The most convenient teapot you will find anywhere - we guarantee it. When the tea is ready, simply place it atop your cup. This will cause a valve at the bottom to release: crystal-clear tea flows down, while the mesh filter retains all the leaves with one of the best infusers on the market. Super easy to clean and dishwasher safe. You will wonder how you got along without one. 16oz. Made in Taiwan with Tritan, a plastic specially-formulated to be safe in hot-temperature applications and is 100% BPA-free. The filter basket is stainless steel.

I brewed some chai in mine and now the silicone (I think?) valve bits smell of cinnamon and ginger, which can bleed into other teas I try to brew. Normal cleaning (warm, soapy water) isn't really helping. Help?

We recommend trying vinegar soaked overnight, or using a dishwasher if possible.
on
I also use denture cleaner tablets, I just disassemble the whole thing and put them in a pot of hot water then let it sit overnight. Just rinse it thoroughly in the morning it should get all the oils from the tea out of the silicone.
on
I hit my unit with a 20% bleach / warm water solution every few months or so. Then of course rinse really well. It takes all the stains out and the unit looks new afterwards.
on
Have you remembered to let soapy water run through the mechanism?
on
Try baking soda soak.
on
I've been using (and wearing out) these infusers for years and I agree with Jane Rhodes-Williams. Completely disassemble, immerse in medium hot water stirring occasionally and letting soak overnight. Thoroughly rinse then thoroughly rinse again.
on
Honestly, given that I have to replace this every so often, I've just taken to having one for 'plain' teas and another for 'flavored' teas. That seems to do the trick.
on
What iSnest way to clean Ingenuotea?
on

I accidentally left wet leaves in the base and now the strainer is a little moldy. Hours do I clean it? Am I just resigned to buying a whole new item since I can't get a replacement filter?

on
In a separate answer, I saw them recommend soaking in vinegar. Get as much of leaves and mold out as possible, then soak in vinegar overnight (or longer, though not by too much, I'd say). If you have one, follow up by putting it in the dishwasher. If it s

I spray my units with a bleach and water solution, let it set for about 5 mins. then add really hot tap water and let it soak. wash in top rack of dishwasher or wash by hand as usual. my units last well over a year and i use them daily. I use this proc

I was also going to suggest vinegar. Rinse the heck out of it so your tea doesn't taste like salad dressing afterward.
on
190 degree water should do the trick. Sink top hot water dispensers are perfect for this!

Can only Adagio cups be used? Is there a certain diameter a cup must be?

on
4 × View replies Hide replies
I use all different size mugs. If the mug is too wide, I just hold this over the mug, and position the bottom on part of the edge of the mug so that the tea comes out into the mug. As long as you get the bottom of the infuser to push inward, the tea comes
on
one of my friends has this and we have used other cups, we never purchased the cup adagio sells but we never had an issue. I'm not sure about the exact measurements though as it isn't mine and I don't currently have it with me to measure it.
on
its supposed to come out through the center - so no.
on
Just hold it a little above your cup (make sure to center it) and use your fingers to depress the valve. Works a charm!
on

Why don't you guys sell replacement strainers? Because after a while they get really funky...

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
But eventually there's so much tea dust stuck under the filter that you're basically blending all your teas every time. Then you have to replace. Preferred the removable filter.
on
We recently redesigned the ingenuiTEA to have a permanent stainless steel filter, which is much more durable and easier to clean than the previous plastic version.
on

Should 'per cup' loose tea measurements be doubled when making a full 16 oz Ingenuitea pot of tea?

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
Yes. Typically our measurements are 1 tsp. per 8oz of tea.
on
Yes!
on

Does the Ingenuitea require descaling like coffee appliances? If so what's the best method to use to not affect the taste of the tea?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
No. Our IngenuiTEAs do not require descaling. However, if a buildup does occur around the base, from tea leaves and whatnot, we do recommend to soak it overnight in vinegar, then wash it thoroughly. They are also dishwasher safe.
on

I just got it and I am wondering, how do you detach the bottom to get to the filter to put the tea in or do you just add it to the container and add hot water to it? This didn't come with instructions

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
You do not need to remove the filter. You can simply put your tea leaves inside and add hot water.
on

Can I buy a replacement filter?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Suzanne, The updated version of the ingenuiTEA features a permanent stainless steel filter. Unfortunately, we have run out of our supply of replacements for the old plastic version of this filter.
on

can you get a replacement lid anywhere? Think mine went into the garbage with the tea leaves

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Unfortunately, at this time we do not sell replacement lids. However, the product does work fine without the lid.
on

Do these not come with the coasters anymore? I liked having them around to catch drips.

on
5 × View replies Hide replies
I find that after I rinse it out and place it back near my kettle, there are drips from the rinsing. I just use a small tray to put it on which can also hold the measuring spoon.
on
Unfortunately the unit still drips slightly and a coaster is still very necessary. Shame you took it out. Otherwise a great product
on
Just snag a lid from a cottage cheese container that's now empty. Flip it upside down and you've got a lipped coaster. :-)
on
RE drip coaster: I'd like a classier looking drip coaster than a repurposed food lid. To each his own. There are many work arounds, for sure. Adagio, why not just give us the matching coaster? My 23-year old Ingenuity Tea pot is still functional and I
on
Good question, Jennifer! The new ingenuiTEA was designed to prevent dripping/leaking, so the previously included coaster was considered unnecessary with this updated model.
on

Can the ingenuiTea teapot be put in the microwave

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
The latest version of the ingenuiTEA cannot be put in the microwave. The filter is made of Stainless Steel, which is not microwave safe.

Iced Tea question - Wouldn't the tea become cloudy if added to ice while hot?

on
3 × View replies Hide replies
I add the hot tea to my mason jar full of ice and have not yet experienced any cloudy tea! It works out great in fact so I use my InguniTEA everyday to make both hot tea in the morning (I do not drink coffee at all!) then all day long for iced tea, then a
on
Yes, but that doesn't affect the taste of the iced tea.
on
If you pour the hot tea over ice cubes you shouldn't have a 'cloudy' problem. The hot tea will melt the ice and the ice will cool and dilute the tea slowly. I have been making iced tea like this for years and never had a clouding issue. Once the ice ha

How do I clean mine? Should I take it apart and soak them in vinegar or will soap and water work? I have 3 and they are all funky and they never came with instructions so I need help please

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
We recommend taking the lid off and using the top rack of your dishwasher, or hand washing with dish-soap and hot water.
on
I use a tad bit of bleach with water every once in a great while. But mine is the older version (in its 16th year) with the plastic strainer. Otherwise, a daily rinse after use is all it needs!
on

Do you add hot water or does water get hot in it

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
You add hot water to it. All this does is strain the leaves from the tea when it's finished steeping.
on

Is it OK to pour boiling water directly from the kettle into the ingenuiTEA?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hey Elizabeth! It sure is! The material is specifically designed to handle hot temperatures.
on

Before I purchase one I would like to know if it comes apart for cleaning. I purchased one similar from a company who no longer is in business. I love it but am looking for a new one. Please advise.

on

Helen, the lid is removable, but all of the other components are permanent. Hope this helps.
on

No directions for operation included. How do I open it to put tea in?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
The top flips open by pressing on the tab by the handle. Add the tea, and then pour in the water.
on

How do I clean the loose tea after brewing?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
you can tip the spent tea leaves out into the trash or compost, and then rinse the unit.
on

Just rec'd mine. Where do you put tea? Does bottom come off?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Place loose tea right inside and then add hot water. When it is steeped, place it on top of your cup to serve.
on

I have this product and it works ok to brew the tea, but once I release the tea into the cup, the last bits of liquid always leak out the bottom. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

on
3 × View replies Hide replies
Hey Jennifer, try just giving it a little gentle shake, sometimes an air bubble can keep the last bit from coming out.
on
The older version came with a coaster for this. They seem to think they've foolproofed it now, but if yours still leaks a bit, just repurpose the lid of an empty cottage cheese container (or similar sized). Also, if tea liquid is stuck in the spot between
on
Also, if tea liquid is stuck in the spot between the strainer and the release valve, there may be leaves stuck on the little air vent at the center of the strainer (creating a vacuum). Just shove the leaves aside and it should work.
on

Are there directions for this? Mine didnt come with any.

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
Given the sheer volume of requests for instructions, it might not be a bad idea to draw a sheet up and start including it in the box.
on
There is a video at the top of this page which shows you! Put loose tea inside, add water, steep, and then place on top of your cup to serve.
on

How does this work for tea with tiny particles? I have a few cheap tea infusers that the small pieces of tea, especially rooibos, just float straight out of the holes into my mug. Want to make sure this won't happen with this.

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
This will not happen screen is very fine. I have never had anything slip through
on
tea will swell when hit with hot water. I have dumped tea bag contents into mine with no issue.

How long for an order to arrive?

Can I still get the older Ingenuitea that can be microwaved? It's so much more convenient to do everything in one container. BTW - loved mine!!

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Unless you find one used, it doesn't look like it. As an alternative to microwaving, I use a Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser. They are inexpensive, fast and easy to use. I've been giving them as wedding gifts for years. I always found microwaving
on

can you use it for coffee too?

on
2 × View replies Hide replies
Hello Mythara! We have not tried it, but we don't see why not. It may just be hard to go to back tea once coffee is brewed, as it could leave an aftertaste.
on
Ooh yuck! That will surely stink it up for life!
on

Do you still sell replacement filters for the 16 oz steepers?

on
1 × View reply Hide reply
Hello David! IngenuiTEA has a permanent filter that should not be removed or replaced. If you have an ingenuiTEA 2 model, then replacement filters are available on that product page.

What size diameter cup will this work on. My cups are between 3 and 3 1/4 in.

How to clean the tea stains for the plastic cup?

Hello Lynn! Top-rack in the dishwaster is a great way to clean the ingenuiTEA.

Fill your tea brewer with 16 ounces hot water (tap or kettle), then add 1 tbsp of bleach and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse it really well afterward. Stains gone!

Hello Nadine. This version does not, but our ingenuiTEA 2 does!

The older model did. Just repurpose a lid from an empty cottage cheese container (or similar sized to fit the tea brewer without depressing the release valve). You now have a coaster that's actually deeper than the original!

I have an older version.. and would like to purchase a new filter, is that possible? this is the 3rd ingenuitea teapot I have had... but this filter is just needing a replacement.???

Hello Joan! This unit is not designed for the filter to be removed, but the replacement filters from version 2 would fit in this original model.

How do you remove the filter? I'm loving it, gifted to me, I just shake the whole carafe out, but sometimes bits get stuck...
