pu-erh spice

Based on 771 reviews
Pleasantly perky spices add warmth and sweetness to the mellow mineral notes of Pu Erh. Sweet cinnamon and anise with tingly ginger liven up the palate while soothing the soul. A great companion for a chilly day.

I lost my streak too, my internet would not connect to Adagio last night for some reason. Really wish I would have made a comment of some sort during the day but was so busy at work. Ugh

Yeah, I was busy yesterday during the day, and then I fell asleep. Woke up after midnight and didn't do a pic or review yesterday. C'est la vie.

I liked this one. Usually pu-erh is in a ball or half circle chunk and way to strong. This was the perfect serving.

I like pu-erh, but have never had it in a ball or half circle chunk; I think I won't; based on your saying it's too strong.

Good morning or Goodnight tea friends! Now that I received so much good info and comments from the tea pet question a day or two ago I have another question. I do want to get a tea pet and have one picked out in my Amazon cart right now. I have been thinking about getting a Gongfu tea set to go with my teapet. I have a Kyusu set that I love to use, but I didn't know if there's was enough difference to justify getting a Gong fu set also. I see several online that are ceramic, but I was leaning more towards getting a clay set. What are your favorite Gongfu sets and where did you get yours?
12:29 am
user icon
Chasi, I found two antique sets at the antique mall that were really inexpensive.
12:38 am
user icon
That's a great idea. I have a couple here in town I should go check out.
11:22 am
user icon
I have turned into a Teaware junkie, and have acquired a few gongfu sets (travel sets). My favorite is ceramic, from Amazon. It pours well and is pretty. It was not expensive either. (I also bought the blue and white version.) This is the one I use every morning, when I go into my office. That's a really cute set. Love the shape of the teapot.

user icon
Nice. Welcome to the teaware junkie club ;). You can never have enough teacups and teapots.
07:42 am
user icon
Very cute set! I really like that and the price is great. I noticed all the travel sets on Amazon.
08:31 am
user icon
I love my gongfu sets! Particularly when I drink those masters teas. All mine are inexpensive porcelain ones purchased from various online tea sellers and amazon
08:30 am
user icon
Agree! So great to use for the higher quality teas 😊
01:17 pm
user icon
I have been doing all kinds of research on this and found a warning or 2 that you have to take care with clay sets to make sure you get legit, safe clay and clay is usually recommended for a single tea type as it will absorb the flavors of the tea over time enhancing the experience. A porcelain set seems like a more versatile starter option.
07:27 pm
user icon
Oh Pogi….what sharp teeth you have! 😄
12:34 am

Good morning Dorothy. I caught him at the peak of a yawn. I think he gets bored with me taking so many pictures of him. ;)

user icon
Take care of yourself Christine!
06:19 am
user icon
I am so sorry! I feel your pain. I ended up buying a voice enhancer from Amazon. It saved my voice and allowed me to be heard through the mask. Definitely worth the money I spent to help me get through the year. My voice volume is already low, because of my thyroid issues and speaking for 8-10 hours through a mask everyday was damaging to my vocal cords. The voice enhancer helped! Edited: Also, if you keep your vocal cords moist at all times that will help (tea or water with lemon). At home I would eat honey and garlic cloves to break through the hoarseness I got everyday. Now I bring two teas with me everyday, hot and iced. I sip my hot tea throughout the whole morning. I drink my iced tea after lunch, when most of the ice has melted and it's still cool.
08:35 am
user icon
Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Good evening everyone! If you replied to my post before the chat rolled into 'today', I apologize but I didn't see it. I have a silly question for the hive mind tho
02:20 am
user icon
I was so tired I left Tea Talk while several others were still there (unusual for me unless I’m at work) and then zonked out, only went back to read yesterday’s chat just now. What’s the question? 😁
04:24 am
user icon
I really really enjoyed today's tea!
02:22 am
user icon
I recently tried golden needle yunnan for the first time and it blew my mind. I don't really know how to wrap my head around the quantity it's sold in tho because it only comes in 1.5oz or 8oz. I feel like 8oz is too much but 1.5oz wouldn't be enough?
02:28 am
user icon
It looks like it would be a pretty lightweight tea, so you might get a good amount of leaves in 1.5 oz
02:38 am
user icon
It is very lightweight, roughly half the standard black tea weight. I’m guessing with the nature of this tea that the 1.5oz is the same size as the typical 3oz bag. The same size bag holds 2oz Yunnan Jig.

Julie, I love your photo of Zoey today! So cute lurking in the bookcase.

She loves to lurk and peek out from behind things. :)
06:39 am
user icon
Omg! She’s adorable!
01:31 pm
user icon
My husband has this thing where he will see Zoey lurking and then pretend she scared him. In this bad horror movie style over-acted voice he says "Ahhhhh! Oh my Zoey you scared me!'' He says it gives her evil cat ego a boost. It's HILARIOUS. Festus says she is over-rated....I just think he's jealous that he's kinda too big to lurk.
01:34 pm
user icon
That’s excellent! Gemma does like to surprise scare us by darting from around a corner or catching us and often a fake reaction isn’t necessary. 😄 I do give her a boost when I notice first, though, or when she’s playing, “Oh my goodness, you got me. What a vicious hunter! I am dead.”

01:36 pm
user icon
I agree, I have found some green teas I enjoyed with CT, and some of the green blends are really nice, whereas before CT I thought they all tasted like hay or grass or nothing at all.
03:21 pm
user icon
I am with you, Julie. I never liked drinking hot grass-water until I discovered the big difference between Japanese (grass) teas and Chinese (floral, light, lovely) teas. Can you tell to which I am partial, LOL

07:44 am
user icon
Hi Deborah. I'm still a bit new to loose leaf teas. What do you mean when you say you forgot to 'rinse the tea' this morning? Is that important. God bless and have a great day.
08:07 am
user icon
Sometimes they need a quick rinse to remove dust or unpleasant smells. I usually check Jim R's reviews to see if a rinse is needed. He has great information in his reviews!
09:03 am
user icon
Pu-erh is a fermented tea. It might need a quick rinse, depending on whether you detect a fishy-ness to it at first. Put the tea into your infuser and add your hot water to cover it 15-20sec, then test it. If it’s fishy you can dump that rinse water and then proceed as normal. Jim is most fond of pu-erh and has taught us all a great deal.
02:00 pm
user icon
Hi Marlicia, I believe Deborah is fond of gonfu brew (as I am, too). Part of the process includes hotter water with a fast tea rince, then faster steeping using a bit more tea leaf than Western brewing. The rinse opens up the leaf and helps to infuse more of the essential oils in the leaves. It also eliminate the bitterness that can occur with longer Western steeping methods. If you ever want to really get geeky about tea, check out Don Mei's Youtube series; very entertaining and educational. https://meileaf.com/article/getting-geeky-with-teaware/
07:02 pm
user icon
I didn’t really think this one needed a rinse. There were no off putting smells and it tasted great without a rinse.
10:58 am
user icon
have you tried the chocolate chai pu'ehr yet? I had some this morning....really liked it. Spice and chocolate with that mineral pu'ehr taste.
01:38 pm
user icon
I always forget to rinse mine. I did remember this morning though and discovered that it didn't really need it. The rinse water tasted fine so I drank that too.
04:54 pm

I seriously need to invest in a tea set....I'd love to have an inexpensive tea ceremony set up to use when I need to find that inner peace or to share some lovely tea with a friend. A nice clay tea pet, tray. clay tea pot and cups..... That might just have to be my holiday present to myself. :)

Where I grew up in the midwest it always seemed that fall was five minutes long and then straight to winter. Love that it's so mild here until Christmastime. :)

I sipped on Maple Creme Oolong this morning. Glorious taste of fall. When I gave my husband a sip he said it tastes like Thanksgiving. He had Wuyi Ensemble, which he loves.

I'm going to have that next! Yum!

I haven’t had a chance to break open my sample. I brought ghoul gulp, cat scratch, and bat brew with me this weekend along with sloth and the daily teas. Really enjoyed today’s pu-erh. It wasn’t overly earthy and the spices were well balanced. Followed with the yummy cat scratch!
09:59 am

Wuyi ensemble is my absolute favorite. I have treated myself to that one the last couple days. It is absolutely marvelous and a symphony to my taste buds. I wish I could review it, but I only have the sample. I plan to buy a bigger bag the next payday. EDITED: I just realized I did review this tea. So I just added some more to the review. lol!

I've had Pu'erh Spice before and it's okay, but pu'erh just isn't my thing. So, I'll be giving this packet to someone else. The nice part of having names on packets without dates is that I don't look like a creeper giving a hand written packet to someone else. Now on to Bella Luna.

Morning all. Changing it up today with a photo of some of my succulents. It's a small bowl of some that have propagated. They cannot be stopped! I'd say run for it but they're, uh, pretty slow growers and not mobile like, say, a Triffid. So I think we're gonna be ok.
10:18 am

Weren’t the Triffids carried throughout the ship and stored until they exploded? So depending on how many rooms you’ve put these in….😂

02:47 pm

That one was made by Barry. I claimed it. One of my few exceptions to drinking tea solely from tea cups.
07:40 pm

It was! Barry has been bitten by the sour dough bug lately, and I am happy to indulge in the bread he bakes. This one was reminiscent of bread we used to get at Black Crow bakery when vacationing near Litchfield, Maine.

To my surprise, I didn't really like this one. I love pu-erh, but I grew up drinking the aged stuff (those disks/spheres mentioned earlier this morning) and I think I'm just used to drinking it without extra stuff added.
11:34 am

I would love to try aged puerh in a disk. I have seen them online, but am hesitant to purchase a whole disk and not like it. Any you would recommend? And best place to purchase?

Hello, tea drinkers. How are you today? Can you feel a chill in the air, wherever you are? I needed Pu-erh Spice this morning. It has such a warm cinnamon flavor. The spice doesn't overwhelm the tea. Subtle and mellow. A true autumn tea.

Indeed! I am ready for colder temperatures and yummy cozy teas!

Nope. Not my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of shou puer or of spiced tea. Straight it smelled and tasted like potpourri and dirt to me. Adding milk helped mute the flavors.

Hubby's cold brew pitchers were all empty.....he was giving me the sad look. So refilled. :) Key lime herbal/Irish breakfast. Apricot black tea/kona pineapple. and Peach oolong/Raspberry patch. I think I have him addicted....he no longer asks why I buy so much tea. ha ha
01:56 pm
user icon
@Julie, a couple months back you mentioned your cold brew pitchers so I added one to my Adagio order. I loved your idea to keep a tea cold brewing in the refrigerator. I haven't started blending yet, because I don't want to get to work with a bad blend. lol! I need to experiment a little at home first. It has also made my mornings go much smoother now that I don't have to steep two teas every morning, one for hot one for iced. A big plus is that my ice doesn't completely melt before getting to work. My son loves it also and it is so handy for him to have tea when he comes home for lunch when I am not there. I usually use 4 scoops of the tea on the first day, then I add two more scoops the next day and refill with water. What measurements you do to make your cold brews? Thank you for the advice!
02:14 pm
user icon
I usually blend a black/oolong or other basic tea (2T) and a fruit/herbal (2T). Some stronger black teas like irish breakfast I use a bit less .... like 1 1/2 T. You just have to experiment and see what you like. We've found some we don't like cold brewed....like YuletideToddy (better hot in our opinion) and Pina Colada was just too coconut forward cold-brewed for us. Just experiment and have fun with it! I agree -- it is so convenient and wonderful to always have tea available. My husband has grown to really love the blends and drinks them up as fast as I can refill pitchers. And now he understands why I'm picky about my tea....when he runs out and has to brew from his old teabags he complains about how he prefers Adagio teas. :) If you find any teas you particularly like cold brewed, please share! Always up for trying new ideas!!
03:06 pm

I usually have a pitcher of watermelon cooler and peppermint cold brewing. I stumbled on it over the summer, and I try to keep it around most of the time.

@Julie, my favorite blend to cold brew is Diona. It is so delicious! I have a blend called "Ready for Diamonds" that I made for my husband because he loves Red Diamond tea and I wanted to create a healthier Southern style tea option for him. I have tried Lavender Lemon cold brewed and we didn't like it as much as we like it hot. I love to cold brew just plain Adagio spearmint-5 teaspoons. It is very refreshing and helps my voice last all day teaching.
05:53 pm
user icon
Your black tea blend sounds delicious! I have all those in my stash...will mix them and try it! Diona sounds yummy too -- wild strawberry pairs so well with so many teas! The spearmint sounds lovely too!

Hello everyone! I am looking for a recommendation for an easy to clean tea diffuser so if anyone has any they really love..........I'd love to hear about them.
03:29 pm
user icon
The ingenuitea is actually really easy to clean. I’m able to clean the 2 with paper towels (don’t have regular access to a sink at work) but it’s even easier with a sink. I also really like little cotton bags (you can get 50 for $10 on amazon). Just turn them inside out and rinse.
03:32 pm
user icon
Seconded on the IngenuiTEA2.
07:09 pm
user icon
I highly recommend the Adagio SimpliciTea infuser. I like them so much I have 2! It is essentially a little glass pitcher with an sieve kind of lid. Easy to wash off the tea stains & keep clean!
03:53 pm
user icon
It is so nice! I love using it. I can see the leaves unfurling and it steeps just the correct amount of tea for me.
08:57 pm
user icon
Single use unbleached paper tea bags are the easiest. Just use and toss. But bags restrict the leaves from opening fully so you may sacrifice some flavor with certain teas.
11:59 pm
user icon
The British one is on BBC or HBOMax. The American one is CBS. :) Let me know what you think! Oops meant as a reply to Shelly....but it ended up down at the bottom somehow.....
03:31 pm
user icon
Thanks, Elizabeth! I work from home so I always have a sink available. I had an ingenuitea at some point but I think it got lost in a move.

50 Pieces Cheesecloth Bags Tea Strainer Bags Reusable Coffee Tea Brew Herb Bags Cotton Muslin Drawstring Bags Mesh Filter Bags for Office Home Kitchen, Beige (4 x 3 Inch) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B084SB1K8L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0KWTMEWW7S7MNAB4EKQC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 This is an example of the bags. They’re good with all levels of tea (no rooibos dust!) and are super compact. I brought two with me this weekend for a hotel. I turned it inside out and emptied out the tea and laid it out to dry. Any tea left just brushed off. Super easy to use.

I have these bags and have not used them yet. Do you have to put in the wash machine? Im a bit confused on how to get the flavors out of the bags so im stuck just letting them sit in a drawer until i figure it out lol
06:59 pm
user icon
You can wash them (id put them in a delicates bag just to keep them from getting lost or eaten). I usually just do a really solid rinse with hot water at the sink and let them dry on the drying rack. I don’t have a problem with lingering flavor!

I've tried this before; I think someone gifted it to me, because I remember being surprised to get it. I'm not a big fan of pu-erh but I do like spiced teas like chais, and I think the spices here helped balance out the pu-erh flavor for me. I think sweetening and adding milk (like I do for chais) helps, too. I'm boiling water now, so a picture will be up in a few minutes.
06:00 pm

hey, everyone! happy feral cat day! i know i have some fellow cat parents here, so i want to offer a word of caution for those of us who drink slumbering sloth. a friend i've made on here sent me a sample tin so i could try this tea, and when i steep it, my cats (and especially my kitten) get very interested in it. a quick google search says that cats like lemon balm, which is in this tea. i don't know what skullcap may do to them, but i doubt it'd be good, so we need to be careful that our babies don't get any. i collect my tea debri from my infusers to chuck out in my yard to decompose, and i'm kind of a klutz and tend to spill a little and my kitten always tries to lap it up. so, yeah. be mindful of your babies around this tea, because it smells yummy to them.

Hello all! I've been reviewing tea from here on TikTok and it's been really well received (I think I have near 5000 followers now?) But I thought it was time I started interacting with the tea peeps on here. So, hello!

I'm very intrigued by the spice in this tea!
07:07 pm
user icon
I can remember the first time I tried a pu-erh tea a couple of years ago without really knowing what to expect. Halfway through my cup, I ended up dumping it out because I couldn't shake the feeling that I was drinking paint water due to the mineral-y taste from the tea! Now that I know that that flavor is expected, I find myself able to enjoy pu-erh more, especially when it is accompanied by nice flavors like the spices in this blend.
07:15 pm
user icon
I actually really like the spice in this tea. Really yummy
07:21 pm
user icon
I'm absolutely hate anise but I actually really enjoyed this tea! I didn't even notice until I reread the ingredients!
07:49 pm
user icon
Ive read quite alot of tea peeps today (in tea chat) saying they dislike the taste of anise and i am curious what exactly anise tastes like. Ive had it before (not just in todays tea) but i just cant place the flavor. Because of the numbers of today saying they dislike it so much I wonder if its anything like how some people hate broccoli and others love it & science genetics has shown the people who hate broccoli taste a compound in broccoli that not everyone can taste. However, its prob not that complicated, I just noticing a trend today. Now i have to ask- do anise haters like broccoli?
08:12 pm
user icon
I am anise hater who also hates broccoli
08:58 pm
user icon
It’s a relative of fennel. The taste is akin to black licorice and is present in EVERY cookie my husband’s 100% Italian family makes for all occasions, but especially Christmas pizzelles.
09:05 pm
user icon
FYI I hate anise but am okay with broccoli.
09:05 pm
user icon
If it helps, Erin, lemon poppy pizzelles for the anise haters usually go over well. Anise is definitely a licorice taste, Julia, but not nearly as heavy as the sen sens my mother used to like. (FYI, I like anise and broccoli, but not together. :-) )
11:09 pm
user icon
Broccoli not a fav veggie unless i douse it with ranch dressing or sweet and hot chili sauce but I do like anise. I'm part Italian so those pizzelles that Erin doesn't like are a favorite Christmas treat for me.

One of the things I learned in our always educational chat yesterday is that you can open the packets straight across without cutting the edges. Who knew? I tried it today and it worked! I'll probably still keep clipping an end off though. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I need the kitchen scissors and they're sitting where they're supposed to be. Everyone needs small achievements in their lives. lol

I am finally home from Dragon Festival! It was an amazing weekend. So grateful for everything that happened! <3 Also, Today's tea dragon is a chai latte dragon, part of my personal collection. Her name is Cassia (which is a name for cinnamon)! She is my favorite dragon that I've made recently!

This was just what I needed today. Finishing my 3rd steep now and then having the honeybush pumpkin chai before bed. Spicy is nicy! 😁

I tried some pu-erh tea before and it wasn't my favorite, but I really like it with spices here.
