Pu-Erh Poe Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor. Freshly damp forest aroma, warm hay inside a barn, mushrooms and savory vegetables. Wilted flower notes and faintly dark chocolate texture.

★★★★☆

Very strange, but definitely not unpleasant. Dry, it has a very earthy almost wet-dirt smell to me, wet it smelled...fishy? Not quite the word I want, but its close. I added a bit of sugar and a tiny bit of milk, I definitely want to make another cup or two before I make an absolute decision on it, but I think I like it. I'm sure I don't dislike it.

I enjoyed this tea, I did not LOOOOVE it. But I think it was more about personal taste. This tea has an undertone of rich leather and bonito flakes.

★★★☆☆

I guess I'm just not a fan of puerh tea in general. Has kind of an odd dried fish flavor to me that I am not a huge fan of.

★★★★★

This tea was amazing. Strong earthy notes through severalsteepings without any slightly fishy notes that come through in some tread of this type. Trurly awesome.

The sample I received looked more like a bag of detritus, if anything.

This tea has an interesting smell, like fish and wood. Luckily, the taste is more woodsy than fishy. I am not rating this very highly because of the process used to make it. True pu erh tea should be aged for years, not days. I have a feeling if it were aged properly, it would taste better.

Could not get into this tea, I reserve it for serving to poor company now.

I really like earthy tones of this black tea. Either hot or iced pu erh poe tea taste great.

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THIS COMPANY IS JUST LIKE TEAVANA OUT FOR YOUR MONEY

I was introduced to pu erh tea when I was working in a small coffee shop and came in with a bit of a cold. I've been drinking it ever since whenever I feel a bit under the weather.

★★★☆☆

I'm not that fond of this pu erh. I've tasted better.

★★★★★

Definitely a deep and rich-bodied tea as described. Quite earthy, yet also very subtle. Very enjoyable

★☆☆☆☆

Pardon the pun, but this is not at all my cup of tea. The first few weeks of having the sample, the bag smelled like rotten compost and didn't taste much better. The tea mellowed out after a month or two of just sitting around, but still not a flavor I enjoyed at all.

I am not too partial for this Puerh selection. I find that it lacks the crispness in the cup which the (Puerh ante) of equal value has. Not much to say, other than I wrote I better review for the ( ante).

★★★★☆

This is some funky stuff. For some reason, the taste of forest floor and mushrooms was nice. The flavor is so strange...in a good way...that you just keep on sipping until the whole cup is gone. Do not, however, drink this tea anywhere near bedtime, or you will need at least two good books to keep yourself occupied while the caffeine wears off.

★★★★☆

This tea is very woodsy and rooty but tastes great. Took me a couple cups to get used to it because the smell is a little odd, but the taste is good.

Brews up dark- almost coffee dark- and very aromatic with an almost fishy note. It isn't fish, exactly, but the aroma hits the same spot in the back of the nose and throat that strong fish does, if that makes sense. The flavor is strong and rich (though not quite as complex as the pu erh dante) without any of the fishy notes present in the aroma.

Smells and tates kind of fishy. I wont be buying it again

This is an odd tea for sure. It smells weird, like a little funky or something. It may be what they call 'earthy' but I'm going to call 'funky' to be polite. However, while the tea smells odd to me, it actually tastes very mellow and pleasing. I was suprised to like it as much as I did. I'm not entirely sure if I'll order more as I find the aroma off putting, but the flavor is nice.

I will say this is definitely a flavor I am working to acquire. It's something new and certainly differently. I love the earthiness of the tea, but am still a little wary of the seaside notes.

A wonderful, very organic-tasting tea that can be rebrewed multiple times. These pu-erhs are an acquired taste for some, but definitely a rewarding, rich, cup of tea.

★★★★★

I love pu erh tea, and this one is great if you like pu-erh.

★★★★☆

A very interesting tea. I was struck by how fishy the unbrewed aroma was, but one brewed it became only mildly briny and took on a deep earthy flavor. I don't quite agree with the mushroom description, but there was definitely an enjoyably unique vegetal flavor with an almost 'dirty' mineral undertone. Rich and smooth mouthfeel.

Decent-quality puerh, nothing too noteworthy. Very dark and earthy, as is to be expected.

★★★★★

Puerh is not for everyone but this one is good. Reminds me of the aged Yunnan cakes I buy direct from China

I'm not sure where other reviewers are getting this idea about it having a fishy taste. For me, I taste mushroom-dirt-earthiness, which is really quite lovely if earthy teas are your thing. If you're new to pu erh, you might be taken aback at first, or turned off altogether. I even went as far as trying this with milk and I was rather shocked at how much it looked and almost tasted like chocolate milk, haha! Not sweet chocolate milk, mind, but as if dark cocoa powder were mixed in, and somewhat coffee like. It's hard to describe, but it was pleasant.

The earthy flavor of this tea was very enjoyable. I did not, however, like the scent too much. Still, I would certainly drink it again!

Interesting but the flavor is just a little too earthy for me.

It's hard to describe this tea well for a few reasons. For one, it seems that everyone has a different description of the aroma. Secondly, the taste is dramatically different from the smell. I enjoy the taste of this tea very much. On taste alone I would give it top ratings. The smell however, is significant. I rinse this tea before brewing, and steep for 3 minutes. The smell of fish even after rinsing is quite strong. Such that the aroma will stay with you for some time. I've found that every time I drink this tea my girlfriend knows it, even if she hasn't seen me drink it, and I am greeted with that universal expression of silent disapproval unique to womankind. This obviously doesn't stop me from enjoying this tea, but it is something to be mindful of. I may subject my loving girlfriend to fishy pu erh kisses, but I wouldn't think of drinking this tea before going to work or some such thing where someone might catch a whiff of my tea induced eau de fish.

★★★★☆

This pu'erh is really good... if you know what your in for! The first time I had Pu'erh i was so taken back by the smell alone, that I couldn't even enjoy the flavor. This Pu'erh is much different! I really enjoyed this one. The liquor has a dark mahogany color, the suttle smells of smoke and sweet wood are both laid underneath this earthy aroma. The flavor tastes of deep earth and sweet wood, but surprisingly is fairly sweet and smooth. I really enjoyed this Pu'erh, and owe a big thank you to farmer Xiao Zhang Luo for changing my mind about Pu'erh. Enjoy!

This is more subtly flavored than my usual cuppa, but it's good. It's very mellow and well balanced.

This tea is OK. Several times on the Dr Oz show it has been recommended for weight loss. I keep on trying. I'm not sure if it has worked but...

★★★★☆

Smooth and earthy. I enjoy it for a nice afternoon drink. No acidity at all.

★★★★☆

This was my first time trying a pu erh, and I can see why the reviews say its an acquired taste. Apparently I have not quite acquired the taste yet. I was surprised at how dark and full bodied this tea was and while I did not love it, I liked it and will try it again with less tea. I am trying to wean off of coffee entirely and can see how this would be a good substitute for my morning coffee. I like it and will work on loving it!

★★★★☆

Definitely takes some getting used to, but not bad. I wouldn't want to drink this as my everyday (all day) tea, but it's great for every now and then.

This tea smells like the cozy little tatami mat restaurants off the main streets in Japan. There is something a little 'fishy' about it, but it fits, the tea wouldn't be complete without it. This is a very full, flavorful tea and my first pu-ehr. I'll be back for more.

★★★★★

Definitely an adventure, the scent may turn you off but the taste is one of the richest tea has to offer.

The fact that you can brew this tea multiple times is a big plus because it will definitely leave you wanting more. It's very good with honey, but without it's still quite pleasant. Very earthy, very herbal, and very robust.

★☆☆☆☆

Every tea drinker should try Pu Erh at least once. I think it's a bit unfair that to write a review I must give it a star rating. Some people love Pu Erh, and some people think it tastes like a sodden barnyard at low tide. I'm in the latter group, but I still think, give the price of a sample, that tea lovers would be remiss if they hadn't tried Pu Erh at least once.

I did a mini steep, threw it out, put some more boiling water in and did a normal steep. It had a slight fishy smell that is distinctive of pu-erhs, but as far as the flavor of the tea goes, it tasted actually like normal, white rice. Overall not my favorite.

Pu Erh is among my favorite teas, for its mild, creamy, earthy flavor. Pu Erh Poe has a somewhat lighter flavor than Pu Erh Dante, but can get that characteristic fishy flavor if oversteeped. Don't let that scare you off

It feels a bit like being in a clean stable, being surrounded by earth and hay. I think I might like Dante a teensy bit better - this one is a lot more brisk.

The tea smells really good before brewing, but the musky earth taste was way too strong for me. Tasted like I was sipping liquid compost...

Less intense than the pu erh dante (to me) but maybe something for people who want a less overpowering taste. A great afternoon tea, and puts you into the mood for autumn.

★★★★★

At first I was concerned because this tea has something of a salty fishy flavor. But I found that if you let the leaves steep for 2-3 minutes first then pour that first cup out that flavor fades immediately. I take mine with Sugar and milk and I just love this tea. It's so earthy and flavorful. It reminds me of living in the forest. One of my favorites.

I love the dark, full body of pu erh poe. I drink it hot in the winter and chilled in the summer. I used to be a coffee drinker but now I only drink this tea. Try with some cinnamon for a lovely treat.
