María Lorena Ramírez is from Mexico's Tarahumara Indigenous community. At the age of 22 she started running marathons and then Ultra marathons. She runs in her regular wear of sandals and a skirt. When large shoe companies offered to sponsor her, she declined, saying that those shoes seemed to slow down her competition. In her village, she runs with the goats and cattle, which has trained her to win the races.
