It was okay. Im a stickler for fall flavored teas. So i feel like it was sort of just okay. That may not be the most informative review but y'know *shrug*
Honeybush hazelnut and cocoa nibs relax and ground you, while a spice blend of aniseed, cinnamon, clove, and orange peel offer cozy comfort.

I am not a fan of the smoky flavor. In the CommuniTea packet, that is all I smell. I have tried most of the adagio catalog at this point, and have given less than a handful of 1 star reviews, and this is one of them. Reminds me of Kentucky bobrun, which was my 1st one star review. Too heavy on the smoke, which to me is already unpleasant, but it also covers up all of the other flavors. Not a fan of this one at all.
I love this tea- but I also really enjoy Lapsang Souchong so it wasn't a surprise that I enjoyed this. It's quite balanced between smokey and fruity. This tea is autumn in a cup for me!
It does taste like a bonfire! Just too smokey for my personal taste.
10/5/20 I half expect this to be a real smoky flavored tea, but it isn’t. It is full bodied and robust, like a spice tea. I add honey to sweeten it up a bit, and it mellows the conflicting flavors. The aftertaste is hazelnut and cinnamon, with a hint of the anise (anise is not my favorite flavor). The fact that it is almost caffeine free makes it a keeper for me. It will be great to drink when camping, or during cooler months. (5 mins @ 212ºF).
UPDATE: I have purchased this and enjoy it, especially while camping. Today I decide to remove some of the anise seeds from my small CommuniTea sample. Actually I remove 50 seeds, which still leaves some to steep. The tea is a lovely golden color and the flavor is delightful - no anise detected at all.
I'm a big lapsang fan to start with and this tea was really fun! Smoky, definitely like a campfire. Lots of other flavors with it.
10/06/2021 CommuniTEA packet Update: The ingredients are more balanced in my cup today. I am able to detect most all of them. This is a very pleasant cup of tea, with just enough smoke to simulate I crisp Autumn evening, drinking tea, sitting around the fire.
While reading the other reviews, I wonder if the blend I received was a little off. The smokiness over powers most all of the other wonderful ingredients. I really wanted to like this. I do taste a little orange, maybe a little clove and hazelnut, but am I completely missing in the cinnamon and anise. My first brew was a 3 cup (3 tsp) @ 212 brew. I picked out as much of the Lapsang (possibly some of the cinnamon bark unintentionally ) as possible, mixed up the sample, and brewed another 2 cups (2 tsp) @ 212. The smokiness is now more in balance, but I am still missing the spiciness of the other ingredients. It's just sort of flat and I have a very sensitive palate. The nose on the unbrewed tea is lovely. If only it smelled/tasted like that once brewed. I've been searching desperately for my go to holiday blend without ginger (allergic) and sadly the search continues.
There were a lot of tastes which I love to try. The Smokey taste was too much, maybe a different packet wouldn’t be so strong.
This tea gives me all the cozy fall hygge feels. It is an odd blend of smoky, fruity & spice flavors. But it is balanced and enjoyable. To me the dry leaves smell like buttered popcorn. Which is not something I would ever think to drink. However, once infused the liquor gives me an enjoyable somewhat sweet & savory taste.
Really enjoyed this tea. The Lapsang Souchong is very light in this blen d, just enough to add a bit of savory smokiness to the mix. There is a nice balance between the fruity spicy flavors and they go well with the added smoky flavor. I enjoy Lapsang Souchong a little stronger, but this was a delicious blend.
CommuniTEA Sample: Really enjoyed today's tea with a hint of Lapsang and the rest of the flavors playing nice together. It is a strange combination, but it works. Earthiness, spice, smokiness, and even a bit of cocoa. Very good.
6 Oct 21 communiTEA review: Re-taste at 200°F, vice 212°F, for five minutes and ¼ teaspoon of sugar. Results were the same as below. A bonfire, indeed it is! Pleasant tasting, it’s not.
16 Sep 20 purchased review: When hot and warm, moderate smokey and mild anise licorice flavors were mostly noted. When warm, nuttiness from the hazelnut and mild cinnamon flavors were noted. Cinnamon and red peppercorn zings were noted at finish and lingered as an nasty aftertaste on the palate. I couldn’t taste any of the other players, though! They must have burned up in the bonfire! Drank the whole cup, but don’t think I want another. No sugar added.
Oh my. I hate to be a Debbie downer but this is not for me. I see there are other flavors in this tea but all I get is smoke. Which I mean its called Bonfire it's full on delivering what it promises but I just can't drink a bonfire.
This is one of the weirder teas I have tried. I love lapsang souchong on its own, and the smokiness definitely peaks out in this. It smells like a candy apple that has been set on fire. Cinnamon and clove notes balance with smoky, sweet apple in the flavor.
Wow! I loved this yea and its complex, smokey flavor. It's among the very best I have had from Adagio. Really a great tea to end the day with, or enjoy on cold night.
It's definitely a tea that requires an acquired taste. I think this is my first time trying a tea with Lapsang Souchong in it and the smokiness threw me off. Needless to say, it's not bad, but it's also not something I'd want to get again.
This tea delivers just like its name says it will - smokiness from the lapsang overlays an orange spice base. This Communitea sample packet tastes less smoky this year than when I first tried a sample of this blend, given to me by a friend who didn’t like it, about a year ago. If you can handle lapsang souchong, I’d say give this one a go.
Got this as a sample last fall and couldn't wait for it to return, smokey and spicy.
Really enjoyed this. Got the true smoky flavor from it and spice as well.
Though it has a nice flavor, I thought it was a bit more smokey than I expected.
The smell is definitely intense, like sitting in the smoke cloud of a bonfire. I found the tea to actually be quite good, though the smell was a bit overpowering. I added a little cream and sugar after a bit to mellow out the flavors and was able to thoroughly enjoy it, and it brought back memories of many nights by the campfire.
This tea may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. It has an intriguing blend of sweetness and spice. Drinking this tea brought back memories of camping with friends when I was younger.
At first sip I really liked this tea, until I got to the hazelnut after taste. Not for me.
By no means an offensive brew, but compared to other bonfire-themed teas I've tried it was lacking. The taste reminded me of charcoal which I don't outright dislike, but I was expecting more from this tea that it didn't manage to deliver.
Was not my favorite buy it wasn't terrible but I definitely would choose to get something else next time.
Interesting tea. It has a smoky flavor that I wasn’t expecting but I like it.
I love this! I first read really good reviews prior to ordering. When I was awaiting its arrival, I read some negative reviews, so I wondered if I would like it or not. Well, I really love it!! The smell is smoky, and it has a mildly smoky finish. But it is a very pleasant smokiness. It is a very layered, full bodied taste that is absolutely perfect to get me ready for autumn (which started today).
Just delicious! I brew by the instructions, except I use a little more than 1 serving. I like it extra flavorful.
I'm giving this one star because it's misrepresented as an herbal tea. It is a black tea. Black tea is the third ingredient. I don't drink tea (Camellia sinensis plant) for religious reasons. As someone without a knowledge of black tea, I didn't know what lapsang was until after I bought it and looked it up. It said herbal so I assumed it didn't have tea in it.
I found this tea to be awful. I hated the smell and only took one sip once I brewed it. The smokiness was too much for me! I will say that 'bonfire' is definitely an appropriate name for this tea!
Interesting flavor. It has a nice smoky with hints of spice. Reminds me of sitting around a bonfire enjoying a cool fall evening with friends and family.
I really like this tea, and especially to blend with other autumn/winter-appropriate flavors. I'd prefer more pronounced smoke, but the spices and fruit notes are well-balanced and it adds depth and complexity when blended with a black tea. I love this with a cranberry or apple-forward black; someone suggested adding it to the maple creme oolong and I want to try that as well. Definitely will purchase this again.
This is a tea blend I will definitely be ordering again throughout the autumn season. The smoky sweet flavor needs no enhancement: the blend of hazelnut, cocoa, spices and lapsang souchong is aromatic and delicious.
Such a perfect fall tea, so flavorful and makes you feel all cozy inside
Great spiced tea, especially good with some milk and sugar
loved the smokey sweet flavor of this tea. delicious
I didnt love this one, for some reason it gave me a "buttered popcorn" taste. It is a well reviewed tea and you should try it for yourself
This is my favorite tea on here so far. Love the smell and the taste!
I'm giving this an OK rating because it wasn't something I could bring myself to drink. It was just TOO smoky for me. However, if you are fond of smoky teas, this is an interesting take on that flavor profile. UPDATE: downgraded to bad. I couldn't bring myself to finish the sample.
This tea is a go-to cozy tea for me. It is a taste of fall during any time of the year
Unfortunately, this tea reminded me too much of eating potpourri, which is a very unique taste, a taste nothing like potpourri smells of. Not for me but maybe someone else will enjoy this tea, ill stick to my oolong teas!
This one is good. When they say bonfire, they mean it! It tastes just like a campfire smells. Not sure if that sounds good to everyone, and it is different, but I enjoyed it. Something nice to have during the day if you want a tea that's more savory.
Smoky, smooth. No one else in my family likes this tea because of the smokiness but I love it. Bonfire is the perfect name for it.
When I opened it, it smelled like a bonfire, not necessarily good, but I figured I’d give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste… Until the good flavor disappeared. My mouth tasted like sucking on a piece of burnt wood for a while afterwards.
Interesting concept, the flavor is strong, it’s just not my thing.
This smells AMAZING, but I was disappointed at how weak the flavor was when I brewed it. I've tried combining it with a few other teas and found that mixing it in equal parts with the Christmas blend and then tossing in a little orange black tea and lapsang souchong results in something wonderful that tastes the way Bonfire smells to me. (So 3 stars for the tea by itself, but I'll definitely purchase it again!)
very strong flavor wise. was not expecting such a punch but boy! Not my favorite type of tea but its good at its job
It's a very different tea than what I expected. It has a bold taste, but not bitter or overwhelming. If you want to try something different I would recommend.
Not my Cup of tea but it really did taste like bonfire. I did not like the tea but it was very cool to try. I'm not into smoky tea. I do recommend this for anyone that likes smoky teas or just want to have the cool experience of trying it.
I enjoyed this on cold evenings. I with there was a little less cinnamon though.
A solid blend, definitely more of a whiskey smell than taste, but the peppery tones come out if you overbrew-- which I definitely recommend.
