This green is a bit more green than I typically like. It taste more like vegetable broth for me.
Classic steamed tea from Shizuoka, Japan. Rich, brothy texture (when steeped as strongly as you might find in Japan), refreshing aroma. Rounded finish that coats the palate, sweet flavor reminiscent of tender steamed veggies and fresh seaweed.

When it comes to Green tea, I think brewing a perfect cup is really hard to do yet, it is the most important. With black tea, you can always doctor to make it taste better but there is not much you can do to a green tea make it taste better.
This tea smelled very grassing upon opening the bag, So I did not think I would like it. But I continued on and made this tea gongfu Cha.
I heated my water to 175, I then poured it into my pot, ( Without tea), and then I pour that water into my cups. I added the tea to my small pot and poured more water over the leaves. ( Note I did not reheat the water) I let the leave steep for about a minute and a half, and then I poured it into a pitcher and then into my cup. The cups I used are from the gongfu set and are very small. Think a couple of sips or one gulp full. and then continued to serve myself the tea, And found it to be very smooth, buttery green tea, that I ended up enjoying.
I honestly do not think this is a pour your self a mug of tea to take out on your way to work.
This is a tea that is meant to enjoy leisurely and a tea that you need to work for to enjoy. But it is the type of work that is like meditation. It is enjoyable,
When I smelled the packet of tea, I was expecting this to have a strong grassy/seaweed taste. But preparation makes all the difference. I steeped this for 2 minutes at 165 in 16 oz of water and was pleasantly surprised that it was a nice mild tasting green. A little salty, but not overwhelmingly seaweed-like. I can enjoy this tea. Not what I would typically purchase for myself, but I’d drink it anytime if someone offered me a cup. It tastes like authentic Japanese tea.
I enjoyed this green tea very much! Nice smooth grassy flavor!
Tasting with CommuniTEA today, but I confess that I own larger quantities of this tea. This is a lovely delicate tea for green tea fans. Steeping this tea for 2:30 mins @ 175° F, brings out a pretty pale green color and a subtle nutty/toasted nose. When taking a sip, I notice a subtle, but complex typical green tea notes with a silky, buttery mouthfeel and a leafy green finish. As the name alludes, this is an aperitif, cleansing your palate with just enough acid to encourage an active salivary reaction. This is a great green tea for pairing with food.
Very smooth. I really enjoyed this tea. I have no clue was grass or seaweed taste like so I can't compare, lol. A nice cup of tea.
I'm not a huge fan of green tea unless it is flavored and blended with something. This wasn't bad, but it just wasn't great tasting to me. It definitely had a seaweed tastes like in the description. I'm not opposed to seaweed flavor as I do like sushi rolls and I've had dried seaweed as a snack before. It's just not something I really want to taste in a tea. I may go for a second steep and see if I like it better after it has mellowed but this is not something I'd be purchasing.
I didn't get the seaweed flavor from this tea. I just got a vegetal flavor with buttery notes. I steeped it at 165F for 2 minutes, so perhaps the flavor is different with different times or temperatures.
This is not a tea for me. I enjoy green teas but someone in the CommuniTea chat described it best as tasting like buttered hay or spinach. Definitely not A green for me.
This tea matched the description that was given. I usually do a green tea blend. Not for me.
I had this tea back when a coworker and I purchased the teas of Japan sampler. At that time, we just used hot water from the kitchen at who knows what temperature. I was skeptical at first trying this tea again but with the adjusted temperature setting and a more appreciative approach to teas, I found this tea to be good.
Vegetal and a little like seaweed, bright, flavorful and tongue-coating, this is a great tea for people who like unflavored green tea. At first I wasn't sure about this one. It's so vegetal! But it grew on me. (Ha!)
The leaves are very green. It had the taste of green tea (real stuff not the cheap stuff). I like this better than dragonwell which had a very grassy taste. This one was just right.
Light, refreshing green tea. Scent reminiscent of the sea. As it cooled, seaweed and vegetable flavors became more prominent.
Very very grassy/seaweed-y tasting green tea. Unsweetened it’s barely drinkable; sweetened it’s a bit more palatable but still not my cup of tea.
I used to work a teashop and this was a crowd favorite. I gave in and tried it. Even now, all I taste is seaweed. Salty and vegetal but not in an appealing way the gyokuro has. Sencha is just unpleasant as a green tea lover. The color is how it tastes
Before Covid I use to travel to China often. This tea reminds me of the fresh smooth tea survived there. It a pretty color and leaves a hint of flavor after sipping.
Loved the brewing process when the tea unfolded. The taste was meh even doctored up with stevia and cream. Not my favorite.
This must be an acquired taste. The aroma in the bag was a bit like fish to me. The brewed aroma is like a vegetable broth. The taste is very
Vegetable with a hint of black pepper. Just not my cup of tea.
I usually prefer green teas, and personally for me this is an okay green tea. It did not blow my mind, but it did not disappoint either. This green tea gravitates to a grassy taste with hits of a vegetal taste. It is not very bitter, slight hints of being bitter, but I am sure this could be adjusted with modifying the temperature and the length of steeping. I did my steep at 165 @ 3 minutes, but next time I might try 170 F. My experience with green tea sencha is that the flavor profile can change quite a bit with different temperatures and steep times. Unfortunately I only have one bag to sample, but I think this is a safe green tea. Does not disappoint, but will not blow your socks off either
Different but in a good way, nice and light. It was enjoyable
Deep green, with a wonderfully lingering taste of light grass and saltless seaweed, if that makes any sense.
I took a few sips straight but didn't like it once I added a little honey it improved a bunch.
As I'm not generally a green tea fan anyway, I'm unsurprised by the fact that this morning's CommuniTEA packet wasn't to my taste. The flavor itself is pretty delicate and while it's mildly grassy (the thing I hate about green tea), it's not overwhelmingly so. The thing that really got me was the terrible smell.
I usually find plain green teas too earthy tasting. While this tea still has that earthiness, it is definitely more muted. As a result, I can still appreciate it's flavor without being turned away. I think a green tea lover would really like this.
Stately looking dark green rolled tea leaves were noted in my communiTEApacket. I smelled grass, and was ready to taste it!
Steamed Japanese green teas can become quite astringent if the water is too hot or the steep is too long. Thus, I did a 160ºF steep (also because my kettle doesn’t have a 165 button.) I pulled the steep at the 2 minute mark when the color was green-gold.
From hot to finish, moderate fresh cut green grass flavors were noted with mild and acceptable astringency. Thank goodness it didn’t taste like wet and stale green grass clippings! Mild arugula-like vegetal flavors provided a spicy black pepper kick towards finish.
This is one of my favorite grassy tasting green teas! A second steep provided a deep green colored cup with even bolder tastes than the first ... excellent! When I want smooth & bold green, this is the one. (1st steep: 2 mins/2nd steep: 1 min 30 secs @ 160ºF, no additives)
I’m really not much of a green tea drinker unless it is in a blend. I find it to be too grassy for my taste so I just didn’t care for this. If you love green tea there should be no reason why you wouldn’t enjoy this.
Smooth and buttery with good top notes and not too much grassiness. This is one of my favorite greens.
It does pack quite a bit of punch - start off with 30 second steeps. The first one, even at 30 seconds, was almost too strong! Each subsequent steep for 30 seconds was still flavorful. This one keeps going, my fourth cup was just as yellowy green as the second.
Yummy, grassy, cozy. I enjoyed this tea very much.
Sweet & grassy; makes me long for spring on this winter day. I did add a touch of honey. I sampled this Tea as part of the CommuniTEA February Box
An absolutely delicious, mood uplifting but not restlessness-inducing tea. Drinking it makes me think, “This is the epitome of green... and it is good, makes me happy and relaxed at the same time.” It can be steeped to be stronger and more bitter or lighter and more sweetly delicate.
An enjoyable sencha, although it was not a standout as I had hoped.
Almost as good as Sencha Premier, but more economical. This one is so good!
I think sencha must just not be my thing--I find it too grassy for my taste--but this seems like a good quality tea even though it s not for me.
Oh my god, this figuratively transcended me back to Japan. When I was in Japan, the hotels had this type of tea, and that’s when I realized that I liked green tea.
I got this in a sampler haul, in trying Adagio for the first time. This is my favorite tea in the entire batch, right next to Yunnan gold! It's a proper daily sencha. Not particularly aromatic, maybe a little grassy. Brewed with care, the tea comes out with no bitterness or astringency. The flavor is reminiscent of clear soup or boiled spinach. I'll definitely buy this again.
Lovely green leaves with a strong vegetal aroma and flavor. The leaves are 50/50 broken and longer. I found this to get bitter rather quickly even with the 2 min steep time at 165 degrees so be careful! To cure it I just added a bit more water and then the flavor came out better without so much bite. Great Japanese green tea!
A delicious green tea for those who enjoy sencha!
An earthy, grassy tea, perfect for instilling discipline into one’s day. A personal favourite.
This is a wonderful straight green tea. A slightly sweet vegetal treat which also makes sparkly and fresh tasting kombucha!
It's delicious. I think it is at least nearly as good as the Sencha premier.
This is just your basic bog-standard green tea. Grassy, astringent, good for about 3 infusions, tastes like what you get if you go to one of those little sushi places where they don't even list drinks on the menu and ask 'do you have hot tea?' They always do, and it's this. Some days that's truly all you want.
I'm a sucker for green teas and this delivered. Would definitely recomend.
I didn’t care for this one. There was something about it that just didn’t taste that great to me.
I wasn't a huge fan of this one, but I'm starting to think unflavoured greens just aren't for me. They all just taste a bit too much like broth.
This tea was so green!! It's got a really nice grassy flavor without a whole lot of astringency. I normally like my teas to make me pucker a little, but this had a really nice flavor that made up for it imo.
This is my go-to tea. I have it on auto-delivery so I never miss a day.
A classic cup of green tea. The only downside I can find with this tea is its too easy to mis-brew. But it is a wonderful cup of green tea when made correctly.
Very nice and deep grassy green tea, smells very vegetal as well
My husband's favorite green tea from this company. It has a really complex layered flavor that isn't just 'herby'
