No. Brown sugar has molasses added to it to create a brown color. This is unbleached raw crystal sugar.

As far as I know, sugar doesn't 'expire.' If it doesn't get wet or damp, it stays as it comes. This sugar is from beets, not sugar cane, though and I use cane sugar. I doubt it would be different, though.

Does the rock sugar sweeten iced teas that are cold brewed or does it have to melt in hot tea/hot brewing to be effective?

Hello Melissa! They dissolve better in hot water. We recommend dissolving the sugar in a little hot water first, then adding the sugar water to your cold brew.
