Ali Shan Customer Reviews

Green oolong tea from Ali Shan, one of Taiwan's most famous tea growing areas. Beautiful high mountain oolongs come from its misty peaks. Warm sugar and deeply layered floral aromas, with a melting, creamy mouthfeel. Mellow and light-bodied.

Misterious faintly nutty oolong. Light-colored liquor brings hint of butter cookies. I am glad i purchased it.

I really like this tea. Initially, the taste wasn’t very strong. But then, after it sat on my tongue awhile, I started to notice the sweet floral taste. It’s definitely got a green tea like flavor, which I enjoy. Would I pay $24 for a small bag? …. Yes. Yes I would.

I was searching for a new favorite oolong and tried 8 different samples (using a tournament bracket), and Ali Shan went the distance! I was so impressed by its complex flavors. I found it to be buttery and floral in a very unique way. I look forward to enjoying more of this tea!

This is a delightfully delicate 'green' oolong with subtle layers of flavor best enjoyed when steeped at a lower temperature to avoid any bitterness. The color is extremely pale, so the depth of flavor is a wonderful surorise!

I m not one for floral teas, but the butteriness, with a slight sweetiness made this my favorite oolong.

What a delicious discovery! I tried this on a whim and now it’s in my top 5 adagio teas. A perfect greenish oolong!

One of my favorite oolong. Natural hint of sweetness without any added sugar. Great for multiple infusions. A must for anyone who loves oolong.

My 1st try of this was in an oolong sampler, and I loved it then, so I had to order more - and I will again!

This is one of the many teas that showed up in a CommuniTEA packet and which I fell in love with immediately. Reviewers aren't wrong when they call it soft, buttery, and sweet. It is all of those things. But also, I loved the complexity of it. It's a playful tea. If you hold it in your mouth, you experience one taste and then, before you have a chance to swallow it, you're presented with another. And then another. It's a tea for people who are curious, and enjoy being taken on a journey. It probably takes me twice as long as usual to drink my cup, because I really enjoy sitting with this tea and letting it show me all it has to offer. It has become one of my favorites, and now I look forward to trying the Formosa Ali Shan!

This tea is a real treat. I love oolong tea and this is one of the best I have tasted. Pricey but worth it.

A very nice quality tea, that I feel underdeveloped to fully appreciate. I still go to it when I want something complex in flavor but not complicated.

Quite a dry oolong. It's pleasant enough to drink.

Very good, I steeped at a bit of a higher temperature than recommended of 212 degrees for around 10 minutes (covered so heat doesn't escape.) Taste reminded me of the grass tea I make with fresh lawn clippings, has that same dirt aftertaste.

What a fantastic tea! I brewed at 190 for about 2 1/2 minutes, resulting in a beautiful golden colored tea. It smelled fantastic and tasted just as good. Even though it wasn't sweetened, it had a hint of sweetness, almost like honey or fruit without being overwhelmingly fruity. I really loved this one, and am now considering ordering some. Delicious.

Today's CommuniTea packet was Ali Shan, an oolong tea from Taiwan. I've wanted to try Adagio's ali shan for a while, so I was very excited to see it today. In the packet, the tea is tightly rolled, and part of the fun is watching it unfurl. Unfortunately, I was running late and used a clear glass, but not one of my glass infusers, so I could only watch it from above.

The liquor is clear and very pale in color. Unfortunately allergies have kicked in and I couldn't smell much, which undoubtedly also affected how the tea tasted to me. But there was no bitterness, no grassiness, just a very delicate tea. I definitely want to get some so that my nose and taste buds can be worthy of it. :-) (Brewed in 14 ounces of 195° water for 3 minutes.)

Lighter than a typical rooibos, but I did not mind this as I enjoy light teas such as white and green. Grassy, flavorful, pleasant and not bitter. An earthen taste, soothing almost. I've naught had anything like it so far and am gladly intrigued.

This tea was such a treat. Delicate florals, honey like sweetness, and a buttery mouth feel. This tea was meant to be savored.

I didn’t love this one but that’s a personal preference not anything against the tea. Today’s CommuniTEA was a delight to watch brew. The leaves almost danced as they unfurled. Pale yellow/green liquor graced my cup. Faint floral aroma and just the slightest fresh green scent. I added a tsp of honey to help with the little bit of green taste that was there. It’s a delicate green oolong, just not my cup of tea as I prefer darker oolongs.

A perfectly good oolong tea. It was nice to have this packet of tea, but I wouldn’t pay the price for it individually. It’s good, but not that kind of amazing.

Oolong can be kind of hit or miss with me, but this one is actually really good! It's pleasant and not bitter at all. It's mellow, but I like it!

Light, a lil buttery, a lil floral, akin to green tea. What I love most is what hing the rolled leaves steep & unfurl.
What's also great is the number of flavorful steeps I can get out of a single serving. I got 3 good steeps, the 4th was pushing it.

A smooth, buttery tea with a hint of floral and no grassiness. It is naturally sweet and doesn’t need any added sweetener. Resteeps several times, so you get your money’s worth!

This was a beautiful tea from the moment I opened the bag and saw the little rolled leaves, the moment it unfurled while steeping and to the very last sip. This was a wonderful oolong with a sweet honey-like taste with herbal hints and a very calming aroma. I enjoyed this yesterday for the first steep and then placed the leaves out on a paper plate to dry so I could enjoy it again today. The second steep was wonderful as well. My 9 year old even sat down and enjoyed this on with me. This tea is an especially good choice for when you want to impress someone with an Oolong or when you have time to enjoy the whole process, from steep to sip.

I steeped my CommuniTEA packet for 2 and a half minutes. The flavor is stronger than I expected from some others' reviews. It doesn't have the smooth buttery feel some others like Milk Oolong have so this one would not be my choice to purchase but it's very good. The resteep was even better. It was smoother (but not buttery). It's definitely green-like, but doesn't have a grassiness or overpowering earthiness. I left my third steep for too long (4.5 minutes) but it surprisingly didn't ruin it. It lost the 'wow' factor, but it's still good. Tastes like a weak 'meh' tea. I resteeped for 3.5 minutes with half the water and it was a slightly weaker version of the second steep. I feel like I could totally get another steep out of it if I tried. Since it resteeps well, it seems to be worth the higher price, but I prefer others I've tried so it's not for me.

I was very confused by this tea at first I'm used to dark oolongs and this was so pale and light I thought I'd brewed it wrong 😂 but it's a nice flavor, very light but not boring. I added just a drop of local honey and it brightened the tea wonderfully.

★★★☆☆

For me this was too grassy tasting. I was glad for the opportunity to try it.

This was good, but a little weak in flavor to me. While hot, this had mild grassy notes and barely there hints of floral. As it cooled the floral became more pronounced, which helped me enjoy it more. It wasn't bad, but I really had to focus on each sip to find the flavors. As I sipped I kept comparing it to the Formosa Ali Shan, which I find to be stronger in flavor and overall better in taste - and if I'm going to splurge on tea, I will go the extra little bit for the Formosa Ali Shan. The flavor reminds me of the jasmine silver needle just a bit. I like this one wasn't expecting it to be so light in color most oolongs i've tried are usually on the darker side. Im real glad i made a full pot of this one when i was trying it.

Gently unfurling tea leaves brew into a delicate, light golden cup. The softness of honey leaves no aftertaste or bitterness and has its own sweetness. Just lovely.

I really wanted to like this tea because it shares my name... However it was just not my cup of tea. It was much more savory than what I typically like in a tea. But I'm sure its great if you like that sort of thing

The CommuniTEA packet reveals a fresh green tea leaf aroma. It contains a cluster of tightly wound green tea leaves. Steeping them at 195°F for 4 minutes with the Oolong tea button allows them to unfurl and release the scent of steamed greens. The tea produced is a light golden green color.

More steamed fresh greens aromas find their way into the cup. Each sip is smooth and buttery, with a nicely light green tea astringency in the finish. This one is more bold than a milk oolong, yet similar in mouthfeel and overall character. A flavor of honey or bee pollen is followed by an ever so slight grassiness that is fresh and never harsh.

The second steeping is lighter and even smoother. The floral and honey flavors are more present due to the lessened strong flavors.

This one is bordering right up next to the Milk Oolong category of teas, but is a very unique one in it's own right. Very enjoyable and rejuvenating!

CommuniTea provided the perfect tea to savor on a Sunday. The leaves slowly unfurl during the first and even second steep. The flavor is difficult for me to describe, floral, buttery, green? Sounds totally bizarre but is amazingly delicious. Sipped and savored all day and am about to try a 3rd steep before heading off to dreamland.

As this tea said it should be brewed in a gaiwan, and I don't own one, I put a saucer over the top of my mug. I brewed this tea for 3 minutes at 190F. This tea had a slight leafiness to it. I wasn't really tasting the honey, but for some reason I was getting an almost cinnamon aftertaste. I also felt like it had a creaminess to it. Overall, this tea was enjoyable, but there are others I prefer more.

I'm honestly not familiar with oolong, so I can't compare it to others, but this was a quite enjoyable drinking experience! Nice and smooth. The second steep was stronger than the first, and a little bit of honey complimented the tea nicely!

Dry tea is rolled and green, and has a faint hay smell I tend to associate with less oxidation. One brewed, the leaves were mostly unfurled and expanded over 400%, resulting in a light green liquor with a honeysuckle scent. When hot, the tea is creamy and buttery. Faint vegetal notes can be detected as the tea cools, although it is paired with a sweet finish. The tea seems to get sweeter as the tea cools, with no detectable bitterness and a lovely mouthfeel. The tea almost has a honeysuckle type note to it, and has some faint floral notes that were not overwhelming, but added to the complexity of the flavor. This tea is easy to drink. Second and third infusions have the same creamy mouthfeel and sweetness, although the third infusion was lighter in flavor using the same ratio of tea to water. Delicious specimen of a green-leaning rolled oolong. Brewed at 195 for 3 minutes.

Nice smooth, buttery, floral, and sweet tea today. Got 3 flavorful steeps out of this. 2nd and 3rd was just as flavorful as the 1st. There's something about the smell that bothers me, but not enough to take away from the enjoyable flavor. Taste is somewhat floral and reminds me of Jasmine. 190 @ 2 mins for 1st. 3 minutes for 2nd and 3rd steep. Sweetened with Monk fruit.
