying everything but this is the first tea I couldn't finish drinking.

★★★★☆

This is the 'not as strong' pu erh of the two. Start with a sample of this one if your just getting into pu erh's

I'm so happy I was introduced to Pu Erh teas. The earthy base flavor of them really starts to grow on you. Pu Erh Poe is very similar in taste to the Pu Erh Dante, but feels a bit crisper and more delicate - my new Pu Erh of choice.

★★★★☆

This is some seriously funky tea, for some reason I really enjoy it.

All I can say is taht this was not really my cup of tea. ;o) I could not enjoy the EXTREMELY EARTHY taste - even w/sugar. I think that it is worth sampling to see if you like it, though!

Not much better than the Dante, there's a lot better shu Pu-erh out there from other vendors.

★★★★★

delicious! the darkest color and deepest flavor i've ever experienced in a black tea.

★★★★☆

A very nice tea to enjoy with milk. Definitely a different flavor, as with other pu erh teas.

★★★★☆

This puerh is pretty strong. A little goes a long way. If you like gunpowder tea like I do then you might like this tea. Once in awhile I want something stronger than green tea and this puerh hits the spot.

★★★★☆

Very dark, earthy and 'thick'. Smooth, though...
Not for the light tea drinkers.

Very similar to the dante. It does indeed taste better to justify the cost but both are quite nice.

★★★★★

This tea reminds me of the pu erh dante slightly because it to have the same benefits as the other. If you choose this one, you made a great choice.

★☆☆☆☆

This must not be a tea for me. I felt as though I were trying to drink cough syrup.

★☆☆☆☆

I would have said this was bad a while back, but now its awful. Its the worst loose leaf shou I had.

I figured I'd try an ill-reviewed tea this time, and went with the pu erh poe. I am happy to report that I found this tea to be perhaps the single best I've had. I would recommend this tea to anyone making the switch from coffee to tea, as I have.

★☆☆☆☆

This tea smelled like a barn and tasted like grass. I couldn't even finish the first cup. Definitely disappointed.

My first adagio Pu Erh and I must say I am most impressed. Fresh earthy tea with a great aftertaste that isn't bitter or too faint.

★★★☆☆

This was OK, but I got it as a small gift for a friend who would like to lose weight.

★★★★☆

I know it isn't bad, but I know it isn't for me. It is a good earthy flavor, but I couldn't finish my sampler.

Very smokey, earthy, and medicinal flavor (as in Chinese herbal medicinal, not cough syrup), definite an acquired taste, that I have not acquired.

This one has a really, really earthy taste. It's not going to be for everyone, but if you like strong-flavored stuff, this might be the tea for you.

★★★★☆

This was my first puerh, and I really dig the earthy arome and taste. Highly recommend.

★★★★★

I thoroughly enjoy this tea! It's a bit more mild than the dante, making it a great choice for a second and third cup of the day.

★★★★★

A wonderful pu erh that taste more expensive than it really is. A perfect balance of earthy undertones. Spend the little extra and pick this one up.

★★★★☆

Most detractors will say that this tea tastes like dirt. While I agree that the earthy notes are definitely pronounced, it is not unwelcome. This tea is excellent for purifying ones palate, especially after lunch.

Absolutely delicious! I was disappointed that the Lapsang Souchong was out of stock when I placed my order, but this turned out to be an excellent substitute. It's definitely a 'love it or hate it' tea, but if you like rich, earthy tones, this is a must-try. Start with a sample size the first time to make sure you know what you're getting into.

This tea was amazing. Usually with most black teas I would have to add three suger (cubes or splenda) but the first cup of this I only had to add two then every cup after that I only need one or none even. So good.

★★★★☆

A more delicate and complex flavor than the dante variety. Less mossy and a lighter nose.

★★★★☆

This has a very earthy flavor. It kind of reminds me a walk through the farmer's market on a fall morning. Not bad sweetened up.

★★★★★

Delicious...I like this pu erh for relaxing in the afternoon when I know I'll have enough time for two cups!

★★★★☆

Very, very earthy tea. It tastes similar to the dante, but it's a little smoother. You'll love it or hate it.

★★★★☆

Not as scary as expected. I actually kind of liked it, although I think in the future I'll cut it half and half with some other variety.

★★☆☆☆

I think it's safe to say that I don't 'get' this tea. It tastes like mold and dirt, which have not been appealing flavors to me in the past.

★★★★☆

I hope that someone who is new to tea or new to Pu Erh will read reviews before buying. This is a very different flavor if you are used to drinking red teas (black tea) such as ceylon or Yunnan or Assam. This is a thick and earthy sometimes pungent tea. It is an acquired taste just like espresso or even wine. With a little honey this is extremely good for the price. Most excellent Pu Erh is quite expensive.

This tea is just awful. The taste is bad, but the smell is even worse.

The taste is amazing and the price of Adagio'a pu erh is even more so. I have yet to find a quality pu erh cha that could even compete with Adagio's price.

★★☆☆☆

This stuff is very individual. Give a slight entry into cooked puerh (shu), but raw puerh (sheng) is a very different puerh, and worth investigating as well.

★★☆☆☆

I'm in the process of trying to keep an open mind and choke this down. 'Different' is an understatement. The smell is indescribable, but vaguely like something I may have smelled in old plumbing. Very unlikely to get past the sample.

★★★★★

Very Good tea. I would say it is a little earthy, which I like. The flavor is more of a mellow black tea.

★★☆☆☆

This tea was the earthy tea I have ever taste. i mean like dirt, earthy.

★★★☆☆

The description was very accurate about the pu erh teas - you'll either love it or hate it. I won't buy this again.

★★★★☆

This is a good introcudction to pu erh, a very thick and hearty tea. It is the tea equivalent to Guiness. Some will be put off by its strong aroma and malty flavor, but others will savor its individuality. So far, my friends either love it or they hate it. Pairs wonderfully with desserts.

★★★★☆

Nice earthy flavor. Very similar to pu erh dante. 3 or 4 minute steep is plenty for me.

★★★★☆

I like it but I can understand that it's not everybody's cup of tea. It is very earthy in smell and taste. I enjoy it when I want something different.

★★★★★

Very earthy, almost dirty. I love it, though. It remind me of kava.

★★★★★

A good, solid pu erh. One of my favorite types of tea, and this didn't disappoint.

★★★★★

I LIKE THIS EARTHY TEA, USE LESS WHEN BREWING; LESS LEAVES AND LESS TIME. IT IS SMOOTHER THAN THE OTHER PU ERH AND MAKES FOR A SATISFYING CUP OF TEA. I HAVE TO BE IN THE MOOD FOR IT, YET, THAT IS NOT A STRETCH. i BET THIS WOULD BE GOOD ICED OR MIXED WITH ANOTHER BLACK FOR ICED TEA.

★★★★☆

Strong and intense. This is a powerful tea that is a great wake-me-up. Love it.

★★★☆☆

When I first brewed this cup, I was surprised with just how dark it was. I wondered if I should brew it for the full five minutes, which I did. The taste was very earthy and strong. The aroma, likwise was very deep. I have not decided yet if I like this tea or not, more tastings will tell.

★★★☆☆

This black tea is indeed different! I am having my first cup right now and can say it will take about 3 or 4 cups for me to get used to it. The taste is not overwhelming, just real earthy. More like medicine than a cup of tea...but I can see myself enjoying it more and more as my palate opens up to it. If you're not sure, order the sample size like I did.
