I brewed some chai in mine and now the silicone (I think?) valve bits smell of cinnamon and ginger, which can bleed into other teas I try to brew. Normal cleaning (warm, soapy water) isn't really helping. Help?

We recommend trying vinegar soaked overnight, or using a dishwasher if possible.

I also use denture cleaner tablets, I just disassemble the whole thing and put them in a pot of hot water then let it sit overnight. Just rinse it thoroughly in the morning it should get all the oils from the tea out of the silicone.

I hit my unit with a 20% bleach / warm water solution every few months or so. Then of course rinse really well. It takes all the stains out and the unit looks new afterwards.

Have you remembered to let soapy water run through the mechanism?

Try baking soda soak.

I've been using (and wearing out) these infusers for years and I agree with Jane Rhodes-Williams. Completely disassemble, immerse in medium hot water stirring occasionally and letting soak overnight. Thoroughly rinse then thoroughly rinse again.

Honestly, given that I have to replace this every so often, I've just taken to having one for 'plain' teas and another for 'flavored' teas. That seems to do the trick.
