Golden Monkey or Jin Hou is a famous Chinese black tea whose leaves are said to resemble monkey paws. Golden Monkey originates from the Fujian province of China and is hand-processed each spring with careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud. This Golden Monkey is sweet and very "nosy": savory roasted apples, palm sugar, walnut, cocoa, rye and spice notes that linger as you sip. Rich, coating texture and very smooth, soft mouthfeel are both signs of a quality Jin Hou. This is a very complex black tea and can be enjoyed in multiple infusions, a real treat for black tea lovers.

12:21 am
Good evening, Paula. I love to read, but as I have gotten older I have really started to enjoy audiobooks. However, in honor of my hubby I added his stats to the photo caption. He has always been a hardcover lover, but in recent years I got him booked on Kindle. I quizzed him again on his 2024 book total, and he reminded me that he did better in 2023šš¤£š. War and Peace is at the bottom of the stack in his honor. It's one of his favorite books, he read it the first time in junior high school, voluntarily over summer break. The following year his teacher discussed it and when he commented that he had read it she told him that was unlikely. She quizzed him on it in front of the class, and soon discovered that he had indeed read it. Being a very good teacher she apologized for doubting him.š
12:38 am
Sadly, I had the opposite experience in school. In first grade, our teacher asked us what books we had read. I mentioned a book that was a short novel and she didnāt believe that I had read it by myself. She hadnāt read it so couldnāt ask me questions about it, but accused me of lying. I was quite distraught over the whole thing. My brother had taught me how to read before I went to kindergarten so I didnāt think it was unusual.
05:18 am
Nancy, I had a similar problem growing up. I learned to read by time I was 3 or 4 because I was hospitalized so frequently so that was about all I could do. So by time I was in 4th or 5th grade I already had beyond a college reading level, so our library didn't have any books for me and I felt very stunted and forgotten about. I also once had a teacher accuse me of plagiarism because I used "respectively" appropriately in a sentence. 𤣠I've just always had a deep understanding and passion for languages, both English and others.
08:10 am
Michelle, I consume far more audiobooks than books I actually read. My time is limited and I can listen to audiobooks while Iām doing other things. Iāve listened to seven of them this week already. Iām very thankful for audiobooks.
08:29 am
I, too, read War and Peace at a very early age...and loved it. There was a period where I read every Russian novel I could find. I have a beautiful illustrated two-volume set of War and Peace in our at-home library and plan on rereading it soon.
10:23 am
I learned to read at an early age. There were about 6 of us who already knew how to read in kindergarten, so the teacher gave us special projects to work on when she had the reading lessons. I was fortunate that my school was prepared for us (this was back in the early 70s), and I still love to read today (when I can find time for it)
08:32 am
That's great that your teacher and school were adaptable and didn't hold you back or let you be bored with exercises you already knew.
09:38 am
Ruth, I was like you. By the time I started kindergarten I already knew how to read and write. My mother started me off at an early age and made it fun so I've always enjoyed reading and learning. My parents were older when I was born, 44 and 60 respectively, and they had a post retirement job of managing a small motel when I was a little girl. It was a lovely little place just a nice run-of-the-mill motel but well kept, and had a pool. Another skill I learned very early was how to balance the cash drawer. I was helping her reconcile the drawer after I got home from first grade.
12:20 pm
Ditto here. Oh how I love to read!

I am finally ready for bed, fingers crossed that I rest tonight. I'm taking a free understanding Alzheimer's class around noon that should give me some pointers in helping to care for my mother who may have it. I am hopeful to remain calm throughout this entire illness but I must confess, it seriously stresses me to the max some days and nights. Off topic,...... the sky is so peaceful this early morning. I can hear the thunder of Niagara Falls echoing in the darkness. Although it is frigid at 18 degrees, I found the night air refreshing for a very quick spell of exposure to it. Sleep well
02:23 am
It's a scary thing :( Hugs~ š¤
02:42 am
My grandmother had Alzheimer's. It's such a sad disease to watch. My mother had some great respite caretakers provided by the county, so she was able to get out of the house for a while a few times a week and not have to worry about what she was going to come home to. How far are you from the falls?
08:35 am
The sound of the falls would be relaxing. You must be very close to hear them like this. Enjoy each step and learn what you can as you can. Deep breaths and tea help too.
10:17 am
Mary A, my heart goes out to you. It is a very difficult illness for the person affected and for family and friends to understand and cope with. Hugs and much love.

Good morning, lovely Adagians. Happy Thursday! I hope you are having a great start to your day and staying warm. I will be venturing out for the first time this week now that the furnace is fixed and the temps are slightly higher (in the teens at the moment, I believe), so I need to get to my workout so I can get to Mass and later my dentist appointment. Hang tight Nancy, it's almost over. Just one more day to go. I know my husband is really feeling it right now, too. His boss is still not coming in after breaking his leg right before thanksgiving. Honestly, he has the onset of Alzheimer's I believe, and I don't know if he really will come back.
12:25 pm
Good morning all. I had a busy day yesterday but in a good way. My hike was canceled today, not because itās 8 degrees outside but because the hike leader has a new grandchild on the way and needs to watch the big sister! Iām delighted that itās happening today. Iām going to make a cup of tea (I think I have some Black Jasmine Song) and have a relaxing breakfast and then Iāll be going through what seems to be a hundred picture frames that I have collected over the years, deciding which ones to keep and which to box up for donations. Afterwards Iāll remove the treasured photos. Oh, and Iāll be reading as well. I am into 2 novels now. Iām listening to James on audiobook, and reading a physical book of Project Hail Mary. They are both excellent and I had another book waiting for me at the library last night so Iām going to pick up my pace today. Fortunately I have a little speaker I can set up when I start going through the picture frames.
07:11 am
I am never sure what I think of black jasmine song, may need to try again. Green jasmine is a face! Have a good time wandering down memory lane, are you gathering your photos in the now rare photo album? Photos are on phones now, and less so printed I feel ;)
07:14 am
Truth about phones! I keep thinking about printing more of mine...
07:24 am
I'm not sure yet either of what I think about black jasmine song. I tried it hot once and wasn't sure of what I thought about it. I've been meaning to try it cold brewed as I usually love iced floral teas. Maybe I'll do that today.
08:43 am
Michelle, I like Jasmine Phoenix Pearls much better than Black Jasmine Song, but itās nice for a change every now and then. I am a scrapbooker, so the photos will eventually end up there, unless theyāre duplicates, then I will choose whichever is in best condition when I get there. I agree that while phone cameras are wonderful, they complicate the preservation of memories. Itās hard to keep track of them and find them when you want them.
09:26 am
Project Hail Mary is an excellent read! Enjoy!!
09:28 am
Cool. I'm really looking forward to reading that soon.
09:46 am
I listened to the audiobook of James. Very interesting work. Project Hail Mary is short-listed on my endless to-be-read list. I'd love to hear what you think of it when you finish.
09:46 am
Sounds busy and productive Janet. Enjoy learning and cleaning.
10:19 am
Janet, I have been thinking about reading James and your recommendation means I will definitely seek it out. Thank you.
10:29 am
Happy reading day! Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I have been a 'reader' since I was a kid, tucked under the sheets as an impromptu tent using the glowing red light of my alarm clock to read some more ;)
07:16 am
Happy Reading Day! I enjoy reading, but I don't read as much as I used to. Life had gotten in the way. I also think, ironically, being an English teacher got me out of the habit because I felt I had to read the books I was teaching rather than the books I might want to read. I need to redevelopment the habit and today seems like a good day to start!
07:33 am
Life can get in the way. I find I lean into comfortable favorite re reads when life is crazy. Sadly, I feel the required reading that one must force oneself to read is a problem. To be a book for school there must be trauma, misery, no happy ending and sometimes text that is just impossible to read (think Shakespeare here, sorry, I get it is amazing but really difficult to read)
10:03 am
I have been obsessed with books since I was a tot. My mother read to me when I was very small but books were hard to come by when I got a little older. The only ones we had at home were the volumes of the World Book Encyclopedia. I loved to go to my neighbor's home. She had been an English teacher and had Hardy Boy books that her son, who was about ten years older than I was, had. I would read them avariciously. We lived out of the city limits so I did not have a library card and could not go to the library. My mother did not drive at that time. When I was finally able to earn a bit of money for myself I got a library card ($25 a year). Sadly our library was not the best and it was hard to find good books there. I enrolled in a paperback classics book club and was in seventh heaven (I paid for it myself). When the mail delivery came with my books I was the happiest kid alive. When I got older I would skip lunch and purchase paperback books from the bookmobile when it came to our school. When I was in high school our school had a library and I would check out books from there...heaven! I had a friend in junior high who loved Agatha Christie and had her books in paperback. She gave them to me and I spent every spare moment one summer reading every one of them. Ah, books...My hubby and I both love to read and now have a huge library of our own. I also have a library within walking distance, and it is a marvelous library. Plus our mail carrier is an avid reader. She buys books like crazy and reads much faster than I do. She then gives me all of the books after she has read them (her husband will not let her keep them) and I donate them to our library after I (and hubby, if he wishes) have read them. I am now in book heaven.
10:39 am
Mary my big sister, (half sister from my father's side and 30 years old when I was born), was a librarian. When she'd come to visit she'd always bring an armful of books for me. I got hooked on Gothic novels at first but when I discovered Asimov and Arthur C Clarke it was sci-fi all the way through my early youth. I still love those stories today.
12:29 pm
I had a cousin from Virginia whom I would see occasionally when she and her parents and siblings traveled to Illinois to visit my parents and other relatives who lived in our area. She was older than me and knew I loved to read. She subscribed to Reader's Digest Condensed Books and would bring her books out to me after she had read them. Oh how I loved that cousin! I would not think of reading a condensed book now, but at that time the condensed versions exposed me to many writers that I loved and I sought out their books later when I was able to obtain some on my own.
02:58 pm
Same! I almost burnt our trailer down by putting my pillowcase over my wall sconce so I could read more without the light being visible under the door! I would stay up way past my bedtime.
04:37 pm
Good morning

Good morning from Curacao! We got in last night about 5 just before it got dark. 87 degrees! A bit different than the -1 in Buffalo when we left. I didn't bring much tea with me. They only have Lipton here š¤£
07:45 am
My husband laughs at the amount of tea that I bring with me on vacation! My favorite thing to do in Curacao is to walk over Queen Emma floating bridge in Willemstad. We have only been there as a stop on a cruise, but it's a beautiful island!
08:38 am
Wow! Have a great time!

Reading day? What a great way to spend time while sipping away. I love books but as I've gotten older I've been thankful for my Kindle because I can make the font big enough to read any book I can download, yay!
09:23 am
Kindles are great for vacations as well Tee. You can pack as much as you can read with little added weight. I usually poke into used book stores on vacation though, and then end up packing books when Iām heading home!
09:33 am
I love my kindle for all of these reasons! All the books in one small device and the ability to change font/print size, it is my precious!
09:59 am
Tee, I love reading on my cell phone using the Kindle app or on the tablet itself. It's lighter weight and with my magnifying eyeballs I can take off my glasses and hold it at a comfortable distance from my face and read to my heart's content without worrying about the weight of a book and the different and sometimes too small fonts.
12:33 pm
Does anyone know what is going on with the filters for the GraviTEA? Theyāre apparently out of stock but they are not even listed anymore. Does that mean they are discontinued and wonāt be back?
09:35 am
Oh no! They have to come back. I love my GraviTEA and use it constantly. Without it I'd have to descale my kettles every other day. Sure hope it's just a temporary issue.
09:51 am
I hope so too!

09:37 am
Good morning! This week is going so slow.
10:07 am
Good morning tea sipping buddies. I see there are also a lot of readers in our group. I have a goal of reading an average of 100 pages a day and a total of 104 books this year. So far I am meeting my goals. I am reading Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time. It is comprised of seven volumes and is, to my knowledge, the longest novel ever written. The prose is beautiful, and so descriptive. I am taking my time reading it as I want to linger over every word. I am, of course, reading other books at the same time. I usually have three or four going at one time...some light, some dense, some in between. Books, along with tea, are my passion. I started the day with Blueberry (black) tea, and it was delicious. I hope you are all safe and cozy. The wintery weather has certainly been a challenge to many.
10:19 am
Proust is quite an endeavor. Glad you're enjoying it. I, too, always have a few books going at once. It's nice to switch between non-fiction, fiction, and easy-reading and more detailed or dense books. Does anyone here use Goodreads? I'd be glad to add anyone as a friend there. I can send you my email address via private message here if you'd like to send me yours.
10:38 am
Hello Nancy, I use Goodreads all the time to look up authors and keep track of book series so I listen or read the next one in order. I don't usually log in, but I'll send you my email address in the DM, it would be fun to see what else is available in the app.
12:36 pm
I also use Goodreads mainly as reference but would be happy to start up the friends functionality. I am always on the search for my next good book! PM away! Thanks!
04:45 pm
That sounds like quite the reading project, Mary. I hope you're enjoying it!
10:58 am
I am loving Swann's Way and am about halfway through it. My goal is to read all seven volumes by the end of the year. Since I am not putting pressure on myself to read it all at once, I am able to enjoy the prose and relax into it.
03:02 pm
Good morning all. I too started reading very early and love to do so. I preferred reading to playing outside often - could be I wasnāt sports coordinated!
10:26 am

11:46 am
Good day, Adagians! Since today is Reading Day, I will have to consciously make some time to read today. I don't do it enough any more as I'm often distracted by, well, life.
11:00 am
Reading with your child counts too!
02:51 pm
Ah, one of my favs.
11:06 am
Long day today. Turns out any caffeine at all triggers a hot flash. So I already couldn't have most tea but now I can't even cheat my kidneys a little. I'm seeing my doctor later today to see if something can be done about my hormones going wacky now that I'm 40.
11:24 am
I feel ya. I have to plan very carefully what tea to have, and at what time of day, so it won't trigger me too badly. It's an instant trigger for my hot flashes, mostly due to my liver issues.
12:11 pm
I have been getting Biote pellets implanted for the last 3 years. I used to have the worst hot flashes before I started. https://biote.com/
12:43 pm
Been struggling to keep up with my library loans this month and these fires are so disruptive to regular life. Iāll be taking several timeouts for tea and reading my kindle today. The back of my kindle is in my photo today because I love seeing other peopleās. My favorite sticker on mine is the dumpster fire that says āThis little light of mine, Iām gonna let it shineā it makes me smile every time
11:38 am
Good morning! I didnāt know today was reading day! I love to read and have more books than I can keep up with
12:11 pm
Good morning CT. I too love reading, and have books scattered throughout the house. I'm more of a book in hand girl, than an e-reader, because when I listen to books I get distracted too often and have to rewind/repeat sections.
12:14 pm
Michele, I love physical books more than anything too. I don't get the same pleasure out of audio books or even books on a tablet. I am into the tactile enjoyment of reading.
03:05 pm
Good morning, dear friends. I hope that the harsh weather in the eastern part of the United States has eased up some for those of you who have been dealing with single digit and sub-zero temps. I really donāt think I could survive in those conditions. I hope that you are keeping warm with plenty of great Adagio tea. I donāt have todayās tea so this morning just might be a Brigadoon day. Keep your kettle on and your cup full, and be careful if you have to venture out of your home. š¤

If you do life in such a place, then after a while, you become accustomed to the fact that your winters may be miserable and even brutal on occasion. You also end up with many past storms and winters to compare. You might not like it, but you'll sound like an old timer... "I remember that ice storm we had in 2009 when we were lucky we had a fireplace because there was no electricity and no heat. Remember that sauce pot that Mom burned in the fireplace?" <Those kinds of stories. ;)

My mom and I just returned from the hospital around 3pm after making the trip to the city at 6am. The test results aren't in but the doctors drained fluid from my dad's lungs today and discovered cancer in the process. They took multiple samples for biopsy. Apparently it looks like small cell which is an aggressive cancer. I don't want to bring up painful memories for anyone who's dealt with the disease, but right now I have to tell someone. My mom's going to break the news to our immediate and extended family shortly. I think I'll be crying often over the next months. :'( </3

I'm so sorry to hear this, Angel. I will put your dad and your entire family in my personal prayer request book, and if you' have any specific prayer intentions regarding this, or anything else, please feel free to let me know privately with as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable disclosing. One thing my mom has been doing do herself this year is planning vacation trips to places she loves or has always wanted to go. And she wants a travel buddy (twist my arm!). Today she decided to plan a trip to Charleston, which is a place she loves. BUT since Iām going with her, she agreed we can totes go check out the Charleston Tea Garden and Iām excited!
08:33 pm
That sounds like a great idea, Elizabeth! Lucky you to have your arm twisted to be invited to be a travel buddy for those adventures.
