Every cupboard needs a classic green tea, and this is one of mine! As with any green tea, be careful not to steep it too long
Steamed green tea from Japan. Gyokuro is among the finest of Japanese teas. Deeply sweet, aroma of freshly buttered greens - no grassiness or harshness. Soft on the palate with a balanced, delicate finish. Soothing and centering cup of tea.

Every cupboard needs a classic green tea, and this is one of mine! As with any green tea, be careful not to steep it too long
You get what you pay for with this green tea. It is worth every penny. It has a wonderful flavor to it, not too earthy like most green teas, it is very smooth and has a lot of flavor. A little bit goes a long way. Don't steep too long, it gets bitter quick. 2 minutes is perfect for one cup.
A delightful mild sencha, with floral undertones.
This was very lovely. I steeped it at a low temperature, which worked out great. No astringency, a very gentle and inoffensive flavor, with some of the green boldness of matcha. The color of the steeped leaves was an amazing rich, forest green, like no other tea leaf I've seen. Definitely this tea deserves its name of 'jade dew'.
The cup I tried in the store had a wonderful flavor though bitter finish. I know the staff was diligent in their preparation, so I chalked it up to a fluke, bought the tea anyways, and am very glad I did so. This is a wonderful green tea, the type that makes me neglect all the other teas in my cabinet.
Nice japanese tea, I liked the colour and I think its a good taste-value ratio.
Spectacular taste, but prohibitively expensive for an everyday tea.
chopped up and powdery tea, reminded me allot of tea from tea bags. Light green tea earthy flavor. Would not put it in the sweet category that the description gives. Not a bad tea just not worth the high price. this is a one time buy for me.
This is a really really GREEN tea. The color of the leaves is really captivating, and the aroma and delicate, yet flavorful taste of the brew is unlike any green tea I've had before.
not really my kind of thing... very mellow but not very tasty. excellent health benefits though!
This is a really nice tea but the price is pretty outrageous, even for this style.
Gyokuro and Sencha Premier are my two favorite green teas on Adagio. Of the two, the sencha is a little more vegetative tasting and the gyokuro is smokier.
Not a bad tea. Certainly drinkable, but tasted a bit too grassy for my taste, and reminded me vaguely of seaweed.
This was an interesting green tea. Shorter brew time at a lower temperature, but still very good. Plus by increasing the brew time by about 1 extra minute for each re-brew, I can get about 3 brews out of each portion. Another interesting note to me is that it was also quite good without sugar. That was very impressive to me, since I don't normally like unsweet tea.
Maybe somethings wrong with me but I like the cheaper Japanese teas more than this one. It's ok, just not worth the extra money in my opinion. The sencha overture seemed to have more complex flavor. 1 and a half minutes @170f.
It was a decent tea, the only problem I had with it was that I got one brew out of this very expensive tea, and that made it so much worse. I will not be buying this again unless the price drops, which I doubt it will.
This tea is definately worth the price. I am still trying to acquire a 'love' for green tea because it is very good for you. This tea made it much easier and I actually enjoy drinking it.
This is one of the best green teas I've ever had. It's expensive, but delicious. It's light, but still not the lightest green that I've tried.
This is the smoothest green tea I've ever had. It's texture on your tongue is reminiscent of buttery... It is just smooth. I love it! It doesn't have any bitterness too it. It's such a lovely addition to any meal.
Fresh 'green' delicious taste. Green in color. Expensive as fawk which is what kept it from being rated 'great'. I'll probably order again as a treat, but not regularly.
Hands down, the best tasting green tea I've ever had.
Both very 'green' in flavor and also smooth and creamy.
I haven't tried other gyokuro teas to compare this to, but it seemed to be really broken up and powdery. It doesn't hold up well to multiple steepings, though the first one is good if the brewing time is kept short.
I enjoyed drinking this green tea, it's smooth and has good taste. The only detractor is that it tasted a bit like grass... I'll vary brewing times to see if I can minimize that flavor :)
I agree with others who have pointed out how 'fussy' this tea is. You have to be careful with the temperature and brew time, or you will end up with a bitter cup. I try not to let it go more than 2 minutes, and keep the water under 180 degrees. I have also found that it doesn't really hold up well to multiple brewings. The second brewing is noticeably weaker, and anything more than that is not worth the effort. When you get it right, this is a really nice grassy green tea. A very assertive vegetal flavor for those who like that sort of thing (I do). One star deduction because my samples were both very powdery, not the nice leaves shown in the picture here.
This is a exactly what you would expect a great geen tea to taste like. Spring, a warm sun and the smell of green things, alive and growing all around.
I haven't quite mastered brewing this one yet, but have gotten close to what I think is its best. I love the color this brews into and I love the floral character of this tea. I bought the sample and may buy again.
Love this variety of tea. If you dislike floaties in your tea, you might use the bags that adagio sells (100 bags for 3 bucks) to help strain out the fannings. Makes me wonder about the quality of the gyokuro that Adagio sells. Still, it tastes sublime with a very gentle sweet grassy note.
This definitely has a spinach/sea weed taste and aroma to it. It's not a in your face sort of taste though. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but still enjoyable.
For the price of this tea, I expect it to blow my mind. I did not. But it is enjoyable, just at a bad price.
Excellent fragrance, and tasty enough, but the flavor just wasn't there, it seemed a bit flat.
I have tried some of the higher quality gyokuro, and the Adagio version does not fall short by any means! It has the same fresh, dewy taste and aroma. I recommend!
I was really excited to try this tea. I was looking for something grassy but what I got was even better. It tasted and smelled like a cross between seaweed and spinach, which to me, is a very good thing. I know it sounds odd but it tastes amazing. I definitely love this tea and will be ordering more.
Distinctive taste. Very grassy and 'green' in flavor. For those who like a bold green tea.
I enjoy this green tea and it definitely gives me a kick in the morning!
This is my personal favorite green tea, with one major caveat
I think this is the best green tea that I have ever had. Make sure that you keep the time short for extraction with this tea.
Very expensive, enjoyed the benefits it had to offer.
That is the best green tea ever! Sharp and strong, awakening and mind clearing. Best of the best, except it is damn expensive.
A good green tea. Robust flavor without the grassiness so often encountered. Seems to be a better occasional tea than a steady drinker - for those times when you want a cup of TEA.
I bought this to try as a less expensive alternative to Teavana's Gyokuro, but the shorter broken leaves didn't give as nice a flavor and didn't stand up to as many brewings. It's good, but I feel it's worth it to spend a little more for better tea that you can steep more times.
A very light , mild, refreshing healthy tea. Great to drink anytime .
This is a good Japanese green tea. However, I prefer kukicha. This tea, in my opinion, has a very salty taste to it and has a very high caffeine content.
Although it is my first gyokuro, I have had my share of different sencha and bancha teas before. This tea surpassed the others I have tried in terms of body, aroma and intensity of the flavor. It filled my mouth like no other tea and the aroma of the leaves, during brewing and while drinking were great. Strong vegetal and grass flavor. You need to brew at a lower temperature than regular green teas and for 2 minutes or the experience will not be as enjoyable as it should be.
The cut is a little on the short side, so it isn't the super premium stuff, but it's still a great tea!
A great traditional green tea. A friend of mine is actually looking to use this in his cafe/bakery to sell.
One of the best green tea I ever tasted. I like the taste and color of this tea. The price is a litte too high.
So far, my favorite tea that I have sampled. A robust flavor without the bitterness of lesser green teas.
I have never had any other gyokuro, so I don't know how it would compare to others -- but I can say that I really like this tea! I didn't have a problem with it tasting bitter, to me it tasted very mellow and light on the palate. Some people might be oversteeping it if it turns out bitter. I will try other brands to see if there's any difference, but I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. =)
I keep waffling on this tea. One day I find it very suitable and the next not so satisfying. I think it works best, for me, as a good blending tea. I absolutely love its ultralight, "floaty" appearance!
